Hey man I don't know if you're really gonna see this 3 years later but I have a 2008 forester non turbo. I saw you're video get recommended a while back and I've basically been doing most of the mods that you've been doing for these past couple months. Red rally armor flaps, hood struts (thanks for that suggestion), sway bar removal, and I'm in the middle of installing basically the same exact 2inch lift. I loved the rhino rack and awning setup you had but unfortunately I can't find them anywhere. It's kind of funny because my forester is the same color as yours so it's almost identical. Just wanted to say thank you for, not only inspiring me to become an off-road forester, but also for helping me with installing the mods.

I tried to install a 2 inch lift by myself. I put the back spacers and trailing arms spacers no problem. But when I tried doing the same on the front I simply couldn't fit the strut back in. So I pushed the axle down to get the strut to fit inside and accidentally my CV joint fell apart. It just came apart with the boot. I pushed it back in and put the stock clamp back. It lost some grease but the car drives nornaly... Am I going to need new CV axle after that or am I going to be fine ?
@ignitionoffroad50282 жыл бұрын
The front CV pops out very easily unfortunately. As long as you didn’t get any dirt in there it should be fine. Just keep an eye on that one. If it starts clicking or causes vibration at speed you’ll need a new one.

hey bro! been loving your channel lately, i got an 05 xs recently. i want to lift it. it has bc reds coilovers in it right now & i am wondering why people don’t install the lift kit on coilovers? i want to get stuck right into it but i will wait & save some more cash if it is that critical not to do this with coilovers. any advice will be greatly appreciated!
@ignitionoffroad50283 жыл бұрын
There are a few reasons not to use street coilovers for off-roading. The main one is that they provide no articulation, so you will constantly lift wheels and lose traction. This is the reason many also remove swaybars, so the wheels can drop into holes and get the absolute best traction possible. Otherwise, coilovers are shorter than stock struts so you will lose clearance and they will be super stiff and uncomfortable on the rough stuff. True offroad coilovers normally provide 2-4” of extra travel to an OEM strut and have different spring rates. If you want to do it on the cheap, get a set of OEM suspension from a wrecker and install too hat spacers on that

Hey awesome vid. Thanks. Why do you need the offset? Does it effect handling?
@ignitionoffroad50285 жыл бұрын

Sounds like your doing everything correct. Camber bolt in top hole and tab facing inward for max negative camber. My suggestion is you haven’t let the suspension settle? All my suspension is in alignment spec and the wheels have no effect on the alignment

I used the Subieliftoz lift kit because it is made local to my area, I had seen many people use the kits without fault, and they are a well designed, top quality product. If you want to use their kit, everything you need will be included. I just used the opportunity to upgrade the rest of my suspension while I was installing the lift.

Was It purposely done to not Install The King Springs for The front struts for better articulation?
@ignitionoffroad50287 жыл бұрын
King springs don't make a standard spring for the front and I have had bad experiences with raised springs.
@kiwizookoffroad20407 жыл бұрын
Yes having had a Forester with raised all around and no spacers I should have done what you have. Looks great man
@PTMG7 жыл бұрын
I was looking into doing king raised springs in the rear and normal king springs up front with no spacers. Is there any particular reason you dislike king raised springs? I would like to know more before I buy springs. I drive a 05 forester, but I am not looking for an aggressive lift, or really one at all, so I would like to avoid spacers all together. I would just like a little extra beef in the rear to counter some of the sag, since I tend to load up the back quite a lot.
@kiwizookoffroad20407 жыл бұрын
The problem is that they reduce your downtravel and cause the struts to top out, which can damage them and means you lose traction earlier offroad. They are very stiff springs. I would recommend standard height Kings in the rear and standard front springs. If you carry very heavy loads regularly then raised kings in the back (for extra sag prevention) and standard height kings front.

I have owned a forester with a raised spring lift and one with a spacer lift. Any raised spring is harsh on the strut, as it is always maxed out by the extra spring height. This is bad for the strut long term and makes for a harsh and noisey ride over bumps. Will have a video of the comparisons coming up at some stage. My suggestion is to get heavy duty standard height springs for the rear. These are stiffer so they can handle the weight better but don't compromise ride quality

Hey man I’ve watched your videos and they are pretty badass. I got a lift kit for my 05 forester xs but I’m not sure if I messed up or not. I have 2inch lift spacers with trailing arms and I got the 1” raised king springs. Do you know if that will work out alright? Should i have just got the oem Kings? I also have the KYB struts too.
@ignitionoffroad50285 жыл бұрын
If you got the raised springs front and rear, then you will have a 3' lift all round. That will be two much for the front to handle without body spacers and you should have a matching 3' rear trailing arm spacer to even out the rear alignment. I also found raised springs to be very harsh and much prefer the heavy duty standard height springs

With the difference in lift between front and back, does that cause damage due to some imbalance over time? I might be stupid, but I read that there is like a maximum of 1.5mm tolerance for difference in wear and tear of the wheels for the forester until it somehow starts damaging the 4wd, shouldnt this also cause damage then?
@ignitionoffroad50286 жыл бұрын
neuroleptika you are correct with the uneven tyre wear damaging the driveline however the suspension lift should not effect this

Hi can you just add the spaces with the standard springs and struts great vid
@ignitionoffroad50284 жыл бұрын
Yes of course. The struts and springs were only added because I was on coilovers previously and had no standard struts lying around. KYB is an OEM replacement shock anyway.

Would this kit work with a 98 impreza outback sport?
@ignitionoffroad50285 жыл бұрын
That same style kit would work but the rear top hats are different. Just buy a lift designed for your car. Theres a few different companies that make them these days so its easier buying your specific one over trying to figure out what else works.

I did the same lift but having trouble getting it aligned right. Always in the red.. what did you do for your alignment?
@ignitionoffroad50287 жыл бұрын
Front spacers have camber/caster correction built into them. Rear doesn't so I purchased whiteline camber bolts to correct the rear.

Hi, what is the thickness of the spacers under the rear lever?
@ignitionoffroad50286 жыл бұрын
hardi tack not sure what lever you are talking about but the lift kit is 3’ rear strut top spacers/3’ rear trailing arm spacers and 2.5’ front strut top spacers

@ignitionoffroad50285 жыл бұрын
NMP TV www.subieliftoz.com/lift-kits/ you can only buy 1 and 2’ lift kits off the website and everything bigger is a custom order. Just send them a message and you’ll be looked after. The car in the video is a 2003 so yes it will fit, but always order the kit designed for your car otherwise you risk it not fitting

Am I missing on something, or you didn't need to use anything to compress springs? Just few wrenches and that's all?

I did use spring compressors but I already had the struts assembled pre video. This video is about fitting the subieliftoz kit and not how to assemble a strut
