Interesting! I think I'm going to give the "tubs" idea a try myself. Since I'm still designing my build I can work around a common when I work out the planter area. That rubber looks like a lot of hard work and waste for a relatively small area. Fantastic video though, I'm eager for the next one!

Hey guys! Thank you so much for this tutorial! I built a graywater planter last year and worked perfectly so that I decided to step it up and build one for a bigger house. After one week of operation water started to become black and rather smelly. Any idea about what might be happening? I'm giving it time hoping that the colonies of bacterias will begin to grow on the gravel...but any hint of experience that you might share would be highly appreciated! Thanks

I wrote down everything on the build for the planter. However which end is 4ft deep and which end is 3.5 feet deep? Video shows the west side with reception cell and both 2inch pipe inlet and over flow being on that end which should be the 4 foot deep end? but in the video someone stated the other way. About ready to build and want to make sure I have it right. Its currently laid out with the west side being 4 feet deep with reception cell and both inlet and over flow on that end. Please respond as soon as possible.

That's a good question. I am going to completely honest, I don't know the full answer. I do know that part of the piping system between the cells are the observation tubes which allow you to see the water level throughout the planter. The pipes are PVC and glued with standard pvc primer and cement.

I don't know if you are still responding to posts on this video or not. I see your latest videos are in the Northeastern part of the US - are you not into Earthships any longer? Love the videos and my wife and I are looking into building an Earthship in Northern Nevada. I am quite impressed with the design and build. Thank you and Blessings!

ye like she said y not just drop a couple cheap horse troughs in the ground instead of all that complicated liners and stuff. that would be hard as hell to clean out vs shovel the growing medium out of the troughs and remove them for easy cleaning. with respect to the method of pluming and draining you chose to go with either temporary like a hose or more permanent plumbing like pvc. for a planter bed imho I think it would be cleaner easier setup w removable troughs sitting in a concrete "pit" type setup w one master drain into outside planters.

Hi, why do you have tree separated "pools"? if at the end you connected all of them and you will let flow wather trou big stones.. And how did you glue in those pipes?
