yes you are correct ,I got my k40 last week and the tube is clearly marked (peek power 37 watts,Normal power 35 watts)and the life can be extended by keeping the power below 75%.

The claim on getting cancer depends on what you are cutting. Venting outside with a fan (without a filter) is just as effective at extracting the fumes for 1/8 of the cost.

Good point on the fumes. I was running a diode laser when I first started. Was looking at building fume extraction system and this and that. One day of running all day and I got sick, very sick, light headed and headache and tired. So close to going to hospital. That day I said no more and sought out a co2 for the main reason that it comes with the fume management and safety.

I rememer testing the beam width of 2 lasers I have worked with. At 100% the beam is the widest, I hate that ! So I always run at 60 to 70% Works like a charm. APARANTLY it also helps with the problem described in this video. Lucky me o.o

I've had my K40 for nearly 2 years and it still works as good as when I first got it. However, I never use more than 6-10 ma. I only use it for engraving and not cutting.

Thanks for the info, now I understand why these tubes are so expensive. I guess there are no semiconductor lasers yet that can handle 100W of power.

I think that choosing a laser machine depends on what you have to do with it. Most of us are hobbyists and therefore will buy a 40W laser machine for 300 bucks, then upgrade it with some features like air assist, replacing bed.... minor ones. The mean duration of a laser tube is way more than 6 months, because we use it not everyday and not for 8 hours a day... It’s like buying a Porsche to drive it up and down our alley. Does it makes sense? Nope. So we buy a Fiat 500 and we’re happy.

Not really laser will not be dead because you use less often. Laser has CO2 inside and other gases with smaller molecules will get inside the glass tube, this makes your tube useless. It has no effect wether you use it or not.

Thank you for talking about the carcinogenic nature of the gasses produced by laser cutting and engraving. Most of the new diode laser systems are being sold without enclosures and thus no extraction. More education on the dangers of inhaling these gases is needed.

Haha. I brought my K40 second hand and have had it for 2 years or more. I'm a hobbyist but I went to the trouble of setting up proper external extraction. I think I might be some way along the road of having a useless tube by now. Oh well. I've had fun with it!

I apparently spoke too soon. Just finished changing out the tube and the power supply. I think the power supply was ok. But had some work to do and didn’t want to chance it. It’s a 100watt system. I have to say. I think it’s working better now than it ever did. I’m cutting through 3/4” (20mm) hardwood at 90% and 5mm per second. With a 2” lens. Probably be even better with the 2.5” lens.

Most of these name brand lasers are made in China and all include the same electronics. As soon as you join a group looking to buy a laser you get the individual trying to sell you the laser they import (from China) then tell you Chinese lasers are crap. My 100/90W has a RECI tube. I fail to see the value in paying 12K for similar power

I have a question for you. I purchased a 300w co2 mixed laser cutter and when I got it the tube had water in the bottom. I found out that it was broken. They are sending another. Upon talking to The seller I asked where my rotary tool was, and she said you don't need one. Apparently my laser cutter doesn't engrave!! Hers my Question, what feature makes the laser cutter engrave? Thank you from David.

@rogerwebb9600
@rogerwebb9600 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, I don't think the problem exists with such low led laser power. The led lasers were developed primarily for DVD burners and the like if my memory serves me right. This type of led laser normally has a lifespan of between 7,000 to 10,000 hours, that is one of the reasons why your hard drive can fail after 3 to 5 years I suspect. I exhausted the fumes outside, send the problem downstream, ha, ha, ha. I'll be sending you a private mail for a chat if that's ok.

Roger Webb Look forward to having a chat. The laser I have is 1. 4 watt but some use led lasers rated at up to 15 watts assuming the specs are actually true. Don't think what comes out the exhaust hose is much worse than what comes out the chimney on a cold winters night. Cheers Peter

Rob Hampton dvdrw. (Read and write) are commonly referred to as DVD burners and while not entirely technically/correct we know what he means, as for diode lasers they still stink when cutting so maybe not so safe, especially if you try to work with the wrong material, cheers

Informative video but your tag line about China !#$!@ is a bit unfair. The problem does not lie with China or their quality of manufacturing, as illustrated by the laser tube you recommend in the video as a good example. The problem is people wanting things, and not wanting to pay for them. The nationality of a product origin is no guarantee of quality, China just happens to have the structure to produce cheap tat at a lower price point that anyone else, and there is no shortage of people to lap it up. China is capable of, and indeed does, produce goods the equal of any other nation in the world. .
