Thank you Lorrie ❤We received just less than $1000 which was so nice. State Farm refused to pay travel expenses to my husbands daughters home in Michigan and my items. The RV was covered and we had some odd renters insurance policy that covers Chris’ and the dogs contents. We did make it to Michigan this past Sunday. We don’t know how the fire started as there were no signs of trouble whatsoever. We’re thankful to be alive and healthy and have our little fur baby Jackie with us. We can buy more stuff. The things we can’t replace will always be in our hearts and on our minds. Chris’ Mom passed away last April. We had her ashes and a couple homemade quilts. When we got home our daughters gave us some of their quilts and aahes 😢Not all hero’s wear capes. It was so nice to meet you and for you to post this for us. ❤

We were coming out from South and saw it smoking under the hood. Unfortunately, there weren't extinguishers in the vehicle we were in. Otherwise, we might have been able to help. Our friends here are all planning to carry extinguishers in all their vehicles from now on. A heavy wire/cable cutter is also good to have for battery disconnection.

Just in case people are wondering about propane tanks in a fire. I worked in a research lab my whole life and got to watch another lab do a test. Propane tank was set on top of a fire. When the pressure reaches the max inside the tank it spews propane. The propane makes a flame like a blow torch. That's it. When the pressure goes down the pressure valve closes and the flame goes out. This is repeated over and over. No explosion. They also shot multiple propane tanks with an M16. Nothing happened. The one tank that did have something happen was an empty one with just fumes inside. It made a little thump sound and we think the tank expanded a little.

thanks for your input.. in this video they talk about seeing smoke in the engine, is where they say this all started

Ya a friend of mine worked at a propane wholesaler, he said pretty much the same, even shooting them, nothing happens. They're pretty stable.
@chasein70197 ай бұрын
@@annetreacy2437 We use to throw .22 bullets in the fireplace also. Just a pop. Here's an interesting thingie. If a propane tanker starts on fire with a gash in the side so it's really putting a flame out the fire department pretty much just has to let it burn. Foam if they have it but not something they keep around. If they sprayed water on the fire it would create steam which would raise the temp like 1,000,000,000 more (don't know real number). That would cause the whole tanker to explode. Propane out of the ground does not smell. They add the smell. It's like 1 ounce of this smell to 40,000 gallons. The smell is the smell of rotting beef. Something we are born with to avoid.
@chasein70196 ай бұрын
@@cacatr4495 Interesting. Never ever ever ever smelled sulfur. Not sure where you got that. Never smelled like rotting eggs either. That's the smell of a fart. I worked in a lab my whole life. We did non stop work on gas detection devices. I've been to many propane distribution centers where they added the smell. Smells like bad meat to me so I'm not sure what to say. The RV Pitt stop here in town also smells like rotting beef. The smell was put into a tanker truck pulling out to deliver. I'm pretty sure it was just 1 ounce for the WHOLE load. Maybe it's up to the distribution center to put whatever they want? Not sure. I have a very expensive hand held gas detection device that they gave me when I retired. Measures down to 1PPM. I don't think I've ever seen someone without a gas leak. Not a big one but their connections were not that tight.

This is a good heads up that every one should have a fire extinguisher in their rig. They start at around $20 for a small one. If you don't have one of those you should at least have a box or two of baking soda in an accessible location to throw on a fire. I put out a small toaster fire the other day with baking soda: it works! Engine fires and cooking fires. Be mindful of gas leaks etc.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers and good will. Chris and I are humbled by your care and appreciate each of your kind words. Yes. We have insurance, State Farm actually and they managed to weasel their way out of covering any of my things as well as any travel expenses to our daughters home in Michigan. My advice- make sure your a”RV” insurance covers contents. Apparently not all do, but hey, at least we have insurance. Our gofundme reached just under $1000. Thank you for everyone who donated or shared care, love, prayers, concern and wisdom. We miss our RV family in Arizona but did make it back to Michigan relatively unscathed.
