Hi I live in Montgomery County just north of Houston and have the same deer issue. The worst is the rubbing during rut. All my trees are covered in wire or they get destroyed by the bucks. Magnolias and Sycamore trees seem to get the most attention. I agree with junipers especially red cedars are wonderful and deer resistant. Have you tried silverberry (eleagnus commutata)? It’s my favorite deer resistant shrub. Fast growing, loves sun, and flowers in the fall and very fragrant. The variant I have is thornless and is not invasive but very dense. If you’re wanting a hedge deer won’t penetrate it or eat, I’d highly recommend it.

Hi! I can relate to the deer rubbing. I had a couple of younger trees in my front yard that had to be protected. I have not grown Silverberry, however, it has made my list for consideration. At that time, I think a different plant was selected due to mature size or leaf color ... :-/
