Hey Dawn, I too have had a pain in my hip and buttock on both the left and then on the right hand side. It went down into my lower ankle area. I guess we are not spring chickens any more.... There's a fantastic stretch you can do and boy oh boy it's a nice pain when you hit the spot but it really has helped me. I will try to find a video link with what helped. Thought I was going to need a new hip at one point ! Speedy recovery Mrs D D

Oh No, not you, I thought you were the fittest man on the planet!! Yours sounds like Sciatica :-( Have you been to a physio for it? I'm doing all the stretches and strengthening exercise everyday. Mine only seems to kick in after about an hour of walking and then at night, the pains terrible, like shin splints if youve ever had those.

@@DiggerDawn I had loads of jip with my left hip for months earlier in the year Dawn and the stretches worked it away and then no sooner had I felt good again, my right hip started to play up. It has never stopped me doing my activities but boy oh boy, it is a proper pain in the Ars# 😕 Keep the faith Dawn and I'm sure it will clear over time. I've still got my father's Detector and it would be great to meet up for a mooch in our local hills when the time is right Dawn. You might be able to show me a thing or two to add to my collection of bottle tops and pennies 😁

I do feel sorry, pain isn't conducive to fun. A suggestion though for the next time you're faced with this dilemma? Use your spade to scrape off the parts of your boots you can reach. It will lessen the weight, and you'll last a little longer...at least to get back to the car anyway before the pain gets too bad. Love you Dawn, you'll never be old. You're too beautiful of a soul. Feel better, heat and ice swapped out every 20 minutes.

I take ibuprofen with me, taken immediately it normally stops the problem within a few minutes and prevents the issue from flaring up into a vicious cycle. Most hip and back problems are muscular but always best to seek expert medical advice before taking any medicine in case there is another problem. I can get bad knee, hip and back pains but treated immediately like this it goes away completely. If I don’t do this it flares up badly and can last for weeks. Just my experience!

Metal detecting is really hard on the hips. It took me out for the last year. Wearing that heavy bag on your side to carry all the junk and swinging and swinging take a toll.

What comes to my mind often is how quickly I became middle-aged. I swear the time it took me from being 35 to 53 happened in a wink of an eye . Getting old is not for the faint of hearts. Good luck, and I hope you feel better .

Know how you feel Dawn.. I started having hip trouble this past year just had x-rays done and they said it’s mild arthritis in both hips. I take a dual action pain medication that’s over-the-counter and it helps quite a bit.
