No one better to take up the mantle then Geralt's Daughter. Thought I heard a while back originally, they weren't planning to use her. They were going to do everything from scratch with all new characters. I'm Glad they didn't I really liked Ciri in the Witcher 3. Her and Geralt had a beautiful relationship. I’m gonna start by saying that I liked Ciri as a character who is unique in her own right without being an actual Witcher. Trained by them, and with her own unique skills, but limited in true Witcher capability. So that said my initial reaction to this trailer first is I don’t want to play as ciri as that story is already concluded w/ Geralt. I expected to have separation from the previous installment with Geralt and his story . I’m well aware of her capability with being able to jump through time, and there are all kinds of justifications you could have for this and that, but she is tied to Geralt story in the same way that Robert Downey Jr. is tied to Tony Stark. You cannot separate them, it is established cemented in time. But just speaking specifically to this cinematic. It’s both very cool and worrisome . Again , I like Ciri but don’t want to return to the Witcher world playing as a chick as well as not a true Witcher. It would be like having a game where you storm the beach of Normandy in WW2, but you do so as a chick …. That just doesn’t feel right . Now They can make their justifications for their reasoning for her ,but that only speaks to my next reason why I don’t want ciri as the main protagonist. I want a fresh start approach that leaves the story of Geralt and its characters with their just perfect and thoughtful blood and wine ending with the dialogue of ‘ we’ve earned some rest ‘ as Geralt breaks the fourth wall and smiles to you the player ….. even the further ending with everyone around the table and making a toast to you the player with their finished story salute…. I can’t think of a better conclusion to that story/characters. A closing of one book while opening now a new book with a new chapter and a new school to meet all new characters with an all new experience. It feels like cdpr is falling into the trap like these other companies of using previously defined IP for the sake of a disingenuous safety net and end up messing with that predefined experience that shouldn’t be messed with. 🤦‍♂️ I mean, we had this new school of the lynx reveal and the confirmation that Geralt story was done. And with that story, you have the conclusion to all of these characters that are a part of his story. So the instinctual thought here is that the creative artist are taking us back into this predefined world to experience something new with a new story and new characters and a new school. So now this just feels like lazy manipulative brand IP recognition and disingenuous retconning for trendy modern Day narratives. It’s forcing something unnecessary that was already concluded for the sake of a shorter development/release window time? 🤷‍♂️Instead of just using this predefined world to create something new in it, you’re going to retcon and reuse predefined established characters in a different way🤦‍♂️ Last point I’ll make is for the sake of authenticity , this Witcher universe has a time And setting that has very established roles. Men have clearly defined roles as to the women. So for a female main protagonist, I would be more inclined to get behind the idea of being some witch or a sorceress as that would have authenticity. Ciri was a unique character and had a clear role as defined in the books as well. She was protected and trained by Witchers, but was not a true authentic Witcher and that was not her role. A Witcher is a clearly defined role for men . Small boys taken and put through dangerous life-threatening trials to be transformed into monster killing mutants that could never reproduce on their own. It is not a role for women as is clearly predefined from the source material itself. With the trial of grasses , men have a different biological hormonal composition than women as defined in the books . Which again just makes all this feel disingenuous n inauthentic. It is the old familiar corporate trap of resorting to retconning and reusing familiar pre-existing IP/characters like a safe security blanket. And what results from that is stagnation . It is the same result that we have seen with Disney Star Wars, but obviously we see this priority focus with many companies these days all fixated on the wrong priorities. Creative artistry that is authentic produces new originality. All characters that we know n love at one point or another were brand new, had no pre-existing foundation. And with Geralts story with all of its connected characters, having such a perfect closure and ending, now with this new school of the lynx would be the perfect time to explore new stories with new characters and a new experience. The world already has its pre-existing foundation, and the way you expand and grow this universe is going beyond what you currently have already explored. And that is not happening here.

