OG Reacts to BabyMonster: Sheesh (Official Music Video)

Ok so the thing with Babymonster is that they are a YG group, which had Big Bang and Blackpink. There was a formula and while Babymon members are super talented individually, the formula sounds recycled and not fresh unlike XG. XG’s lyrics often reference rappers and artists who came before them such as J Cole, Bone Thugs & Harmony, NWA Eazy-E etc and this shows their deep knowledge and respect for music history and artists. We don’t see that in any other group. They also draw in Japanese anime, cosplay, fashion and design, makeup, nails and hair and so overall they are fresh and we have never seen what they deliver before (such as their insane MV’s like Howling, Woke Up, Girl GVNG, etc yet they can also pivot to R&B evoking TLC, Destiny’s Child, Boyz 2 Men etc. XG is just on their own level and I’m now seeing several XG tracks showing up on veteran and widely watched reactors such as Jeff Avenue and SeatinReacts both of them have a deep knowledge of Kpop and XPop and I’m waiting for SafeCave and Differently Alike year end lists because almost certainly XG will be on their lists. But to be fair, Babymonster is very talented but you probably have been spoiled by listening to XG first because their bar is too high and too unique for any comps

For Babymonster's ballads : their first is "Stuck in the middle" but it's a little too "naive" for my liking (they sing great on it though). On their last album though they have "Love maybe" and "Love in my heart", these are very nice songs where their vocals shine a lot. As for another title track, I think "Drip", their last one, is really their best title so far, it's the one where they started to find a good sound for them and not rely on the typical YG formula (their company who created Blackpink). They are super talented, Rami (the blond one) is already a great vocalist of this generation and she's not even 18. Asa, the fast rapper, is on par with XG's rappers (there are videos of her rapping Eminem's Godzilla and Joyner Lucas when she was like 14), and all other are super young and talented in their own way buuut... I don't think you can compare them to XG. It's not a BM problem, I think that, for following Kpop since two years now, nothing compare to XG, especially for westerners, ESPECIALLY old school hiphop loving westerners. They are the only ones to have this vibe amongst the girl groups. XG ARE ELITE. They truly have no weakspot, there are very few groups that can do literally everything at an elite level, Babymonster are among these groups and I think that's why people have been recommanding them to you, but the difference is really on the production part : Simon, the XG producer knows clearly where he wants to go, he wants to make this old school western sound mixed with japanese and korean pop/hip hop that speaks to so much people, and that you can recognize even when they are exploring different genres. Whereas YG are often all over the place with their productions, they are trying to find a sound for Babymonster whereas Simon trained XG to fit his ideas and sound. That said, my little advice regarding Kpop is this : Kpop is really interesting, it's fun and although it's a big industry set on depleting people of their money, they do have an artistic approach for their music, video concepts and lyrics. There are a great number of talented people among the groups and my belief is that there will always be something from someone to appreciate because it's so diverse and rich. But XG is really on their own lane, and that's what make them unique (and also why they haven't had much success in Korea). So that's why I think if you should continue this journey towards kpop, you shouldn't try to find another XG, it's setting you up for failure. Try to find other groups with other vibes you can enjoy while considering XG your favorite, I think it'll make you appreciate the process a little more.

I'm an ALPHAZ ,but I've always loved Kpop, so when BABYMONSTER came out, I was really excited that a great monster had appeared. XG was not popular in Korea because it doesn't sound like Kpop, but recently, other Kpop groups have been going to XG concerts, publicly saying that their favorite group is XG, and saying that they listen to XG on their playlists, which I'm very happy about. However, what doesn't sound like Kpop is XG's own lane. As a Kpop group, I think BABYMONSTER has the best talent. And XG is also great. They're not the same, so both are fun. XG has an office in Korea, so they pay taxes to Korea. And it was also a hot topic when a Kpop group called ITZY came to the audience seats, blending in with the general public, to watch XG's performance.

BM needs to drop more content that goes viral though. They came out around the same time as XG and have a healthy catalog but unless your a fan, they're not moving the needle for newcomers. BlackPink soloists are generating more exposure than this young group 7 MVs

XG llego para cautivarme desde el primer dia. En mi opinion no creo que nada se compare a ellas siendo objetivo en mi opinion y sin desmerecer a nadie. BabyMonster, Black Pink, etc son grupos muy buenos en lo suyo y puedes encontrar cosas muy buenas en ellos pero has comenzado por XG y tal vez ya no te cautiven los demas grupos. Inconcienmtemente estaras comparandolas con mis niñas. Es que ellas no se ven forzando un papel, o siendo superficiales. Son genuinamente asi. I would say, in terms of rapping skills, vocals, and choreography, the only k-pop group comparable to XG, would be Badvillain. Check out Badvillain Hurricane official MV. There are lots of really good k-pop groups, but for me, BV comes closest to XG. BV are really new, so their catalog isn't very big... But Hurricane goes hard.

