If you are thinking of going stage three here is something you should know: These engines max out at 420 ft/lbs of torque at the wheels, any more than that and you are running a real risk of blowing the engine. That said with upgraded valve springs and retainers (APR sells them for like $700 USD, they can be done with the engine in the car and without removing the head) this engine can safely rev to 7,500 RPM. 420 ft/lbs @ 7,500 RPM = 600 HP. That means with a mostly stock motor you can safely run up to 600 WHP so long as you carefully tune to make sure at no point in the power band you are exceeding 420 WTQ. All you need to do this is an intake, intercooler, charge pipes, downpipe, fueling, turbo, DSG tune (or clutch for the 6MT cars) and a pro tune. There are a number of people currently running 600 WHP on stock motors (+ springs and retainers), so far so good it seems.

Totally agree, I had the A45 AMG before I bought my R. The AMG was great to a point but terrible gearbox, terrible throttle (even with an override) and not liveable daily. Bought the R and so far stage1, miltek exhaust, cold air intake and full bore turbo inlet. The R kills the AMG. All round winner car compared to it. So much fun. 034 rear swaybar has transformed it in corners and then you put it in Eco and pootle about like miss daisy! Awesome cars.

@eKoMarine76 жыл бұрын
@@danhall5761 10 hp difference maybe, you can get a catted downpipe with all other exhaust components stock, and it will still be a sleeper.
@MrVara4116 жыл бұрын
@@danhall5761 Of course, Dan, which is why I chose the word "obnoxious" ... you can definitely upgrade the exhaust to improve air exit without making it sound like someone is blowing raspberries... something like a resonated valved Milltek sport exhaust, for example.

I agree! Never advertise!
@blower16 жыл бұрын
On a Golf R, or GTI, a catback gives you nothing power wise, i mean absolutely nothing - all the way up to 500bhp+. All the noise on this comes from lack of a resonator - which also gives you nothing. All of the power gain from an exhaust 'mod' is in having a decat or sports cat. Catbacks are just for show or noise, unresonated of course is purely just for noise.
@brandodurham6 жыл бұрын
Finally bit the bullet and went full apr stage 2 yesterday. Was previously stock with jb4. It’s honestly not a whole lot faster, but way smoother and more useable/consistent power, and better noises 😀

I have a stage 1 custom tuned S3 Facelift running almost 400hp and the way I've pulled on various A45s is just mental, definitely underrated from factory (mine did 326hp stock on Dyno!)
