The kid at the beginning - hanging around the opposing goalie - asking for the "PASS" made it clear to me why the rule is there. That helped a lot. The explanations people give should start with that more often. Nice one.

I like that you included the SECOND TO LAST DEFENDER rule. So many commentators doesn't know that, as well as players. There is usually a goalkeeper in net, who count as 1 defender, and then there have to be at least another of the outfield players closer to their goal. If the goalkeeper is for some reason behind the attacker, but there is an outfield player of the opposition at their goal line, the attacker will still be offside because there's ONLY ONE DEFENDER THERE!!

Why is it a foul to dodge the goalkeepee till the very last moment before shooting? I think off side thing is applicable if an attacker in present in the box , actually I remember I was called of once for standing near the second box but with no boll on foot, I as a kid only in fluke ran with the boll in the goal else most of the times I would rather take shots at the goal from distance though 😊.

2:07 would not be considered as off side on either of the attackers, any of them could of taken a fishing shot and weren't be applicable for fouling. But morally I think it's better to dodge many alone rather than dodging one or two defenders with a team of more attackers . Image

I played a game last night... and that exact scenario happened... the referee didn't call offsides because there was a defender inside the goal... but the goalkeeper wasn't behind the ball... 0:57 corner kick actually falls under your #3 point ("can't be offside when play is restarted when it has gone out of the pitch"), not under the #2 "behind the ball" point, you can obviously be in front of the ball on a corner kick since the taker can place it almost half a meter from the backline as long he places it in the quarter circle

As a beginning referee, I question the call on the clip near 1:41. It wasn't exactly a "pass" from a defending player; it was a contested ball and looked like it deflected off of the defender instead after it had been kicked by an offensive player. It looks like an incorrect call to me.

+Leo Buzalsky It is debatable, but the referee judged the player to have made a clear attempt to gain control of the ball (especially considering that the ball was moving in the opposite direction prior to his touch). I admit there are better examples to illustrate this rule (Luis Suarez goal against England in the 2014 World Cup, for instance). I'm not sure anyone would have complained if he had whistled for offside but again, this was his (controversial) interpretation.

The corner arc is 1 yard from the corner. The ball is placed anywhere within or on the arc, goal line or touchline in that corner. If as player places the ball on the farthest part of the arc, a teammate standing on the goalline is ahead of the ball and potentially ahead of the first and second defenders. But, not penalized, if the rest of law 11 and 17 are met.

I heard that the original offside rule was basically the same as in rugby, you couldn't be in front of the ball at all when it was passed, regardless of the opposing defenders. Then it was first abolished because it made it almost impossible to score goals, and later adapted to what we have today.
