Sumiyoshi Shrine, located in Ome-juku "Ome Village", was founded in June 1292 as the guardian deity of Mount Sumiyoshi during its long life, and later became the guardian deity of Ome Village on March 28, 1513 (Muromachi Period). Villagers carried out renovation work on the worship hall and other buildings, and to celebrate its completion many parishioners from the five towns planned and carried out a festival. This is said to be the beginning of the annual spring festival, which evolved into the current float parade festival.
The Ome Festival is held every year on May 2nd and 3rd. Traffic is restricted on Ome Kaido, and on May 2nd, floats are paraded mainly through each neighborhood, while on the 3rd, floats from all 12 neighborhoods are paraded along Ome Kaido.
