I think it was cruel to take all the mama cats babies, sterilise her and release her back into the wild - to what quality of life with all her kittens removed - why not allow her to keep one kitten and arrange for the mama and the remaining kitten to be adopted together/ it seemed as if the poor Mama cat was expendable/ why didn,t the rescue animal welfare people consider the mama cats welfare with more empathy? I think they are good people trying to help this little family - but this video made me feel very sad for the poor mama cat - left with nothing 😔

I think leaving one kitten would lead to a sad ending if mama goes for food and the kitten is left alone without a sibling warning system to help it evade the predators. The kitten would also be unsterilized because it is too young; just adding to the sad cycle of uncontrolled cat proliferation. Mama was docile and not feral at all, just scared. The best thing that they could have done for her would have been to work at desensitizing her to her fear of humans, to have her become a domestic cat and be adopted herself. Life outside is not easy for a cat or dog, they have been bred to be pets and lost a lot of their natural skills for survival. Add mean humans with their cars and tempers and poisons; the best thing would have been to find her a home too.

What about that gentle beautiful trusting mother cat? She will never trust humans again, and doesn't appear to belong to a colony to socialize, to be protected by others, and to share a life with. They did a terrible disservice to her by spaying her and releasing her witha surgical wound to slow her down, sudfen cease of lactation which can be painful and sometimes causing a blocked duct that could get infected, hormones out of whack, and leaving her to be alone outside without companionship and suddenly kittenless.

I think it is cruel to take the mother cat away from her brood in the first place, but even if that is necessary so they all have good lives, the idea of releasing the mother cat back where she had her family is not right. She needed to be adopted to a good home too. Also she should have been adopted as a bonded pair with one of her kittens going to the same family as her so she can at least be with one of her babies.
