This performance was from autumn 2021 when Diana was 18 years old. The essence of the song is that a Cossack warrior, on the eve of a battle, has a dream in which his hat is blown from his head. His Captain explains that the dream means he will lose his life in the forthcoming battle.

Diana said this was the first time in her 18 years that she had performed with her bangs pulled back from her face. One of the judges remarked how that hair style showing her whole face revealed just how young she was. After she watched the video later, she said it looked like her eyebrows had a life of their own. After her final performance on this series of shows, Personal Jesus, they announced that Diana was the winner of the series. All of the other contestants/judges were beaming smiles as they hugged and kissed her and celebrated her win. They all fell in love with her during the duration of the series of shows. This is an old folk song about Stepan Razin, a 17th century popular Cossak folk hero. In it, Razin tells of a dream in which his hat is blown off by the wind when he is riding, and of how the dream puzzled him until his captain explained that it meant that his forces would be defeated and he would lose his head. As such, the song exploits the historical fact that he was eventually defeated, captured, tortured and executed. Diana's performance of it is indeed awesome!

He did not see the Cossack on stage who has a frightening dream of falling from his horse, but he saw a beautyful bride who is about to be married and who is worried about how her life will go. The first existing recording of this song was made in the 1880s by a 75-year-old Cossack. Who were the Cossack? The word comes from the Turkic (not Turkish) 'quzzaq' which means adventurer or free man. - were escaped serfs and adventurers. Living in the middle of nowhere, they have developed their own culture and tradition, which is expressed in a certain way of life, in their own songs, clothes, etc. Initially, the Cossack were oppressed by Catherine II and put up resistance. Catherine II soon recognized the advantages of border protection by light cavalry and assigned the Cossack their own territories on all of the empire's endangered borders. They provided the best riders in the Russian cavalry. Loyalty to the tsars was rewarded with a great deal of independence and special rights. But precisely because the Cossack always stood by the tsars, they were persecuted, exterminated or deported after the 1917 revolution. But the Cossack spirit, traditions and especially their music did not dissipate. Cossack songs are one of the most important elements of their ethnic identity. During World War II, Cossack in Europe volunteered under German command in hopes of returning home. After the German defeat, the Cossack were handed over by the Western Allies to the USSR (Stalin) in Lienz/East Tyrol on June 1, 1945, in violation of the Geneva Convention. Stalin pursued the Cossack and finally destroyed them. Many were deported to Siberia. During the Soviet era, especially in the Stalin era after World War II, the number of Cossack fell from an estimated 11 million to 140,000. Only in 1992 were the Cossack rehabilitated by Boris Yeltsin (perestroika). Only a few Cossack survived and are now trying to build a new life for themselves. For centuries, the Cossack kept to their customs, especially their music, an art of expression full of deep melancholy and exuberant temperament. These songs live on in the hearts of Russians. Надеюсь, будут и другие русские и советские песни - и тоже благодаря Диане Анкудиновой. Что это может изменить в большом раскладе? Ничего; но всё-таки останется какая-то тонкая ниточка, связывающая людей разных культур. Всё-таки что-то непременно останется - и возможно, когда-нибудь принесёт свои плоды - с этими немолодыми американцами, или с другими, более молодыми, которые смотрят на нашего артиста совсем другими глазами, которые сравнивают её со своими кумирами и понимают, что в России есть артисты, уверенно выдерживающие сравнение с самыми крутыми зарубежными звёздами. It's a must see for anyone that loves singing with unending emotion. The background of the song is essential to know. The title of the song is "Ornery (or "Fastidious" or "Finicky") Horses". The song has nothing to do with horses in reality - the horses are being used as a metaphor for life.
