I think generally that happens because a lot of the bars are too complex for people to understand instantly and react to straight away. Not saying they are "complex" as such but they require some thought and a lot of battle fans don't want to have to think they just want the instant gratification of an easily understandable joke. That's why the better more technical bars get slept on and why your more technical battlers get called "boring" and lose to a single syllable "your mum" rhyme scheme. That's why fellas like lunar had such a big following, he pleased the real hip hop fans with decent rhyme schemes and lyrical skill and also pleased the new breed (majority) with funny jokes.
