Anytime someone tells you women's wrestling just isn't as exciting.. throw on a Manami Toyota match. Old school Joshi just hits differently.

It was basically the Kumite. An 80's or 90's Joshi match without at least one broken neck was considered a dull affair.

I've got absolutely no problems with joshi wrestlers (especially the ones from the late 80s and early 90s)...but most of them got ruined by poor booking/bad gimmicks when they showed up in the US (Rhonda Sing/Bertha Faye, Terri Power/Tori, even Aja Kong and Bull Nakano were toned way down for their matches here).
@citizenbrain80655 ай бұрын
@Alsebra There is no arguing that fact. Every wrestler is different. I was a wrestler for about 10 years, and I can only speak for myself, but we know. I worked way more stiff than a dude working in Nashville, probably should have, but I loved Misawa, haha. There was nobody telling me to do crazy shit that caught up with me in the long run. I did it because i wanted to. I get that people only want wrestlers to be safe, and that is a good thing. That won't stop wrestlers from going 2 steps beyond where people think they should, though. Things are much better these days, though.

@@citizenbrain8065, what I never got about the WWF/WCW was that they didn't really mess much with the male talent during exchanges (for example, they didn't really touch some of the early luchadores, nor did they muck about with the mini-estrellas much), but they all but neutered the joshi ladies heavily...even the Jumping Bomb Angels (who were likely the most well-known joshis at that time in the US) had to adjust their style somewhat.

11:30. Was that Booker T at the announcer table?
@Alsebra5 ай бұрын
I'm fairly certain that, since Booker has been on a WWE contract since the WCW buyout, him appearing as a commentator for an unaffiliated promotion within that promotion's time (2021-present) would be rather unlikely (especially since Booker has been commentator in WWE since at least 2018).

@@arenasviscatanius, aye. The man wrestling as PCO in the business has been doing so since 1987 (notably as part of The Quebecers/The Amazing French Canadians in WWF/WCW while paired with Jacques Rougeau and less notably as Jean-Pierre LaFitte, a wrestling pirate gimmick that predated "Pirate" Paul Burchill); not only has he been doing this for nearly 40 years, but he's been doing it with a rather serious handicap: when he was young (12 or so), he ended up losing sight in his right eye.

There have been some rather vicious feuds throughout the Japanese promotions...in fact, there was a tag team match years ago between two teams from rival promotions that looked stiff as hell; it looked for all the world as though the women were actually trying to hurt each other. To answer the question, though, it's Minami Toyota in the black and Kyoko Inoue in the multicolored outfit. Oftentimes, the names on the screen are in the order of the person performing the offensive maneuver followed by the one absorbing the attack (in some earlier clips, the names were either missing (due to trouble researching the match) or switched around...but it seems to have been fixed for some time).
