Welcome to our first-time watching as we react to Furiosa (2024). This action/adventure flick delivered an experience that is definitely not what we were expecting but a pleasant surprise nonetheless.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a 2024 Australian post-apocalyptic action film directed and produced by George Miller, who wrote the screenplay with Nico Lathouris. It is the fifth installment in the Mad Max franchise, serving as both a prequel and spin-off to Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), and focuses on the Fury Road character Imperator Furiosa. The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Alyla Browne as younger versions of Furiosa (originally portrayed by Charlize Theron), alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke.
We hope you enjoy our reactions and commentary as we delve into the film's impact on action cinema. From the fast cutting that gives you a ferocious pace to the stunning practical effects that bring the dystopian world to life. This movie has both adrenaline-pumping scenes and underlying themes of revenge, hope and freedom. All this combined has made Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga a modern classic that is the perfect companion to Mad Max: Fury Road.

I'm curious because I don't want to accuse you of anything. Did you see the new Mad Max movie in a theater or online? If you watched it online, that would support the argument that the movie didn't do as well at the box office as it could have because people aren't going to see movies in theaters anymore. Box office success isn't everything, especially for a film like Mad Max, but it would have been nice to see this movie do better. It's a great film, and I think it deserves to be seen in a theater. I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way. What are your thoughts?

I'll NEVER underatand the people who find this movie boring. It starts with a bang and the fury road sequence is f'n spectacular. Is it slow burn, yeah, but there's not even a hint of boredom. Not even a spec. The story and script are simplistic but also beautiful. The cinematography and score and acting...top notch. An amazing theater experience. Nope. We will never get another Mad Max movie from Miller. Ever. By the time the dust has settled on this monumental box-office bomb the man will be too old. What we probably WILL get is a quickly made cash grab of a remake/re-imagining/reboot/bowel movement from NetFlix or Amazon, made by a TikTok "director" who swears (s)he want to "honour the original." Barf.

Nice reaction! Furiosa was amazing! “Is this Halvalla? Am I in Valhalla?” “We’re looking for a place of abundance.” “What’s abundance?”🤣😂😆 The low-key humor in this was great. Furiosa turned out to be such a freaking good backstory for her. The creativity was amazing. Any time George Miller & Crew transport you to the world of the Mad Max’s Wateland it’s a special treat. Miller is the Picasso of post-apocalyptic action movies. Fury Road is one of the greatest movies ever made & while Furiosa is a continuation, it’s own movie. All the haters who said the trailer looked too oversaturated with too much cgi can eat poop - it looked incredible. While you can say it’s not as good as Fury, Furiosa is great in its own right. It’s not in the same stratosphere & that’s fine. You can’t make Fury Road again & directors rarely make a follow up that matches its predecessor or as good a sequel as Furiosa was. Comparing it to Fury Road isn’t really apt or fair despite the connections. The Furiosa naysayers & critics are myopic & can go to Hell. Furiosa is amazing. The fact that it’s similar to Fury Road in the look & backdrop yet is so different in its format, style, story telling, character use, etc really shows how creative George Miller is. It’s changes really help make this feel different & so enjoyable. I freaking loved it. By the way I just recently discovered your channel. I usually listen to my NY Mets game, ambient music or movie reaction vids while I’m studying for my IT certs. So I was watching & listening to yours as it was in my feed today. So I’m listening to your voice & was thinking why does it sound familiar? And why does he look familiar? Then it dawned on me, but I presume that I am not the first to say this: you kind of look & sound like Krazy-8 from Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul. Not an exact facsimile but similar looking. Yo voice, intonations & speaking idiosyncrasies are very similar though: more so than compared to your looks. I think that’s a compliment😆🎉

About the black car she drove: furiosa turned on the supercharger (kinda like turbo but driven mechanically by engine belt) via switch on the dashboard, which I think is a reference to Max's car ("interceptor") that also had a supercharger, which is turned on by pulling the switch on the shifter. The latter feature is seen in her war rig back from fury road, which is itself a reference or callback to the interceptor's

Best movie of the year by far (yes, counting Dune). What an absolute masterpiece. Brilliant character writing, incredible use of color and symbolism. It's a shame it flopped at the box office, and I have my theory of it. 1. Disney burned people on female led action movies in established franchises. They released too much crap, and it hurt the market for everyone else. 2. Recasting the lead. Charlize Theron was incredible. Recasting her was a poor choice. 3. Bad promotion. Badly cut trailers that showcased the few CGI shots. 4. Bad, unmarketable title. None of this is the film's fault.

