Great to see a likeminded person. People are so crazy about spending money on these old cars that they seem to forget what really matters, driving them! You do inspire me to start recording videos of my own projects. Cheers from Europe!!

JJ, I like your philosophy. That Ranchero is too far gone to be a show car so you are "fixing" it within reason. You're giving it life again when some would junk it. Great job!

I just found your channel...I like your viewpoint of your rebuilds. I love seeing these old cars being brought back to at least being able to safely drive them. Heck some of these are just too far gone to restore...but it doesn't condemn them to rust to nothing! By the way, as you have found already, that 260 is an easy rebuild...

I love cars of the early 60s, no matter the brand. I just come across a 64 ranchero (289 equiped) no rust or body damage, just rough and ready for restoration. not sure if I'm going to end up with it but the dreaming has started. maybe this will be the one? I've done resto work before and thinking I'm ready to go for it, I'm ready too see where this takes me.

What you call "Ranchero", Aussies call "ute", short for utility. The 63 Falcon was designated XL, very much sought after here. We had a few 2-door Falcons pre-66 which had dealer fitted 289s but also had full factory warranty. In 66 or 67 the 289 became a factory option (not sure of some of the years), in 68/69 the 302, then in 70 the 351 was released which started a full-on supercar war between Ford, GM, and Chrysler. Love your work, keep it up man.

The Ranchero is the model of ute. Chevy has the El Camino ute, Ford has the Ranchero. Now you know.

2017, Good day mate, Sam from Australia, I came across your video dated 2013 about the 63 ford falcon Ranchero, between Australia and America, we have different names for some car parts, here is an example of some of those parts, wheel spindles, we call them brake rotors, fender, ours are mudguards, the hood, ours is the bonnet, the trunk, ours is the boot. A mate of mine had a 63 ford falcon ute, here in Australia, we have an auto parts shop called Rare Spares, if you can not find the part that you are looking for in a wrecking yard or in someones back yard, we go to Rare Spares to get the part, if they do not have it in stock, they will get the part in for you. keep up the good work on the Ranchero.

Justin, I had a 64 I was going to build years ago, unexpected expenses happened and I let it go. now I may be helping out a custom shop, they have one in the field and I fell in love with it. it's rough, but solid and complete, very do-able. I have spent the last two years fighting lung cancer, (which I won) and now just dealing with the adverse side effects of the treatments. got a ways to go but at least I'm getting there. Time for me to do something I enjoy. I've built others (a few) but that was years ago. I once owned a 64 Falcon Futura, put a 260 in it, even had a 64 Comet Caliente. we'll see where the future takes me, just believe it a coinidence visiting a friend and finding the ranchero out back. I made a mistake as I discovered it is a 65, (289), I don't think the 260 was available in 65? getting stoked, hope it works out.
@JustinJennings

Good job with the lung cancer. I'm pretty sure the 260's were all boat anchors by '65. Good luck getting that project and best wishes on your treatment.

Hey I love these ad not really sure why but I have owned 4 of the and they al started as 6 cyl cars ! Some had a manual trans one on the floor one on the tree and 2 autos ! I loved them all and had a blast with all of them. Kens falcons helped me out on nameplates and chrome that I used on one of them and the others I just had fun with ! Isn't that what the love of cars are about ? Have fun with them I will enjoy the build !

That looks very similar the the XM (62 - 64) Falcon Utilities (or 'utes' as they are colloquially known) that were made in Australia. Except our version had a more square rear tub and didn't have that raised combing yours seems to have around the edges.

I'm leaving my suspension on my 67 442 original,drum brakes same springs etc. When I get done I'll be driving the car I had in 1970 and not some modern version.Just my preference. Nothing wrong with updating for safety and better ride.( Of course I hopped up the engine a little,I'm not completely dumb)🍺( alright I might do front disc later on)👺

It's funny how some cars are held to different standards than others. A lot of Ford guys are just fine with the upgrades. Chevy guys don't even care if it's the same kind of engine the car was originally equipped with. But, if you put hoses with the wrong date code on your Plymouth, the MOPAR guys will lynch you. Here I am, just whatever blows your dress up. Cheers!

Do you know of any place to get the chrome trim that you have on your falcon? I keep coming up with nothing. Just the single strip. But my 65 ranchero has holes for strips like your falcon. Just curious other wise i will just fill all the holes.
@JustinJennings
@JustinJennings 7 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing you''re referring to the side trim on the '64. That stuff is hard to come by. Craigslist, eBay and auto swap meets can sometimes reveal them. Another place is to find a local Falcon club. There's always that one club member that hordes parts cars and if you get on his good side you might be able to talk him out of some of his parts. Good Luck!

I don't know. A lot of things happened. His motor got put into a Falcon Sprint. Those wheels went to the same Falcon Sprint. He now sets of vehicle dollies and rolls in and out of the garage. However, there was a lot of sheet metal replaced, even the bed. So, there is hope.

***** I really like 260 Ford motors, in a Falcon they run great, because of there 3.80 bore the rebuild can be more expensive than a 289,your plan to leave the body is cool, I have a 59 Fairlane club Victoria and going to do the same, I am a 50s 60s US car nut..

***** You think much the same as I do, I have sent many 2 speeds to scape, my favourite automatic is the Ford C4 behind a 289/302..I being Aussie born 51 have had a life long passion for 50s 60s US cars especially Ford .. The currant is a 59 Fairlane hardtop with a 292 Y Block I built myself, ECZ-G heads and lots more, has a T5 manual with 3.10 every time I drive it I smile, I could go on for ever but I will wait & see if you answer...

Justin Jennings G'day Justin, the Australian version is a much better looking ute. Better looking roof, better looking front end Have a look at some, google "XK / XL Falcon ute" and " XM /XP Falcon ute". There's plenty of reproduction parts available as well. Also have a look at "XR /XT Falcon ute". And something you've probably never seen before "Falcon panel vans" Cheers.

@JustinJennings
@JustinJennings 8 жыл бұрын
Your comment turned up in the spam. I'm not sure why. I pulled the engine because it was a high mileage 260. I, at the time, had a rebuilt 289 that was going to replace it. I put that 289 in the '64 Falcon Sprint and have since collected a '68 302 core.

I turned down a solid 63 Ranchero, because it had a bad wheel bearing. I feared a misshap in driving it to my garage. Instead, bought a 71 Ranchero with a 351 Cleveland and 4 speed. It turned out to be a rust bucket, big mistake.

Thats a 1961 XP Falcon ute with a strange bonnet, you call a hood! Ours had a simple 221cc straight 6 with a 3 speed column shift and great vehicles! Send me an email address and I can send back sales brochures and information about your rancheros dad before got his American girlfriend in the family way resulting in your little gem!
@JustinJennings
@JustinJennings 4 жыл бұрын
I'd love to see that brochure. Not sure why you're telling me my '63 is a '61. Here in the states I think the bonnet was the same from '60 to '63. The grill changed year to year and the front bumper changed from year to year. This one was a factory 260 V8, the first year a V8 was available in a Falcon. Americans never really embraced the straight 6 like they did in Australia. I had a 1964 Falcon with a 170 that I modified with a 250 2V head someone imported from Australia. I modified the intake to accept a 390 CFM Holley 4bbl. It wasn't going to break any land speed records. But, it started a lot of conversations when I lifted the hoo... I mean bonnet. mrinjen@gmail.com
