David Rakoff - This American Life - Invisible Made Visible

David Rakoff tells an emotional story about dance and cancer. David died three months after this performance, in August 2012.
His dance was choreographed by Monica Bill Barnes and set to Irving Berlin's "What I'll Do," performed by Nat King Cole.

So appreciate this piece. Have not found the humor in having Inclusion body Myositis. I miss dance, biking, hiking, playing the flute...being in bed at 1930 because fatigue is so crushing. After 40 yrs of being the helpful nurse am scooped into a wheelchair as my legs wobble.at 62. Instead of cross country skiing, hiking even a bit of AT or learning to paddle board, I try to be happy for raspberries and strawberries in the yard,a rescue dog who can help me up and protects me from bad people and any squirrel. This disease is making me invisible, meaningless.

@@zombi3907 thanks. Found relief of some aspects with mestinon despite no antibodies...doc calls me unique.still lonely

@@cherylcarlson3315 It's been a hard year for fixing that problem, but hopefully the future offers more opportunities for community and friendship for you. When I have felt the most alone, being generous and supportive to others has lead me to good new relationships. When I focused on what I could give in my interactions instead of what I needed, my needs got met in the end. It takes time, but it's there for you too.
