Bravo Tara 🤩 and Apollo 🖤 for being so understanding! This was clearly - not - a ride for more experienced riders who wanted to go faster; wish there could have been separate groups as some fans suggested 👍 That is the scary thing about trail rides - there are so many more stimuli 🔥for the horse just by yourself, then even more when you're riding with others 😳 A horse that's fine in the paddock or doing flatwork could be completely different 🤔 on a trail!

I love your videos, BTW, Tara. I had a serious fall just under 3 years ago (broke or fractured 13 bones, punctured my lung, dislocated my hip) and have not ridden since. I am just beginning to re-educate my girl, the one who threw me, and perhaps one day I will ride her again. BTW, it was my fault, not hers, she was green broken and I got on her without a saddle or bridle. That's a bad idea, my friend! She was also a spookles, but we are working to fix that, from the ground, and she is coming along nicely! Spooks aside, she was a lovely horse to ride, very obedient with a lovely smooth set of gaits and I look forward to riding her again. Your videos are an inspiration to me and are also educational, (you don't realize that you are teaching horsemanship, but you are...) so thank you so much for making them! God Bless and I wish you, Bella, Farouk and Apollo all the best!

tfs that was a bad fall indeed. All the best with you mare.♥️
@PsychicIsaacs
@PsychicIsaacs 2 жыл бұрын
@@Tara101 Yep. She's coming along nicely. I'm doing bombproofing groundwork with her at the moment and every day she's a bit better! She's a Waler (Australian wild horse) crossed with an American Curly (Mustang breed) and this wild horse genetic probably accounts for the spookles, but this genetic makes her tough and a worker! When she is under saddle, she wants to go, and she'll go for fifteen or twenty miles and still not want to stop! I never cantered her that far, but once walked (led) her fifteen miles, had a one hour break then walked her the fifteen miles home! She was still good to go, but as for me, I was utterly stonkered! She was pushing to go faster the whole way and if I had begun to jog her, she would not have wanted to slow back down! Walers and American Curlys are both known for their exceptional work ethic. Walers were the Australian war horses at The Battle of Gallipoli and some of those same horses and their riders also fought at the Battle of Beersheba and went on to take Jerusalem from the Ottoman Turks. The history books say it was Lawrence of Arabia that took Jerusalem, but the truth is, it was a band of Aussies riding their Outback Bred bush Walers, that arrived in Jerusalem 48 hours before Lawrence got there! They rode there more or less non stop from Cairo, only stopping for short rests and very conservative water breaks (a few mouthfuls for both horse and rider each time!) and the legend says that the Turks were so impressed with this feat of endurance that when the Aussies demanded it, they surrendered on the spot! The Arabs who were helping the Australians reported that the Australian Walers had more endurance than their own horses (Desert bred Arabs) and were even better on desert treks than their camels! I don't know about that, but until recently, (2015) 20, 000 Walers were living wild in the harsh Red Centre of Australia. However, in that year the Australian Government declared them a feral animal and began an aerial culling campaign, killing almost all of them! These days, there are only a few hundred Walers left here in Australia, and they are in desperate danger of becoming extinct. This is also why I really did not want to get rid of my "Lily Baby" after my fall, instead choosing to just having her live free in the bush paddocks of my farm in semi-arid North Central Victoria.
@Tara101
@Tara101 2 жыл бұрын
why does the government want to get ride of Walers, how sad?