One thing I like about Babymonster is that they have a wide diversity of songs. Each girl has their own talents and it shows throughout their songs. It's not often you get this many talented girls in one group where each one can hold their own. Listen to more of Babymonster's songs and you'll hear how versatile this group is. It's like how for Babymetal, every song is different hitting different genres. I'm hoping this is what YG will do with this super talented group of girls. My suggestions are similar to other commenters. Drip, Like it LIke That, Stuck in the Middle, Love Call, Batter Up, and their predebut song Dream. XG vocalists lineup can sing the way how OG diva sings with their techniques ( example: chisa - never enough, some of the members sang mariah carey song in their tour, comes decently close and good in technique) .... most kpop fans praise and care a lot about high notes but not other techniques in singing (and xg doesn't care this much about singing high note, they more toward to technical). some kpop groups that care almost everything to me still maybe the Old gen, such like RV, mamamoo... which I respect them so much

Babymonster is a very talented group but not one that really stands out unless you just really love kpop. Instead I would suggest to you: Young Posse: Their first song was heavily criticized but they came back much stronger with several songs and now have their own identity as a hip hop group Big Bang: They're one of the most popular kpop groups. Think BTS but way less known outside of America Stray Kids: XG is often compared to them 2NE1: One of the most influential girl groups in kpop of the last 20 years. XG performed a live cover of one of their biggest songs at K-Con LA 2023 SEVENTEEN: A group that is known as the kings of synchronization and stands out because they do everything themselves as a 13 member group. From their choreography, writing all their own songs, directing all their own music videos and even doing all their own promo work

As an older metal head, K-pop or the whole pop genre in general is relatively new to me as well but one thing I’ve learned is if you keep trying to compare other groups to XG you’re just gonna be disappointed. XG is on their own level and don’t really have too much direct competition. The only K-pop group I can think of that can compare to the XG raps is Young Posse, but from what I have heard YP only raps, keep in mind I’m not a huge fan of YP so I could be wrong about that. EDIT: I saw someone mention BADVILLAIN in the comments and they are also very good and very underrated.

I like Baby Monster, but not all of their songs, just as I like other songs by other groups, but not all of them. It's as if I can only choose 2 or 3 songs from each group, and so on with all kpop groups. I guess it's a matter of taste. I've also noticed that Kpop has a sound structure where a single song has a lot of changes of rhythm, beats, cadences, etc. And I think this is influenced by all those networks that let you upload a short clip of 1 minute or little more. So you can upload a whole segment of the song in that length. We old people are living in an era where young people are incapable of listening attentively to a song that has the same musical structure for 3-4 minutes. They can only keep their attention on a song for a minute and a half at the most before they get bored. So in Kpop they know this and the songs have that structure to keep the audience totally focused on the whole song. XG is at the moment (without categorizing) the only group that I like all their songs, raps, vocals, and in general all the extra content they do. I feel they do it with care and give us the best of them and their music. That is my opinion and no one has to subscribe to it or agree with it.

Kpop is just music made by Korean companies. Kpop is many genres. Kpop is a mixture of pop, r&b, rap, trap , EDM and rock. As a 49 year old myself, I would recommend Walk by NCT 127, Chk Chk Boom by Stray Kids, Work by Ateez, Hot by Seventeen and Black Swan by BTS just as an introduction to those groups. And Strategy by Twice with Megan Thee Stallion.

BABYMONSTER ages range from 15-22 yrs old so they still have a whole lifetime ahead of them. They just debuted a year ago. And because of their ages, their lyrics have a certain limit. Can’t really compare them to XG. They all shine in their own way. BABYMONSTER is very big in K-pop and have great songs that show their talent in different aspects

I wouldn’t necessarily say it was a problem but YG definitely took their time for them to train, considering majority of them are still very very young. There have been times when groups debut too early and have a lot of hate towards them so I like that YG took his time with them. Also the fact that it was supposed to be a 5 girl group not 7, so I’m sure they had to make some adjustments to fit them all. Another thing, Ahyeon got very sick and couldn’t debut with the other girls so that could’ve also added to the prolonging of their debut.

Gotta give Babymonster some time, they’re still kids. Their potential is off the charts. Xg’s youngest member is as old as Babymonster’s 2nd oldest member so that should tell you how young Babymonster is. Both groups are killing the game right now tho. But you need to check out some khiphop. That’s where it’s at. I’ve seen someone mention checking out jay park to you and I would agree with that person. Should def check out his songs on it, ktown, and mommae. Those would be good recommendations into the khiphop world.