As for how & why Ciri became a full witcheress. There are possible options. If player choose the witcheress ending, she did became a witcheress, travel together with Geralt & this is canon to the CDPR Witcher comics. however she didn't undergo witcher mutations like with cat eyes & potions resistance. This must have been happening in distant future. Whether it can or cannot happen, it's up to CDPR. Also she used the lynx medallion which didn't exist in the last timeline (witcher 3), this means a new witcher school has been established & things may have evolved beyond current lore. Other option would be this is a different Ciri in a different world or timeline. It's pretty wild theory but it can happen when the elder blood literally dabble in space & time stuffs. Other option would be Ciri came back from the finale portal but her powers has been nerfed, making her more "normal" to undergo trial of grasses. Although this would undermine her role as the queen of space & time & following her continued bloodline path aka her children that has been prophesied to save the world.

Ciri was already unique with her elder blood and the role she was to play, but she was protected by witchers , and trained by them, but she could never actually be one. The trial of grasses was specifically designed around men because they have biological hormonal compositions that are different from women. Which is why the Witcher would take small boys to put through these life-threatening trials that only a few would survive even at that. Being a Witcher was not a role for women or something they could even do. I like Ciri as a character, but this speaks to a disregard for the source material. Something the original team that created the previous Witcher trilogy did not do. They respected and followed the source material. This new current team is not doing that. They see a safety net with using ciri like a safe security blanket. She is brand recognizable so instead of using this pre-defined world and expanding it with their creative artist creating something new and original… They’re doing the corporate crap of just wanting to retcon and reuse/repurpose old familiar and established aspects/characters. It’s lazy and it is disingenuous /inauthentic. It’s the same bullshit that Netflix did with the Witcher. Women cannot drink Witcher potions because females cannot survive the Trial of the Grasses. Barely any males can. Ciri was trained briefly in combat by the Witchers at Kaer Morhen, but mostly because they had no idea how else to raise a child. They gave her herbs to enhance her strength, but they never gave her the mutagens. I say she was trained briefly because when she reached puberty, the guys similarly had no idea what to do with a teenage girl, and given that her uncontrolable magical powers started manifesting at the same time, Geralt asked Triss for help, but there wasn't much she could do either. She was then briefly taken in by Yenn and trained in magic, largely unsuccessfully. No more Witcher training. Ciri IS skilled in swordsmanship, as evidenced by her time surviving in the Rats, but she is neither a Witcher nor a Witch. She's Hen Ichaer, a universe-traveling elf-blood that is a conduit of raw magic, which is why she cannot use Witcher signs either despite repeated attempts to teach her. Perhaps even more importantly, after Geralt and Yenn's deaths, Ciri dips out of the entire Witcher universe and into that of Arthurian legend in disgust with her home world. She doesn't just leave the Continent, she leaves the entire damned setting. This is the lore of the books, I've not bothered to watch the show, but idk how you can read Lady of the Lake and even fathom this being Ciri's future.

All Adam is doing, is trying to justify a decision that he wants at the expense of the established lore . Not out of respect but to retcon instead . The original development team that created the previous Witcher trilogy respected that source material and worked with it. What Adam is doing is corporate reasoning, it’s familiar brand recognition safety net, it’s repurposing for selfish reasons that have nothing to do with the Witcher/this world. The reason why Cyberpunk released in the state that it was, were because of crunch by the investors to hurry up and release the game at said month Also, are we really ignoring Phantom Liberty? They already said that they're using what they learned for that expansion, and will use it for The Witcher 4 so it won't be super buggy

If we have to play as Ciri this is going to be such a bummer. Worst part of W3 was Ciri parts. Horizon ZD and FW are my favorite games, so I don’t mind a female protagonist. But Geralt is and always will be The Witcher. Rip Witcher 🥲 another franchise lost.

We also have important characters like Ciri whose path was just as important as Geralt. She was always a protagonist too and Geralt's destiny. The game set up her up to be a Witcher. She is the only thing that make sense to continue her story Also, alot of us wanting her to be a Witcher and the devs was planning this since development of Witcher 3. I'm sorry that dealing with Witcher characters, the game will still be called The Witcher cuz we're following Ciri as one. So now we're to be believed that in a short time, they've learnt how to successfully augment women. It's stated in lore that the Witcher process doesn't work for women, because no one's figured it out. Until the woke got a hold of it and now we'll see an entire female school. But no, they aren't Witcheress to imply they still have some femininity. No, they kept the name Witcher because a new IP name won't be as big.