What a weird movie, it felt so different from Fury Road because of its pacing but also completely of a piece with it. I almost like it more because you can sit with the characters a bit longer, and of course Hemsworth’s performance as the various Dementus was an absolute pleasure. Fury road was a 10 for me while this was a 7. Was a good movie just sucks that more people didn't go out to see it and now we might not get another Mad Max. People didn't go out to see this one because they wanted to see Mad max, I remember being so hyped for a sequel and then once they said this movie was a prequel & not having Charlize Theron come back then it killed all the hype for me. Even watching the trailer to this movie didn't get me hype and I was going to just wait to watch it but then ended up just going to see it at the movies which i'm glad I did. Waiting almost 10 years for a Mad Max sequel just to get a prequel, I can see why it rubbed people the wrong way. Honestly they should of did this prequel LAST. They could of easily did 2 movies showing what happened after fury road. One movie showing Max's journey and then another showing Furiosa journey, then they could of put out this one. They really dropped the ball in releasing this one first even though it's a good movie but money talks and if enough people don't go to see it then it will get scrapped. Same exact thing happened to DREDD with nobody going to see it but people loving it once it hit Dvd

This movie was everything I hoped it would be - and so much more. I was blown away by the epic scope of it. I have never been so devastated to learn that a movie which absolutely deserved to be huge did not do well at the box office. The first three Mad Max movies were good, not incredible, but good solid films. Fury Road blew absolutely everything so far out of the water it drained the ocean. There is no way to top it. Furiosa is just as good as Fury Road, but in a very different way, and that just reinforces how good it is. Now I'm just hoping the idiot studio execs don't decide there's no appetite for more of this incredible world.

I saw this opening weekend, and honestly I was shocked that the theater was almost empty. I thought this was a pretty solid and entertaining movie, I would have thought that this would have had more success at the box office. It wasn't until after I saw it I started to see the internet culture war hate machine dig into this for being "woke" or whatnot. I'm sick and tired of it. I just don't care to hear it anymore. Either watch it or don't watch it and move on. No need to get so angry and worked up about something so insignificant as a Mad Max spinoff movie, or a Star Wars TV show, or whatever the next thing is going to be. In my opinion all that does is to boycott the product in a way. It's quite frankly a damn shame, this movie didn't deserve it. But I also think Warner Bros. shares some of the blame for it's failure at the box office, mainly for deciding to release the new Dune movie and this on streaming 1 month after it's theater run. I think that conditioned some people to not even bother if it's going to be available so soon. At least wait a few months, like they used to.

While I liked Furiosa, which was a great story and action was absolutely amazing in a way only Miller could bring to the big screen, I felt it was a movie that wasn't needed right now and would have preferred a Mad Max movie, especially with the epic ending to Fury Road with Max disappearing into the crowd, it made me wanting more of Max's story like the original trilogy. I liked the fact Hemsworth was casted as the villain, being Australian and growing up with the original Mad Max's, but I particularly didn't like the delivery of his character and the design compared to Toecutter and Mr. Humungus whom were a lot more menacing IMO. I just couldn't get over how Dementus felt more like an LOTR character....maybe it was just me. Overall, I would say it was on par with Beyond Thunderdome. Really hope WB greenlights Wasteland. Max Rockatansky's story needs closure. The question is @TheMediaKnights is when are we going to get reaction reviews for the original trilogy? 😂

I really enjoyed this movie, but I can see why some people can be disappointed with it. In my opinion I believe it's because of Miller's past experience with Fury Road and how bad it was that he decided to cut corners. You can read about it in Blood, Sweat, and Chrome. It's kinda a Lucas effect.

I also like to think he was "white dementus" sort of half mad cult like figure of what he calls his Congress of Destruction with various minor gang leaders (governors) (octoboss and those other characters we see recurring close to him) operating within his overarching structure, in his own "demented way" - then he transitioned into Red Warlord Dementus on his 3 bike chariot (Is this when he twists his beard into two long forks?), who first fails at the citadel from his hubris, but adapts and overcomes, and after taking gas town and negotiating, he in his own mind becomes The Great (black) Dementus, Ruler of Bikerdom, lord guardian of Gastown, which slowly wears him down and shows his internal problems with how he rules as years has passed, mortifiers "going rogue", as Furiosa grows up, and we then see him as fully "dark Dementus" ontop of his 6 wheel monster truck in the marching band uniform of his predecessor and the cloak mostly black from the oil residue...

I think what a lot of people miss in some of the clips and trailers, is that this movie is FAR more ambitious with its set design and the scale of its stunts. So naturally a lot more of it just simply isn't practical to do...practically. And I think that's perfectly fine. I love that you guys realized and appreciated all of the creative camera work that was done to maybe cover up and rationalize the lack of practical shots. Where Fury Road had frantic single shots that kept the action moving, Furiosa instead chose to stay in that shot for seconds, sometimes minutes. Fury Road is a movie that should never have been made realistically, and I don't think George Miller felt it realistic to expect to put a production crew through that kind of movie again. Regardless I think Furiosa is a movie that in some ways even exceeds Fury Road, despite not being as meticulously crafted. Great reaction, and so glad you guys loved and appreciated what this movie excelled at.

If you check the trivia section of Mad Max's IMDB page, you also find information there about it having grossed 100m worldwide.
