Historic passing. As of July 2022, the dormitory known as Scott Quadrangle, ( Scott Quad, in shorthand) is being demolished. It was very old, built at the beginning of the 1950s. It was unique because there aren't any other quadrangle buildings on OU's campus. In 1972 when I arrived at OU, it was old but serviceable, and it was a fun dorm to live in. In the 70s dorms hadn't embraced co-ed living yet. None of the dorms were set up that way, yet. In 1972 it was a males only dorm. There was nifty courtyard, that all the suites faced. It was a place to hang out in and party in, & smoke cigarettes. Back then almost none of the dorms had central air conditioning, students relied on window fans & open windows with cross-ventilation. The courtyard was a lively place as the students all had their windows open, so that their stereos could be heard outside.

Wish you had named the buildings. I was there from 1975 to 1979. Recognized most but not all. Too fast but still was a nice video.

Nice video! Was a student there 2004-2008. Such a beautiful multi-cultural oasis in the middle of Ohio.

Thanks for posting1 Can you tell me anything about the history of the building where the Office of Sustainability is located (in the old timber framed 2 story building?) When was it built? By who?

Class of 1976!..........Heady times,..1972 to 1976,.......The War in Vietnam was still raging, and the turbulent anti-war movement was in constant motion, the counter culture scene was in full swing. Recreational drugs were everywhere. Athens was in a time warp and it felt like it was still in the 60s, some places just blocks away, it was still the late 1950s. Old cars were abandoned in the weeds on the other side of the river. Slow moving trains circumvented the town, cutting off people and cars from easy movement. The only food people ate was pizza,....there weren't too many alternatives. Hippies were buying up cheap land in surrounding areas and setting up communes. Dorm rooms were transformed into dens of psychedelic experimentation, with their walls decked out in black-light reactive posters. The clap-trap of "head shops", included strobe lights, portable light shows & reflective beads, fake crystals, that dangled down beneath ceilings covered in surplus parachutes. There was an explosion of new ways to listen to music, the stereo revolution had begun. Drinking to wretched excess was well established, before my class year arrived. We piled on the drugs, from the mildly benign, to the insanely life changing. Yet somehow I survived and thrived. I found my niche, my people and my passion. No one was more surprised than myself, when I won a 3 year art scholarship, based on portfolios of new art I created and submitted. And equally uncanny, that I graduated with the honors, cum laude. Who would have believed that Athens which was in the middle of no where, was also simultaneously the nexus of everything.

I read though your comment and felt the same thing. Amazing how time flew by so fast and how things changed so much and so little in the meantime. Missing Athens.