I enjoy this song. It is in my favorite main playlist. I don’t know if I’m liking all their music but I’m willing to take it song by song. This one though will get me to to sing and dance along to while I’m driving or working out. If you’re looking for additional out of the box music from this industry (K-pop), I’d recommend stray Kids again as they write and produce their own music and the leader individually chose the group members which is not the usual. Maybe start with God’s Menu or Thunderous if you feel like it.

Babymonster is kpop! XG to a hip hop/rap person is always going to rank superior. Babymonster to me hasnt really found their definite sound, things still look or sound experimental. Clik clak, listening to it feels like it has great potential but didnt quite deliver, the struture of the song and the girls sometimes look like they are trying too hard to be good hip hop impersonaters. The ppl behind the scenes can sometimes give u material that is good but would suit other artist better… given to the wrong person screams out of place, lacking in authenticity. Sheesh is more their real vibe. They shouldn’t be in the same category as XG, not because I prefer one or the other… is just very different lanes.

You should check out Kiss of Life if you want to listen to more of the nostalgic RnB/pop sound. These girls have awesome talent too. Out of all the girl groups kiss of life and XG are the best imo. I feel the same. They're perfectly fine . Nothing wrong with them. Just not my cup of tea. I think for us older cats, the vibe feels young. Whereas XG brings a vibe that reminds us of when we were young!😂 For me personally XG is straight hip-hop and R&B . Babymonster as well as Blankpink is hip-hop through a K-pop filter, literally and figuratively😂 No hate, tho. I like BP!🫶 So there's a group that is known as THE vocal queens of South Korea. They're called Mamamoo. While they do have elements of hip-hop, they also have latin, soul, jazz, doo wop elements as well. Its kinda long, they do quick versions of a bunch of their hits, so no worries if you don't react to it. This song and many other K-pop bands and songs utilize a recycled flow cadence made famous by an older group 21. Blackpink has this exact same flow. It has nothing to do with the language it’s all about flow. Listen to XG “show you can” they are spitting Korean and Japanese primarily but it is drippin with rap mastery. When kpop stops using the same 21 flow and venture out to try something new you will continue to hear this. I’m happy many male K-pop rappers change flows but the females Are stuck in just one lane.

Sheesh is the definitive debut of the BabyMonster vibe only preceded by Batter Up introduction. Clik Clak is an Intro or interlude song that leads into the follow up, Drip. BabyMonster is very K-Pop and their brand is top level but still overshadowed by BlackPink. Compare XG's interlude or Intro songs Hesonoo & X-Gene and there's no denying the difference between K-Pop to Global Pop (X-Pop). BabyMonster will also be a continued comparison to BlackPink because BlackPink are THE breakout group that is K-pop that made global status. Clik Clak is even a lyric to one of BlackPink's songs as a homage to them paving the way for BaeMon. If you are going to do comparisons, XG is the orange to BabyMonster as the apple. Young Posse is a better comparison to XG but that too is like East Coast Hip Hop vs West Coast Hip Hop.,

Yes BabyMonster is k-pop. I am afraid you will not find what you are looking for. XG is the only producer of x-pop in the galaxy! K-pop,J-pop or any other pop will leave you disappointed. Only because it's not x-pop and it's not trying to be each one has it's own style flavor and Fandom. They are not comparable to each other. Like apples and oranges you have a preference not superior choice. Simon created XG(extraordinary girls) and XGALX entertainment(x galaxy entertainment) and x-pop to be completely unique. While I encourage people to explore the fantastic music in the world I think it would be more fun and productive to do so without as much comparison if only to enhance your experience 😊

I like Babymonster for the most part, but they really have get someone better to write the rap sections. It's been my #1 issue with the group. Way too much jibberish. I've seen the pre-debut stuff and the girls can deliver on the rap side, but they have to give them the material to work with. Luckily the rest of their songs are usually really good. Just dragged down by some of those rap sections.

Babymonster are a new and young group, but I think you are starting with the wrong impression of the KPOP genre and this is causing you confusion. First of all, XG are not exactly a KPOP group, they are Japanese, produced by a Japanese company for the Korean market and trained to some extent in KPOP standards, but their concept is different and they are aiming for the international market and sing in English 98% of the time. They are very good, but their pure rap songs and the lack of lyrics in Korean are something that hinders them in this market, this is what others have to do if they want to be successful in the KPOP scene, so this is what Babymonster do and this is expected - pop plus some rap elements and possibly interesting elements like high notes for example. CLICK CLICK was recommended to you, not because it's their best song, but because you prefer this type of music, and this is a completely rap song from their latest album, otherwise they, like most KPOP groups, don't do such, but a mix of genres, because that's what they're looking for. Look at Drip, it's probably their best song, there is also a performance at THE FIRST TAKE show as with XG, which is great if you want to enjoy live vocals and rap in perfect quality.

