Holly's line "It's the 90s" and the sentiment that is echoed throughout, became something of a meme in the days before social media, and still sometimes heard today. Whenever someone is surprised by new technology, I always like to say "Hey, it's the 90s!", or even "Wake up and smell the 90s" for added comic effect. People who get the reference are dwindling in number though. 😅

@@OfficialMediaKnights Another thing about the action movies of the 90's, I say that because they called attention to the brutal deaths, and I think that happened because of the influence of director Paul Verhoeven, he is not the director of Die Hard 2, but Robocop and Total Recall, but his influence was noticed in the early 90's in other directors of action movies, you will notice how the movies of that time were very violent too, besides Die Hard 2, like Predator 2, Robocop 2, Cliffhanger, The Rock, have explicitly violent scenes, and it was rare in big studio movies, then a few years later they were lowering the level of violence, so that the films were more suitable for all audiences, otherwise money was lost if they were banned for over 16 or 18 years.

Little to like about the guy, which is the point. It’s all up to personal interpretation and connection to the subject matter. I follow TMK because I resonate with and appreciate the way they “see” the films they watch. They see things well beyond surface level. They truly seek to understand what they’re watching, and if you pay attention, you see very little (if any) negativity coming from them. 🎄🎄🎄🎄⛔️ *DIE HARD HAS ALWAYS BEEN AND WILL ALWAYS BE A CHRISTMAS MOVIE* ⛔️🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄 I don’t know why the Gen Zers are confused, but for those of us that actually watched these movies in theaters and on VHS can tell you DIE HARD is a Christmas Movie, especially the first one. Merry Christmas everybody. Yipee Kiaay.

William Sadler (Col. Stuart) went from being a ruthless Colonel in this film to picking up petrified horse s@#$ in The Shawshank Redemption. And did both well.

This was the best reaction, mainly because I've never watched it with someone translating the german in real time, it's a nice addition lol thank you Denise 😎

13:45 You might not have gotten this, but when he says "Just the fax, ma'am", it was a reference to the 1960's tv cop show "Dragnet". The main character, Detective/Sgt. Joe Friday, was known for saying variations of the phrase "Just the facts, ma'am/sir" when a witness would ramble irrelevant information or opinions. The phrase made its way into pop culture and parody.

Die Hard 3 is well worth a watch, imo. A slightly different twist on the formula, but still worked great. Plus, any movie with Samuel L Jackson is usually a winner. lol The sequels after that went a bit downhill, imo. Die Hard 4.0 was so over-the-top in parts, it got a bit silly, but it's watchable. I can barely remember Die Hard 5 (A Good Day to Die Hard). It was weird. Very sad to see the decline of Bruce Willis' health in recent months. :( What an amazing number of great movies he's done.

William Sadler plays the main villain and is a fabulous character actor. One of my favorite performances is "Tales From the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight". You guys should check that one out, with hum, a young Jada Pinkett and Billy Zane. Great horror comedy!

The only thing I didn't like about this movie was the use of blue and red tape on the ammo cartridges, I thought it was too obvious from the get-go.

*Artistic license, firearm operation:* If you fire blank rounds out of a fully automatic or semi-automatic weapon without a blank adaptor, you have to manually recycle each time you fire. Because without a bullet traveling down the barrel, all the gas is ejected through the muzzle, none will go through the gas tube to push the bolt back automatically. So when all the characters were rock and rolling with their submachine guns, that was pure Hollywood. If it was real, they would have had to pull back the charging handle manually each time a round was fired. (Either that, or have blank adaptors on their muzzles, but then there would be no way they could convince anybody they were firing live rounds!)

These are the movies that I think put Bruce Willis on par with all the other action stars of that era like VanDamme, Arnold, and Stallone... But the thing that sets John McClane apart is the fact that he's not some hulking figure, killer soldier, or martial arts expert. He's a just regular guy which makes him feel much more relatable and real, and the fact that he has those moments where he's thinking out loud and talking to himself just makes it better.

For most of you who have never used a fax machine, he took the fingerprints without a hard surface under the paper then faxed it to Al in L.A. At best, it would be a page with black circles on it, not clear enough to ID the guy.

When I got this movie on VHS, I watched it over and over. At first, I was disappointed McTiernan didn't return as the director here, but Renny Harlin did a great job, as well as in 'Cliffhanger'.

The actor of Col. Stuart always reminds me of one of the inmates in the, in my opinion, best movie ever made, Shawshank Redemption. When they tarred the roof and he wanted to give Andy a beer... timeless classic and indeed a beautiful movie.
@SimoExMachina211 ай бұрын
This movie was directed by the Finnish native Renny Harlin. He does not get the enough credit for his talents, but he was always the to-go-to-guy when a shitty script needed to be lifted from absolute disaster to atleast somewhat succesful flick with plus signed box office.

"Just the Fax maam Just the Fax" LOL that is a play on a famous line from a 50's/60's TV series called Dragnet , the stoic police investigator was always saying this to women who wanted to offer way more info than he needed. Jack Webb was the actor.
@tazjammer11 ай бұрын
Bruce saying "Just the facts maam" was a tip for Jack Webb in Dragnet. A very good old TV show.

The scene of the fight at the airport in the snow was filmed across the street from my alternative high school in Central Washington. And yes, it was really snowing then. The day before we saw the crew set up for the night shoots. Faculty wouldn't let us go across to get a good shot of anyone famous, so we just watched from our building.
@jeffburnham661111 ай бұрын
To make a point, John often seems to get no cooperation because of jurisdictional differences. In the first one he was a cp from NY in LA, and in this one it's reversed (which makes no sense for Holly to be flying in to see him in NY if he was an LAPD cop), plus you have Airport Police plus the FAA, and the military involved. John has no authority or input in the matter, so the remarks about no civilians in the tower would be realistic. Most people don't notice the blue and red tape around the magazines. Die Hard was a Christmas movie because it takes place at an office Christmas party.

Darker, more violent and more crazier than the first film, and that's what makes it a lot of fun! John McTiernan, did not return to direct the sequel, as he was too busy working on THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. Renny Harlin, Director of A Nightmare On Elm Street 4, was hired after producers were impressed by the movie. Harlin would direct another Christmas action adventure film, THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT, starring Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson.
