I'm Muslim, but even in Islam Jesus is recognized as an extrememly important prophet, born of a virgin, with the mission of bringing people close to God, teaching them love and respect, and bringing spiritual freedom to the people of Israel and the world. Having once been Christian, my family celebrates Christmas, and it is still my favorite holiday. This is still one of my favorite Christmas carols. It feels very powerful and touching

My favourite version!! As a Messianic Jew from an Orthodox background, love hearing the blend of התקווה "The Hope" (Israel's national anthem) into the song about Israel's hope.

it's really nice seeing Jews who love their roots. The fullness of Holy Laws and Mercy through old and new Testament :)
@bonniemorales37829 жыл бұрын
You should know this song was written in the 12th century long before the state of Israel existed. This song wasn't woven into anything.... The national anthem was woven into this song.
@janiceureia86859 жыл бұрын
And I love this song too. Though we are not Jews seems like we are so close with the Messiah of Jews. And longing for the Redemption and Peace to the Jews. Freedom from their enemies Spiritually and Physically. God bless Israel!
@michaelcaza-schonberger92829 жыл бұрын
+Bonnie Morales you should be able to hear how the melody of Hatikvah was woven into this ancient and beautiful advent hymn. Israel has existed since God called Isaac by a new name, that name is Israel (read your Bible, Genesis 32:28). Your comment isn't only arrogant, but also ignorant. You completely missed my point (thus showing your ignorance), and then arrogantly try to make me look uneducated (by pointing out the very obvious fact to anyone that loves classical church music that this hymn was written long before 1948). If you actually listen to the music in this particular rendition of Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel, you will quickly notice that it's not the beautiful Latin plainchant (which is the traditional melody) all the way through, but that it is a medley of the traditional melody with the music of Hatikvah. Before your so quick to comment, maybe think first. If this were a conversation one could say you suffer from the proverbial "foot in mouth disease".

In other words the physical nation of Israel has been replaced by the spiritual Israel of all believers. Moreover, the so called Jews, if they are elect for something then it has got to be God's Wrath. *Romans 9:6* For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: *Romans ****2:28* Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: *Revelation 2:9* I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. *1 Thessalonians ******2:15* Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:

Look. All of us have this feeling in us that can only be filled with Him. God chose us and gives us the option to choose Him. But think about it. Drug addicts try to fill their emptiness with drugs, others try money, still others use pagan gods but no matter what everyone tries to fill itwith something. But the only thing that can fit that hole is God. If left to ourselves we would all feel empty and at the end of the day we would still feel empty. God will never leave us, any of us, because He

For God so loved the world that He gave us His only Son Jesus Christ, God did not send His Son to condemn the world, but that the world may be saved through Him! There is not greater love then the Holy Spirit love, which is the fruit of the love between God the Father and God the Son. God is merciful, His mercy is incomprehensible to both human and angelic. Eternal Father, we offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of your dearly beloved Son our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement of our sins and of those of the whole world. For the sake of His sorrowful passion have mercy on us and on the whole world.

This hymn does a superb job of identifying the underlying desire of man. It is not sexual pleasure, it is not money, it is not power, it is not prestige. No it is the desire for peace and understanding. It is the strong desire and hope that all humans have of one day finding peace and ending war and conflict. Like the Abbot from Walter Miller Jr's third act of Canticle for Leibowitz said: " Man tries to make for itself a new Eden yet the closer they come to making it the quicker they tire of it"

This is the only version of my favourite carol that actually honours the meaning. I love seeing the supportive comments from Messianic Jews that attest to this. Oh Israel... “I have been the Lord your God ever since the land of Egypt; you know no God but me, and besides me there is no savior" Hosea 13:4

There seems to be a lot of confusion in the comments section. People seem to be under the impression that "Israel" refers to the modern-day State of Israel. In fact, this is a very ancient Latin Advent hymn from the 12th century, and the Israel in question is the Church, the People of God, i.e. Christians.

Right on. In one sense, Israel is defined as the body of believers, Christians, that are united by faith (Romans 9:6), and in another sense, God will unify the nation Israel when He returns (Ezekiel 37:22)

You could NOT BE more wrong... This is for ALL people but most especially for Messianic Jews as Jesus came to save them first.... READ your Bible... And remember Jesus was born a Jew....

this makes me cry to think of Mary wrapping her new, perfect baby boy in her burial cloth. How symbolic

Love this rendition! Often I have a Paul moment (Romans 9:1-5) hearing my people's anthem sprinkled through the original music, shear genius! Thanks for posting. Merry Christmas everyone.

I don't understand everything about predestination and free will, but one thing I do understand (though not as much as I would like to): that God loves mankind, that Jesus died for all of us and "desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all". (1. Timothy 2,4-6) Now, this is a very clear statement, and I believe it's true.
