I think, to this day, that early 2000s was the best era in russian culture.

Friends actually killed themselves, smoked weed and were unemployed. That's how it is. I decided a few years ago to become the master of my own destiny. Everyone is responsible for getting themselves out of their own mess. Pull yourselves together and blame YOURSELVES. You can do it.... we are all gonna make it brah, that's it.

Stay strong won't you, YT comments isn't usually the greatest place esp. when you're feeling fragile but honestly things can and will improve... I'm 40 now, was in my early 30's when I finally got that "spark" that kicks off things getting on track. Until then I'd gone from being young and hopeful in my teens/early 20s to spending about 12 years jaded and smoking a lot of heroin and crack (fear of needles saved my life there!) but things are so much better now. trust me, no matter how down you are and how bad shit gets you just never can ever know what's around the corner. Was just coming to the comments to say this tune somehow always puts me in mind of Chester Bennington, even having it all can't cure a depressive personality, but sometimes it takes very little at all to help out. hopefully this comment helps even one person to just keep on keeping on and not taking the permanent way out. Peace and love.

As kid i never understood this song however as an adult now i truly understand it now more then ever. This song will always be relevant no matter how old it is. We were once kids with dreams some of us achieved those dreams, most of us had our dreams shattered, some of us couldn't handle the pressures of reality no more, but most of us stuck with it. the cruelest dream is reality for sure.

Yeah I think most of us fell through the cracks. School just wants to to graduate, they don’t care as much if you cheat or not on tests. They just want to get themselves a good score so they can get more money. Teachers are crushed by the amount of work, student behavior, educational board requirements, im sure there’s more. Parents just want to see you succeed. But they won’t tell you how to. Or teach you how to bc that’s the “schools job” I think there is a fundamental disconnect between parents, school boards and teachers. I think it’s safe to say that Americans schools are useless when it comes to getting kids, teens and young adults ready for the “real world” It’s no wonder people fail hard after high school or college.

This song is a textbook example of good songwritting. Every 4 measures the storytelling from the lyrics goes deeper and deeper, avoids sounding redundant and keeps adding tension for the chorus to be expected and it hits just on time so the message from it hits harder each time and the melodic elements like the bass line, the guitar solos and riffs are simple and effective, very well implemented.

@@devild1986 Every song follows a formula whatsoever, but I get what you mean. Still, I think that whether you follow a more conventional song structure or not each section must collide properly, let's say there's a song that wants to "be different" and add a pre-verse that doesn't fit, in that case I'd rather listen to a more conventional song in terms of structure, but well implemented.

For those wondering: Russian cover artist makes covers of various rock songs. his latest song was "The offspring - the kids aren't alright". Because of the dedication of his fans, they decided to invade original videos, and post comments along the lines of "listening to this after Tapok's cover", and "thank you for reminding me of what nostalgia feels like". Lyrics When we were young, the future was so bright Woah-oh The old neighborhood was so alive Woah-oh And every kid on the whole damn street Woah-oh Was gonna make it big and not be beat Now the neighborhood's cracked and torn Woah-oh The kids are grown up, but their lives are worn Woah-oh How can one little street swallow so many lives? Chances thrown Nothing's free Longing for, used to be Still it's hard, hard to see Fragile lives Shattered dreams (go!) Jamie had a chance, well, she really did Woah-oh Instead she dropped out and had a couple of kids Woah-oh Mark still lives at home 'cause he's got no job Woah-oh He just plays guitar and smokes a lot of pot Jay commited suicide Woah-oh Brandon OD'd and died Woah-oh What the hell is going on? The cruelest dream, reality Chances thrown Nothing's free Longing for, used to be Still it's hard, hard to see Fragile lives Shattered dreams (Go!) Chances thrown Nothing's free Longing for (what), used to be Still it's hard, hard to see Fragile lives Shattered dreams

For me the song is hitting the point that as younger people we had all the potential of the world in our hands and dreams we could chase - but as we grew older, our financial situation - family and all the crap we had to deal with along the way changed us - we had to focus on surviving - earning to pay bills - dealing with terrible family dynamics that influences how we saw the world and how we reacted to what situations we found our selves in, some of our own making, other situations were out of our controls - hence the shattered dreams and wasted potential, cruelest dream is reality if you dont make yourself strong enough to overcome the challenges --- 39 years old and this song hits hard - im not where i dreamed I would be as a teenager - but I am thankful for what I have fought for - it could have been much worse.

Your comment hits so hard, only truths, that's also why time is so precious, having lost +10 years of my life from my adolescence until I was almost 27 it hurts terribly. It's supposed to be the best and greatest time of our lives and I didn't get to enjoy it, partly my fault to be honest but there were too many things I couldn't control.. and it That's what hurts the most. I don't know where I will be in 10 years, all I can say to the younger people reading this comment is that under no circumstances should you waste your time or stay in a place where you get bored. If your life seems dull and you are missing out on something, wake up, you can still pull yourself together! You have to go for it and enjoy, experiment and discover as much as you can, do good around you, as best you can and above all don't look back. Life is far too short and precious to waste your time, the worst thing is to find yourself in 10, 15 or 20 years and have regrets. You must avoid that at all costs, regrets are the worst thing, I know that you have already seen and heard this type of speech many times and that it is much easier to to say what to do, I had exactly this kind of reaction and today I bitterly regret it. If you need help, get help, talk to someone, anyone, but above all don't stay alone, whoever you are, no matter where you are there will always be people who appreciate you and who will love you! Be yourself as much as possible, don't be afraid and move forward, move forward, move forward again and again. I want that in 10 years or more you will have no regrets when you come back to listen to your favorite music, KZbin is the greatest time machine so until then I want your nostalgia for the future to make you much more happy than sad !

What you say is so true, been listening to this type of music for the past 20yrs only, before I use to be a edm freak, but the words in these songs hit hard reality as if these guys can see the future, had I know back then what I know now, I would have made all the same mistakes as they where well worth it, however fixing them would have been so much easier........For those of you young than 30 yrs old, listen to the above mentioned words carefully as it is straight out reality, wise words to follow and I quote "Do not create problems for your self, as other people will create enough problems for you" I never new what it meant at the time I was told, 37 years later I now know that this is the reality this world issues to us all........ My man you are a legend for putting this out there and even if your words only helps 1 youngster it would have been well worth it ... I diffidently second your statement 100%

Hadnt cried so hard in years. Maybe I needed it but it really hit something. This was one of the first albums I ever purchased for myself as a teenager. This was one of my favourite tracks... I used to listen to it without knowing how much relevance the song would hold in life now over 20 years later. Pretty insane. One of us OD'd One of us died in an accident One of us got addicted to crack and vanished One of us can't get past the struggle for minimum wage One of us has been on suicide watch multiple times and can't hold any sort of job One of us has an unknown illness that's slowly killing him One of us is an accomplished type of person but can't break their gambling addiction One of us got handed the family business but that's his life now One of us fell into family life with a toxic relationship One of us went crazy One of us went overseas One of us actually made it somewhere themselves in life And then there's me. I was born with an anxiety disorder. I used to think I'd fall into some category there above... but oddly enough life is panning out ok. You know, for all those burned dreams and long gone aspirations I have now, hearing this song really puts it into perspective just how lucky I am to be on the path I'm on, even though life isn't exactly as I'd hoped it would be nor am I nowhere near any position I'd like to be in with my career and family life, I'm happy and have a direction in life to move in. Just that alone counts for more than most it seems. Oh how lucky I really am.
