Random trivia: 1. This was Martin Wildauer's only time participating in ESM, and he pulled the Austrian deadlift record quite comfortably! 2. 5/10 athletes ended up withdrawing due to injury. 3. Vytautas Lalas injures his hamstring on the deadlift. He wouldn't compete again for almost 2 years (~19 months) after this. 4. Laurence Shahlaei has his legendary lat tear (often cited as one of the gnarliest strongman injuries of all time) attempting a PR deadlift of 446 kilograms. Competes again in about 6-7 months in the 2015 World's Strongest Man. 5. Eddie Hall injures himself on the deadlift. He takes 3 months to recover, and ends up tying on points for a 1st place finish with Hafthor in his very next competition (2014 SCL World Finals). 6. Mikhail Koklyaev injures himself on the deadlift and would never compete again in strongman. 7. Martin Wildauer tweaks something on the Atlas stones and withdraws from the competition, but competes again in less than 3 weeks time in the 2014 SCL Hungary. 8. Eddie Hall fails a 435 kg deadlift, but somehow manages to lift it again AND hold it for a solid 25 seconds while giving an interview. This was the British record at the time. 9. Laurence Shahlaei (the previous British record holder) ties Eddie's lift to tie the national record for a very short while, as Eddie would again improve it with a 446 kg world record moments later. 10. Brian Shaw had held the strongman deadlift record since the 24th of August, 2013 with a 442.5 kg deadlift, which was done without a deadlift suit. Brian's record was improved upon by Benni Magnusson with a 445 kg suited deadlift done on the 8th of March, 2014 which was considered the world record prior to the 2014 ESM. That record would be broken by Eddie and Benni in this show. 11. This was the first time Eddie Hall held the deadlift world record -- until Benni Magnusson lifted 461 kilograms a few minutes later. A year later Eddie would hold it once again with lift of 462 kilograms done in the 2015 Arnold Expo in Australia. 12. Johannes Årsjö would set the new Swedish deadlift record with a lift of 420 kilograms. It would be beaten by Nedzmin Ambeskovic 4 years later with a lift of 422.5 kilograms done in the 2018 Sweden's Strongest Man. 13. Eddie Hall lifts 461 kilograms, but drops the bar making his lift invalid. He pulls out of the competition due to pulling some muscle during this attempt. 14. The deadlift championships pushed the record by 16 kilograms this year. 15. This was the FIFTH time Eddie and Thor competed against each other. Their first competition together was the 2012 Europe's Strongest Man. 16. Johannes Årsjö tore his pants from the crotch in the Atlas stones. Check out 33:41 in slow motion! 17. This was Thor's biggest victory at this point of his career! 18. Hafthor Björnsson's winning prize was the pickup truck he used in the loading race. 19. Mark Felix was 48 years old, not 46 as they say in the beginning. 48 years 3 months 23 days, in fact. 20. The intro says this was "Vytautas Lalas's first competition back after a 2 year injury layoff", but actually he had competed just 5 months before this in the 2014 Arnold Strongman Classic, placing 4th.

Wow, thanks for this informations 👍 maybe you know why Big Z wasn't compete there?

@@LukaszKopeiro Thanks. Good question. Just 3 months before this competition Big Z pressed a 227 kg log in the 2014 Giants Live Poland for a new world record. He won the whole show as well, as usual, but it would seem he suffered an injury in this competition, as he didn't compete for 10 whole months after. There's no official information on this, so I can't give a definitive answer, but my educated guess is that he declined his invitation due to injury.

Got another one, Eddie picked Laurence to win the Super Yoke despite the fact that Laurence had announced to the stadium that he could no longer continue with the competition due to his lat tear that you mentioned xD

Gotta love Eddie saying Laurence was going to take the Super Yoke with a time of 21 seconds not long after Laurence had just announced to the stadium that he was withdrawing from the competition. xD

Europe's Strongest Man is one of the proof how tough the strongman sport is. This kinda reminds me with the 1998 WSM finals where half of the athlete got injured and 5 athletes competing with Magnus Samuelsson won the contest

Why didn’t edd use figure of 8 straps like Benni?
@quelandil5738 Жыл бұрын
That was a simple mistake, probably never used them before. He started after, bis 500 was done with figure 8. That's where he learned it
