IMO just something for people to go back and forth about. 😂 I have a few 60 year old plus Victors and Blake and Lamb that will be useful for another century or more with care. Sure, they don't bed as nice as a modern day coil, but they'll still work. I'm thinking that the biggest differences are the regional regulations and the terrain and such that we have to make our sets in. No deep frozen snow and ice here, so there's no dealing with that. Just to the west it's rocky and hard to drive stakes of any kind. I'm just happy to be able to still be able to use steel traps and body grips and snares without so much interference and oversight like so many others have to put up with. Fur is worthless here, so a bunch of B.S. would discourage many here from trapping at all. Thanks for the video

I think you hit on it. I've always thought it was for non target caches like a skunk or opposums

The gap in the jaws allows the levers to come up higher, which lets the trap lock up tighter

So in your opinion which one do you prefer?

Closed jaw. Not a big deal but I don't think open jaws are as beneficial as people think they are. Yes, they may have a bit more holding power if it is a full pad catch but sometimes you only get a couple toes so they would escape the open jaw

That's right. They are footholds. Or maybe ankleholds 🤔
