The tire carrier was clearly flopping around. The tire mount was beefy however the rack it mounted to was flimsy and will be dangerous after a couple trips off-road.

Hard not to agree with the below comments questioning the practicality of things like alloy rock sliders, although in saying this its a terrific looking result that is shown via a well put together video. Its sure to raise a few eyebrows in the school car park when picking up the kids, although in reality its not something I'd be to keen to take any further than a bit of light off road work. There really seems to be a market in Aussie now for these "American style" cosmetic builds, and each to their own I guess.
@offroadanimal5 жыл бұрын
HI mate, when you look at the alloy extrusion used for the backbone of the rock slider you can really see the thickness there. This has a much higher strength that any steel RHS section used on the market. In fact it's more than 4 times stiffer which = 4 times stronger. Engineering these days is about designing smarter, and sometimes that looks different to what people are used to
@mackjones76884 жыл бұрын
It's funny. No one really complains about aluminum ladders, or aluminum hand trucks, aluminum pipe wrenches. I don't see anyone questioning the strength of the aluminum wheels on the truck. They make steel wheels, why not run those? You know... for durability? Clearly aluminum alloy can be utilized and used hard in various applications. The Ranger is not a huge truck and it has an anemic engine in my opinion. There simply is no replacement for displacement. Still, the 4 banger it's packing has plenty of power thanks to the turbos. So why make that engine work harder than it has to by bolting on as much steel as you can like it's a tank? High quality aluminum rock rails and skid plates give you plenty of protection without tons of added weight. Corrosion wouldn't be as big of a deal either. Most of the accessories shown in this video look to me like they are ideal for dry arid conditions. Winter weather in many northern states of the USA will probably eat this truck alive. Upgrades too.

The forces generated by that heavy spare wheel and tire hanging out there must be enormous bashing around on bumpy trails, and the whole thing's just screwed into sheet metal on the bed. Scary.
@protoman12142 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I was gonna comment. I was thinking I must’ve missed where they bolted it down to a more solid part of the truck. Thats way too much weight and the fulcrum point is just thin sheet metal as you said. Very poor design.

I dont like how the spare tire moves when going off-road. There should be a more solid, less good looking way of carrying a spare tire. And it takes way too much space which should be used for a multi versatile cage or hardtop for mounting tools and gadgets

It all looks good but in reality the bed can’t hold up the weight, remember the top of bed mounted toolboxes, the bed always cracked on top! and besides all of the upgrades, these new trucks frames, body, and bed al move a lot where you drive off-road, this will not help much either, all for highway use only,
