The ambient music around the 5 minute mark was very effective. Helps to feel the nature moments. More of that please.

1st time to watch your channel. I am a novice in deciding monohull or catamaran, how big a boat, costs etc. The part I really liked is when you showed the plotted course on the screen. Most do not do that and it's interesting and helpful. The Tug and Tow were great to learn as well. I watch: The O'Kelly's, Sailing Uma, The Wynns, Captain Q, Ruby Rose, and Zatara. So many great fun people out there on the water. Happy Trails from Florida

Always love to see you two making a passage. Do you ever raise the keel to let the algae pass under the boat? I say algae instead of weed because weed denotes something that isn't wanted. This stuff is an eco-system into itself...some of the most interesting fishing I have done is along those algae lines...tons of tiny little fish and bugs that bring the bigger fish😜btw...7:23 is the face of a man living his best life...he looks so happy!

Wondering if one should disengage the chain driven auto pilot when sailing through oceans with giant swaths of Sargasso seaweed, is that the implied lesson for the future?
@tleh12 жыл бұрын
I thought the same...
@DistantShoresTV2 жыл бұрын
I think its a good idea to disengage the autopilot regularly just to try hand-steering to see if the boat is hard to steer. We didn't know when the Sargasso hung on the rudder since there was no visible sign (unlike when the wind gusts hard and steering is hard). It was so difficult at night since we didn't see the weeds...

Nice to see #2 sailing along again. How often do you see Sargasso seaweed in the Caribbean?
@DistantShoresTV2 жыл бұрын
Yes Peter it was great to be aboard DSII again. She sails nicely! In recent years Sargasso seems to be more common. During this passage you would usually see some little bits of Sargasso floating around, then occasional large rafts as we filmed.

@@DistantShoresTV Here in Delray Beach, Sargasso is an all Summer event. Thankfully, the city mostly keeps up with the removal.

Interesting segment about the tug and tow. When I was sailing and living in St Maarten in the early '80s a friend of mine had a couple of tugs that used to haul water to St Maarten from Dominica. Do they still do that?
@DistantShoresTV2 жыл бұрын
Wow that's interesting! I do not know if they're still hauling water but it makes sense.

Why didn’t you go straight south vs along the leeward islands ?
@DistantShoresTV2 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert, It was the first passage of more than one night that Maggie had done in awhile so we cruised along the islands rather than do a straight shot to make her feel more safe and secure.

Hello, I always find it strange when some people keep the old boat name and don’t change to their own, in this case its even worse because your boat name is part of you and your identity.
@DistantShoresTV2 жыл бұрын
There are superstitions about changing the original name of the boat, Jeffery. 😊 In the case of Distant Shores II we are quite happy about the friends keeping the name since it continues to promote our TV show and the owners are good friends. ❤️

@DistantShoresTV2 жыл бұрын
It is a superstition that it is bad luck to change the original name of a boat. There are rituals you can do however if you want to change the name. 😊 We actually don't mind. The owners are good friends and it helps promote the Distant Shores TV series.