They are evil and stupid and have bought into the whole "green woke" thing. They think horses and other hoofed animals destroy the land through erosion and overgrazing but the truth is, when they are removed the understorey is not adequately cleared and the landscape becomes an impenetrable tinderbox, resulting in massive wildfires during our infamously hot Summers! Before humans were here, there weren't hoofed animals but there were hippo sized wombats and elephant sized kangaroos. They might not have had hooves, but they had weight and massive nails/claws and if they didn't cause compaction, I don't know what would! It's a lie, anyway, that horses cause soil compaction. The truth is, when it rains their hooves sink into the mud and create pockets that the water collects in. These pockets dry out during dry periods, but as soon as it rains again, they fill up, infiltrate water into the soil and actually hydrate the landscape more quickly, which prevents erosion! I have observed this on my own farm, with my own horse. If you sow seeds in these hoof-pocked areas, they settle in the bottom of the pocks and sprout more quickly than they would anywhere else, because even if you get just a few millimetres of rain, that moisture settles in the hoof pocks and helps to keep the soil hydrated! The truth is, our ecology here in Australia has been irreversibly changed. The hippo sized wombats and elephant sized kangaroos are long gone, but new "megafaunal herbivores", including horses, asses, camels, cattle and water buffalo were introduced that were filling these ecological niches nicely, before this interference began. It's not widely known, but there are also apex predators such as black panthers and pumas in the Australian bush as well, I have actually seen a black panther while out riding, early one morning. If it is left alone, the ecology will balance itself out but these people are too stupid to see that. Instead, they feel the need to slaughter a key part of our national heritage, the magnificent Waler. BTW, in case you were wondering, yes, the Brumbies were being slaughtered too. They are two different breeds and even in the Wild, don't seem to mix much. Brumbies are descended from Irish Cobs and other such working ponies and short of stature, heavy boned workhorses. They are heavy to medium boned, short (12 to 15 hands) with short legs, long spines and long Winter coats. They can be any colour including piebald, skewbald, dappled etc, but not with Appaloosa type spots. By contrast, Walers are descended from British Cavalry horses that were released into the Blue Mountains outside of Sydney during the 18th and 19th Centuries. At the time the men were told to shoot them, but of course they couldn't do that, so they released them. This means they were of a mix of Thoroughbred and Warmblood genetics, with a bit of British Heavy Horse (Shire or Clydesdale) thrown in as well. They are only ever black, bay, brown, chestnut or grey and pure Walers have no paint genetics. They have medium bones, stand between 14 and 16 hands and have excellent "classical horse" proportions, with legs about half the height and an ideal length of back for a riding horse. In the wild they are exceptionally hardy and spirited, but once bombproofed and broken they are excellent workers, friendly, docile and intelligent, and bond strongly with their humans. They seldom have any health problems and their hooves are especially strong, so that in most circumstances they do not need to be shod. It is a crime that they have been rendered almost extinct by ignorant and evil bureaucrats, but hopefully if people begin to speak up for them, they will continue to live here, into the future. Here is a 60 Minutes clip that may re fully describes their story and their plight... Warning: graphic content... kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJCUoZlnqtpooas

I think it's a good idea to offer trail walks for novice horses and riders... but then it should be made clear that the pace will be very slow so more experienced people can skip it. Or perhaps offer two paces - a slow ride for those building confidence on one path and a faster, more traditional hunt pace for the rest. Otherwise yikes! The frustration. Lol

It's like going for a ride at a horse hire place. I went to a riding 'school' in Tasmania and the poor novice riders were falling off left, right and centre. They let me take my horse (a puller) on a lone ride after we got back to the school. They could see that it hadn't been much of a ride for me at a slow walk. I got some galloping done on that lone ride. Tara, you should have gone with the 'fast' group. You might have got more trotting in and the occasional canter!
@pennytriggs29
@pennytriggs29 2 жыл бұрын
Apollo is a gentleman ... he wants to 'go' but he is playing by the rules that Tara laid out. He is still excited and if the opportunity to arises, he is ready for action. I think that this group should have been advertised as novice and not just a slower hunt. However, what is done is done. I can understand that inexperienced riders and novice horses will be unpredictable in a large group like this and though the pace is slow, there is risk too. I hope the rider that fell is OK and I hope there is an opportunity to pick up speed as the ride progresses. Tara is being an understanding rider, not moving to the front and causing more excitement for the horses that may be reactive. You have the patience of a saint. It is the right thing to do, as frustrating as it may be.

Poor Apollo, he is having a hot flush trying to go so slow, I hope he is not getting a sore mouth by pulling (not that I know much about horses and bridles) I honestly don’t think you would have done this ride if you had known what it was going to be like. Hunt indeed, you wouldn’t catch a tortoise at this speed and now everyone is at a stop. Far cry from the endurance rides on Farouk. Apollo is such a lovely moving horse , do you know if he had carriage training or if that gait is natural ? 🥕Thank you for sharing your beautiful horses with us - Laura

I love this Tara 👍 I must say, Apollo just looks like a champion to me 💖 He makes the other horses look like “backyard ponies“ not like that’s a bad thing, that’s what our horses are, backyard ponies. ♥️ This looks like so much fun💯 it reminds me of Big California trail rides with people ranging in experience from 0 to 100, lol🌟 Sending lots of love & big hugs from the Yosemite foothills, California to Tara & Apollo💫💞✨

The leader said trot Apollo! Not collected canter....😅 There's walking and then there's plodding! Enjoying seeing the countryside and there are some nice horses in the group, but for heavens sake.....it's painful how slow the pace. Of course Apollo looking regal and handsome.

how frustrating for you and Apollo, he was an angel not to have fought the bit. I bet farouk would not have liked this ride at all.

Hi Tara and Rens, Wow - Apollo showing nervous energy frustration - he is all lathered iffrom just this aggravating and boring walking - I wonder if this event leader is a novice and afraid to do more than walk ! You should just stop Apollo from the back of the group let the group get half a mile ahead and then let Apollo canter to catch up ! Is it acceptable to ask her if she would please trot and canter ? ? Bet it will be awhile before you go on another outing from this group ! ! Such a shame for people who can ride ! Take care. God Bless, Susan
