Da’el presented its most famous song, adapted from one of the most beautiful Syrian songs: “La Zra’lek Boustan Wroud” (I would plant an orchard of roses for you) by the late Fouad Ghazi (composed by Abdul Fattah Soukar).
The above video is a merging of two demonstrations that took place in Da’el on 14/3/2012 on the “Friday of: Loyalty to the Kurdish revolution” and on 14/4/2012 on the “Friday of: A revolution for all Syrians”. In the demonstrations, people are seen singing “Oh Da’el, mother of the free, birthplace of liberty, upon your soil Bashar falls and falls the party of the Baathists” (written by the poet Abdul Hamid al-Naseer. However the physical interaction is different that before, with the difference between Hauran’s heritage and that of Homs; in this case, the clapping is done in a more spectacular way and lead by a “maestro” and the demonstrators’ arms are stretched with each clap, conveying the degree of enthusiasm.
The song lyrics themselves are very recent; February 2012 was the end of the flourishing Homs. The regime had declared war on the residents of Homs who in their turn declared their struggle against the regime. The latter then launched a series of massacres and “purification” operations that destroyed all of Homs’ neighborhoods starting from the poor neighborhood of Baba Amr, the first stronghold of the armed opposition in the city: “Baba Amr bleeds and the massacres are a daily occurrence, and the world does not care, where is Arab chivalry? The security council, deaf to our cries, did not hear the million-man march. Tell us how many it will cost; we want to liberate Syria!”
The banners that the cameraman from Hauran is holding in front of his camera are not specifically made for anyone and the signature reads: “Da’el, children of Hamza the lion hunter”. As for the two banners held on 14/3/2012, they read: “No matter what you do, you will not break our determination! Remember: we are the children of Hauran… what do you have left?! We did not even start yet”. On 14/4/2012, the cameraman shows banners of the news bulletin, or shall we say that mock and insult the news bulletin, “Breaking news! The Security Council sends 25 observers to Syria”, “Breaking news! 25 checkpoints in the city of Dael, the observers must have Grendizer’s technology”, “The Security Council’s decision = Death made by al-Assad, with an international flavor and a UN certificate”, “[the head of the Arab League observer mission Mohammed] al-Dabi went out of the Arab League’s doors to come back through the Security Council’s window, oh God we have no one but you!”, “The United States and the European Union continue to hide behind Russia’s intransigence, where was Russia in the time of Libya?”
Let’s notice the “policy” by which the people here deal with the international community, and the residents of Homs with the “National Council” and the “Coordination Committee”. Let’s notice these two: the song lyrics salute by name Ghada Owais, a Lebanese journalist for Al Jazeera, who has long fought with her pro-regime guests. The lyrics also salute the Palestinian Majed Abdul Hadi, author of the fiercest reports about the revolution in Al Jazeera as well. The Iranian and the Egyptian regimes do not escape either from the chants of Da’el’s Qashoush: “For shame, Suez Canal! A passage for [Iranian] warships”, “Snipers on the rooftops, and the planning is Iranian, Homs, nothing can break your will; you are the defiant Homs!”, while the demonstrators cheered behind Qashoush after every line in this verse: “Homs! Homs!”
