Nigel there's a reason that J-Hope is delegated as the Dance Leader. And yes you were spot on as far as their positions/roles in the group. Each one is vital and they all need each other to be complete.

You are 100 percent right. They all have a duty, and they stay in their lane, and respect the other person enough to actually stop and listen to what is being said and follow those directions. That’s why they work so well together, it’s not about one person, it is all of them. They rise and fall together. RM isn’t the oldest, but he is the leader. Age is a big deal in certain cultures, most of the other groups leaders are the oldest. Even though RM isn’t, the older ones respect his position, and listen. J-hope is the dance instructor along with their choreographer, but J-hope instructs A LOT! Suga produces the music, I know they all have a hand in it, but Suga is one of their main producers, but he also listens to the others and changes things for what they want, they all agree with it at the end. Jungkook’s role is the main vocalist, and the center of the group and he carries that duty out very well. Jimin is the lead vocalist and also pulls it off beautifully, he also has been described as the glue that kind of holds them together. Jin is the oldest, and with that duty he handles it beautifully! V has become part of the dance line, a directing lots of different things with his unique perspective. He has worked very hard at it, and you can see how much he has grown. Each member values the other members and they don’t try and outshine each other. I always find it amazing when I hear songs from them, each part they sing or rap fits them perfectly!!! That just shows you how much they take those things into consideration, and how much it matters to them. Because they want all members to be their best so they won’t throw something out that just because they want more lines or a bigger part, etc….. I really do love these guys.💜

RM once said that he is the leader when it comes to interviews and presenting the group as one to the media but the true leader of the group for him is SIR JUNG HOSEOK.

RM has called j-hope the second leader of BTS (he actually has used the term "real" and "actual" but that's just Joonie not giving himself enough credit). But performance is such an important part of what they do, I think it's important to give Hobi some significant due for his work. Jungkook said in their private life Hobi is the leader too. haha. He's just very naturally is organized and on time and on task and the first to show up and always meets deadlines and responds to texts. And then he's so good at the work of being an idol that Taehyun of TXT reported that BigHit uses "you have Hobi in you" to compliment people for doing well. When it comes to dance, Hobi is a literal national champion and prodigy. Combine his talent with his incredible stage sense and his attention to detail and he's a formidable resource for the group and a key contributor to the group's reputation as performance juggernauts. We owe him a lot.

He may be detail-oriented, but he also knows his members want nothing but the best performances and so what he does is help them get that. You will notice that he doesn't yell or anything. Just firm but tactful, and he praises them when they did well :) HIs kind nature is still there. He's also unofficially the second leader, as the members would put it. There should be a few videos on that, the recentmost would be Part 1 and Part 2 videos of 'How BTS relies on Hoseok as the second leader/pillar of BTS' by Sugarmyy. RM have previously answered a question and chose Jhope to be the leader if the leader wasn't him, I believe not only for his skills, but also his character, his ability to keep the group together. It's beautiful.

Before the pandemic, most of them would wear masks to hide their faces when they need a shave - except Jimin. You won't catch Jimin slacking. I think they shave frequently, more than once for the day when they have appearances and photoshoots and interviews. V always talks about the beard he's going to be sporting when they can finally stop trying to look young.

BTS is kinda more like a sport team with specific positions they play off field and on field. Less like a typical 'band'. BTS have always assigned roles - and while they weren't always good at it, they learned over the years to cover for each other weakness. So yes you're right, it's not a new thing, and they're well known for it - so I'm glad you figured it out! Jhope is a duel leader with namjoon with Jimin as a lieutenant almost? And then you have the rapline that helps everyone in composing and producing. Jin, V and JK do their own part in lyrics, singing and performance as well. So they all have roles.
