Denzel killed this part as the lawyer, but one also has to respect the level of dedication Tom Hanks put into this part. He looked so thin, so grey, like patients suffering from terminal illneses do. It's so heartbreaking.

When this movie came out, my best friend ever in life had just passed from AIDS. Early on, this discrimination was real. Sitting through this movie in a theatre nearly destroyed me but it was, and still is, the gut-wrenching truth about how people with AIDS were treated in the 1980s.

People were deliberately programmed that way by the system. So much is orchestrated in this world, because Fear is an energy of value to those that consume it as food. Once you realise this, you see a recurring pattern over the years, where an alleged threat is thrust into prominence, and various highly profitable solutions - usually involving some more loss of real freedom - are dangled like a carrot, while the stick may or may not be visible. It is a "game" they play, and which Humanity allows to continue, because to begin to consider what could be behind such deliberate cruelty is beyond the courage of most people. Yet over recent years, thery are showing us Who They Really Are - and some people - not enough yet - are Waking Up. To Wake Up is to Walk The Path of Evolution, address fears one by one, and become more loving, while living in a primitive fear-based world. (C) Zen 21:56 24 MAY 2024 / Thanks for sparking some creative writing! I hope that in the meantime you have found meaning. Best wishes, Zen /

At the beginning of the film they had the one guy in the firm seeing spots resembling lesions on his face. The next act features a case including paperwork that mysteriously disappears for almost 24 hours, only to come back up in the last hour unexplained miraculously. Beckett was an exceptional lawyer which is why they promoted him. So why would they fire him so suddenly for an unexplained mistake after seemingly getting along with all of the partners so well in addition to his skill? This clip also hints fairly strongly at this being the reason with the partner stating that “Andy kept bending the rules” referring to the “OLD and new Testament”: old almost certainly referring to Leviticus, where there is a passage stating a man shall not lie with another man. Also, a senior lawyer quoting the Bible as the rule book on the law? Filled with contradictions

He knew what Denziel was trying to get at and allowed him to do so. The judge was aware of what probably needed to happen in this lawsuit and wasn't going to hamstring the plaintiff for decorum sake. Good judges are like that, they know and realize when an attorney is going down a path asking particular questions and allow things that normally wouldn't be allowed, and know when to reign in attorneys that ramble and do nothing but commit character assassination. Unfortunately, the latter is running rampant in the US justice system since judges allow DAs to get convictions on character assassination alone instead of presenting a case of the crime committed.

Truly wonderful Movie! I was watching it just last night on Great movies !! Fabulous performances all-round, particularly from Hanks and Washington !! Very moving and profound movie, I think. Great Springsteen tack! Very moving Paul young song towards the end of the movie at the wake, after the funeral. 😥

The judge, with those glasses, looks like a hardened cop. The kind that is either ruthless ,streetwise and sharp or corrupt. Eitherway😂

This scene always has me crying on the one hand, and it pisses me off on the other. Crying because of all the stuff he had to go to, but pissed because his former employers lack of compassion. When the guy says “He asked it.”, it showed their lack of empathy and reminded me of when people I knew were so homophobic that they couldn’t one ounce of empathy. Still one of my favorites.

It's a movie I've seen only twice. My uncle died of AIDS in 1992, it's too raw even now for me to sit and watch. I'll probably watch it one more time in the near future.

But even still the entire time you can tell she’s talking through her teeth. There’s an uneasy and uncomfortable feeling when she talks and at first you think it’s just cause she’s being this annoying bitchy character, but when she mutters “I hate this case” you realize it’s just cause she at no point in this trial believes what she’s saying, she just has no choice but to say itb

This clip has so many outstanding actors, in addition to Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks, even the jury had three actors who went on to be exceptional actors themselves. Yes, go back and look, there are three members of the jury, who are not A-List actors, but they are recognizable and known for their art.

I adore this film, I often take midnight walks up to the local petrol station, have a chat with the bloke working there and he gives me a fag (cigarette for non-UK people), tell him my troubles and we check in with each other, all to Bruce Springsteen's moving music from this film. Denzel & Tom smash it in this film.
