OH MY GOODNESS!! Mortal Kombat on Gameboy, do I finally beat it after so many years?

It’s been a long time since I’ve beaten Mortal Kombat on Gameboy. Probably 25 years or so. I decide to tackle this absolute mess of a game ONE MORE TIME, and as hard as it is, do I finally defeat this terrible version? Watch and find out!

This was my first GameBoy game and holy hell it was difficult as a kid! I tried playing it again years later on a modded GB and the input lag was so horrible. It's crazy how you don't notice certain things as a kid but the character select theme just lives in my head for free even now!

This was my FIRST MK game. I was in 1st grade in 98. And every friday i had a spelling test. My mom told me if i get a 100 i can get a new game. 1 friday she bought dr mario and this. Then she recorded mk anihilation which was being shown on Starz/Encore. Been in love ever since with the franchise.

This brings me back to the early 90’s playing this version on my Game Boy on road trips to Florida on summer vacation. Ok…the graphics aren’t good and you only have 2 buttons to work with, but it’s better than those Tiger games lol.

It brought me back as well, I used to play this on road trips to Myrtle Beach, that was about a 20 hour drive from where I lived so I played it a lot. Yeah I am about your age. I had a gameboy when it came out. I think I was 13. Yeah you too had these stupid rules of sharing with your bro for video games? Yeah I feel you. For me it was 1 console, 1 handheld (cuz I guess my parents counted that as a seperate thing) I had to share both with my bro. Games only on Christmas & Birthdays. So you are talking maybe 10-15 games in a gen. For handheld maybe 3-5 games total. If you wanted to play like other systems maybe a Snes or Genesis depending, you had to go to friends houses for couch coop or vs. As a kid I was limited game time of 1 hour at other friends houses as a kid then it was go play outside.

The best version of Mortal Kombat to play vs the Computer is the Sega CD. It's basically the Genesis Version that is polished with more sounds, music & graphics to them. When you play this on very easy it is super easy. Unlike the Snes Version or the arcade versions which are Super hard even if you put it on very easy. The only thing that is bad is when Shang Sung morphs there is loading time when he does that. Other than he's really easy to beat. If you don't like that version then the Sega Genesis version is also very good.

I remember getting this for Christmas from my Mom when I was a kid. with the Gameboy she bought . Her, my Brother and I went down from Wahshngton State where I am from. We went up and down the West coast to Oregon and back. I had this game, Tetris and Metroid! I alternated. Almost chucking the Gameboy over the coast Lmao! I am so very happy I didn't throw it into the pacific ocean Lmao! It is so horrible... But having it when I wasn't home was a perk. Crazy from then, to now on graphics Ay?

This is how I played the first 3 MK games before I was able to get a SNES. Then my first game on SNES was Ultimate MK 3. And yes I know people like the Genesis games better but I was more of a Nintendo fan back then. I ended up having a Genesis as well when they got real cheap. I wouldn’t mind going back and playing these old game boy games sometime just for nostalgia.

For fighitng games on gameboy, try the king of fighters games, the world heroes games, battle arena toshinden, mortal kombat 2, and killer instinct. All of these games play very well.

I had this and thought it was great! I think it was the only version where you could play as Goro. After beating Shang Tsung and on the credits, hold upper left + select + B until it says "Goro lives... as you! Trying to go by memory though.

I had MK Game Boy as a teenager and played through jt many times. It may be one of the first games where the 'workarounds' are what help you win rather than playing well or being skilled. It has its very own exploits that you need to use to beat it.

With gameboy mortal kombat, if you play as goro via a code, you can do the stomp move that drains a lot of the computers life bar.

I had this game, and I loved it. I played the hell out of it. It was magic, regardless of the terrible graphics, controls, gameplay, lousy fatalities.... the first fighting game I owned, on the eve of getting a SNES.

Definitely unique port to say the least. For a special move you really have to see your char move the direction you pressed. A step back, stop, another step back, B for the fireball. A step back, stop, another step back, then a step forward for Raiden's superman. And the same goes for fatalities. Once you get used to how that feels, the game gets surprisingly easy. As for the Goro thing. If you got first hit in the round, all you needed for a flawless victory, is hold down + block. He'll go invisible and can't be hit. And yes. MK2 game boy was amazing. Everything after that, not so much. You should use the knee a bit more. It's a kick as close as you can get. It's the fastest move there is, and also the highest points. 5000 points if memory serves. And if you time it correctly you can loop it.

Do me a favor? When I was in my teens and mk2 was at a seven11, I played mk2 and did the pit2 fatality by accident..the green Liu Kang jumped off into the pit at the same time I knocked my opponent off. I have searched for years on youtube and internet and nothing about hornbuckle jumping off. See if you can find it. It may have been a glitch lol..but this has been haunting me forever lol

Hot take - I hated handheld games as a kid (when I was like 7 in 2001) games like pokemon were fine and Mario games that ment for Nintendo products. But games like MK holy moly I hated it even MK:A and UMK3 for the DS absolutely poo. I’m glad to see in my 31 years handheld gaming has advanced (ie steam deck) I can play full arcade games on the go I’m kinda rambling but yeah lol. This is an awesome video.

@@BushyStallion Nintendo and Sega war being what it was. I don't think they'd go for THAT sort of difference. Sega's handheld was way ahead of the gameboy. With the only drawback of it. It being a heavy unwieldy thing, eating batteries for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and pretty much everything in between. A full set lasting only a few hours at best. I really think it came down to the company making the Nintendo port, not being optimal with anything.
