I have been using Sketchup for 8 years. Watched this on a lark and learned things I never knew. I will now will watch every "Square One" video. Thanks!

This "tool by tool" overview is exactly what I need to build a foundation. Much appreciated.

Thanks again for this series of videos Aaron, It's really helping to remind me of the things Sketchup can do that I've forgotten and also showing me some new stuff I didn't know.

Hi Aaron thanks for this, the Square One series is so useful. Just to note the geometry does not have to be fully closed, the offset tool will also work with two or more connected edges but they must be coplanar.

Didn't know the part about overlap. Very useful.

Aaron, are you really favoring Tags over the Outliner? Now that 2021 has been released, I'd like to see an exploration of Outliner and Tags so I can better understand what each does and when/why I should one over the other. Great videos. Keep up the good work!

What I want to know is how do you delete the original square immediately after you offset it.

I have been using Sketchup way back when Goggle owned it and did not know you could select 2 edges and then offset them. Is it possible to offset 1 edge? I was not able to make it work. Thanks for your Skill Builders.

No... two is the minimum (I know because I tried)

this information is very hard to find in SU help. i think an outlines of these functions, with keystrokes / clicks organized like an outline would be very helpful. if this exists, please provide the link. great work!!!

Is the option to offset one or two edges a recent change?
@DirkLarien3 жыл бұрын
It is cool but in web interface it does not work. Second you switch tools to offset by click or hit "f" your selection is gone. :-(

One of the few things I dislike in SketchUp is represented when you say "the shortcut key for offset is F", lol. I need to be able to make associations in order to remember something. I know there are only so many keys on a keyboard, but a solution you guys should implement is allowing two letter shortcut commands ... Then OF could be offset ... OR could be orbit ... and all would be right in my mind ... or at least a tiny bit better 🤣

DEFAULT shortcut keys! Remember, you can change any shortcut keys to whatever keys you like!

Nope! You're in the right place if you're looking for the fundamentals of the Offset tool.

Have you done a video on using offset for extruded circle shapes and the limits there?@@SketchUp
@SketchUp9 ай бұрын
@@michaelgriffith9248You wouldnt use the Offset tool if you want to modify extruded geometry. Use Scale with modifier (to scale fm center point) instead ;)

Trying to model a round handwheel for a table saw. It has outside circular handle, three spokes and inner hub. The backside face of circular handle part is offset from frontside of the hub face by 5/8". When I modeled it flat and lifted only the outer round handwheel using the move tool, I expected it to stretch the spokes, but I lost / broke the geometry of them instead. In worked in part, but not sure what I'm doing wrong.@@SketchUp