This is what I'm saying. You were set up with being directed to Clik Clak first and without much context. First, you can't compare XG and BM, they are both tremendously talented but very different. Just the fact that XG releases are all in English will automatically make them more palatable to new listeners in western music markets. But beyond that, trying to compare the 2 groups directly is delulu. XG is 2 years more experienced and on average like 3 years older than the members in Babymonster who are still in their rookie year. XG at debut was nowhere near the XG of today. They didn't bust outta the gate doing crazy ish like "Woke Up" or "Howling". I believe that XG is just hitting their prime and are really about to go off(even more than they have been). BM is still developing and won't be in the same position for a good 2 years at least.

Great Reaction OG Reacts! In regards to CLIK CLAK was the Producers having fun with BABYMONSTER! But mostly they were trying to showcase one of the Main Vocalist who can actually Rap fairly well! Not meant to impress anyone but about 75% of the reactor liked it for the most! BABYMONSTER debuted at a 6 member group on November 27th 2024 one member had health issues and missed two Music Videos BATTER UP and a Ballad Stuck In The Middle! They went against the rule of thumb for K-pop and did something different! Just to showcase their Vocals! Hopefully down the road you’ll give those two Music Videos a try since you wanted a Ballad! BABYMONSTER is 5th gen and XG is 4th gen BABYMONSTER are still developing in more ways than one! 🤘🙏🏻

So I’ve watched several of his reactions to XG now even baby monster but I have to be honest with you…. You really have to stop comparing XG to K-pop groups. XG is in their own lane and they’re not even considered K-pop. And even though XG is an all Japanese girl group they don’t even consider themselves J-pop either…. XG is in a whole different genre. What I think you should do is start watching K-pop groups and then start comparing other K-pop groups to K-pop groups. But XG themselves or an international group that’s why all their songs are in English. If you really wanna get to know XG better you really should check out their documentary extra extra. Then you’ll start to have a more better appreciation for XG and what they had to go through why they seem so polished and veterans at the rap game. But it’s not fair to XG or even baby monster to compare those two groups. And I always think that you should always start with the debut song that any group comes out with.

And to be honest, XG doesn’t actually have not one bad song, even if tippy toes is considered to be not their most popular one. But then obviously maybe you’re not an alpha because I’ve suggested that he gets a chance to get to know the group by checking out the documentary. He says constantly in all his videos that they’re really polished and I’m sure he’s wondering why. But it’s like a person who’s uneducated that would start on step one and then skip all the way to step 32. He will never get an understanding of their growth as a group and how better they got as lyricist. I myself have been a rapper over the years, not professionally, but I have made CDs here and there. And I actually study the game of hip-hop. And from what I understand about him, he also likes a nice beat which if you are a person like me, they’re usually three things that make a really good song. 🎶 the hook the course and the beat and there’s two out of three of those which are pretty good. And their dance practice to tippy toes is one of the best performances I’ve seen in any group period. If you paid attention, he also said he likes the choreography which he has said many of times is usually the missing element in groups. I’ve been a fan of this group since they’ve debuted and even before that. It doesn’t really seem like you are a true fan, but whatever everyone’s entitled to their opinion, even if it is ignorant….

The XG isn't K-pop crowd needs to give it a rest. Their founder/producer/CEO was a k-pop artist. Their staff, vocal coaches ,dance instructors, and choreographers operate in K-pop. The ladies of XG live in Korea. With Maya as the exception, Korean is their second language of fluency. They promote on K- pop music programs. They do K-pop variety shows. Hell their initial fan group was introduced to them because they listen to K-pop. If XG isn't part of the K-pop industry, then I guess Drake isn't part of the rap industry.

It's cool to educate and explain why they aren't but not go at their throats, specially when it's someone who doesn't listen to KPOP/JPOP/XPOP at all. I don't understand how some of those same people complaining about someone mistaking them for KPOP are usually the same ones on X crying because KPOP award shows don't show them love when clearly they deserve it. Unfortunately because of the history between Korea and Japan, XG would never be fully accepted. That and the fact that they are aiming for a more global audience and being a global group with a more western style as well as English being the main language. To my knowledge, no one in XG has ever said "we are not K-pop ". What their founder said is that he's aware that there will be countless opinions about what they're doing in pursuit of their vision. He said that instead of trying to define what is and what isn't K-pop, their goal as newcomers was to be accepted based on the quality of their sound and the talents and charisma of the members of XG.

There was a recent interview where the interviewer mentioned he interviews "a lot of KPOP artists" and quickly went to say, "I know your not KPOP." Could've just been to avoid the comments correcting him, but the ladies laughed in almost agreement. Yea at the begining they definitely rode through the KPOP system but I'd say they have pulled far from that in the past year or so. Aside from promoting their new songs on those shows, mind you they live in S. Korea so not sure where else they would do so, nothing about them is KPOP. I personally think they should've just stuck with we're a global group vs creating a new genre.
