The interviewer was fantastic. Did his research, asked great questions and clearly approached it as someone with a ton of respect for the process & for Jan. Awesome stuff.

Agreed, I was expecting the most generic "SO HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HAVE A HIT SONG?" kind of questions that local TV news usually asks. This was so, so much better than that.
@davidozolin80022 жыл бұрын
Steve Raible was an amazing television host. He is actually an ex-Seahawk (NFL football player) who had a great career as a local newscaster here. I’ve traveled all over the US and I feel our local news media here tends to be a cut above most major markets.

Seriously? He got his first big break with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, not Miami Vice, and his musical background and experience go way, way beyond what’s presented here. They present him mainly as a pop composer when he’s really much, much more

I heard that when asked " Who was his favourite guitar player", Jeff Beck answered; Jan Hammer. He's without a doubt the most guitaristic of keyboard players/soloists.

This is the first Jan Hammer interview I've found on KZbin, so I'm thankful for that. Would be nice to find one where the focus of discussion is on music rather than media and technology. That would require other musicians instead of a generic TV host.

Even though this video is dated from 2018, it was probably recorded in 1992 or perhaps even 1991 because Jan is talking about Czechoslovakia splitting up And that actually happened in 1993. Czechoslovakia dissolved on January 1, 1993.

Jan Hammer did not get His big break composing the theme for that cheesy eighties t.v show miami vice . over a decade earlier His was a member of a highly successful fusion jazz and classical band called the Mahavishnu Orchestra. that was world renowned .
@chizmo72 жыл бұрын
I absolutely love Jan. One of my musical heroes! But Edgar Winter was the first high profile person to use a strap-on keyboard (ARP 2600). And Moog introduced the liberation before Jan had his custom keyboard built. Also, his first big break was playing with the mahavishnu orchestra.
@hubbsllc Жыл бұрын
If you’re not right about Winter, you’re certainly close; I think Gary Wright would have been next. But the line in the intro was incorrect in that it said specifically that he was the first to use the Probe when that actually would have been the Probe’s creator Roger Powell who would have laid claim to that while with Utopia. Furthermore, what the video shows is Hammer not playing a Probe but the Jan Hammer Signature Edition Lync controller, which as far as I know was far and away the best strap-on keyboard controller in regular production that anybody ever made.

And I'd like to buy a meal for that family friend who convinced Jan into developing his music! Now if he could talk to Robert Schneider of Apples in Stereo and convince him to get away from mathematics and go back to his music, well that would be great.
