People criticizing her voice breaks very often. I say that's what makes it great. Her voice is so unique and it gives me chills every damn time.

The breaks are ONE aspect of what makes her great -- emotion. She has a superb sense of dynamics: pace, volume, intensity, etc.

This rendition of the song is so achingly beautiful, I have tears rolling down my cheeks as I'm typing. This was my favorite of all of her songs and she just took it to another planet. Exceptional, outstanding work! Some commenters prefer the AGT version - which was great, absolutely - but please let's remember that Grace is a creative artist and so we mustn't try to shoe-horn her into a little box or demand that she sound exactly the same, or the way we prefer, every time she sings; that would be so unfair to her. Our "job" as her audience is to appreciate her- not to insist that she adhere to our expectations.

At first I wasn't sure if I liked the direction of this version vs. the AGT one, but after hearing the expertly produced version here, this is, imo, much, MUCH better. It's so beautiful. I still love the twang and innocence of the uke version, but this is straight up a modern classic and timeless in all the right ways. Lovely Grace. Just lovely.

LYRICS- You think that you know my heart And you probably do It's why I'm always with you I could stay with you for hours In an empty room Never get bored Never have nothing to do You're my other half You're what makes me me What makes me smile When I fall down and can't get back, get back, get back up On my feet Without you here I am boring Something inside you is triggering It makes me myself It makes me funny You're a beautiful thing We're a beautiful thing together Even when the weather is low You're a beautiful thing We're a beautiful thing together Even when the weather is low We can find the rainbow Up in the sky You'd say don't you cry, it's all gonna be alright If we’ve ever gone though a fight oh that would be bad Cause you know all of my secrets But I know all of yours We make hours into seconds together The weight of the world feel like a feather Cause we're holding it right in our hands You're my other half What makes me me What makes me smile When I fall down and need to get back up on my feet Without you here I am boring Something inside you is triggering It makes me myself It makes me funny You're a beautiful thing We're a beautiful thing together Even when the weather is low You and me, together We’ll forget what we have been told We’ll live in our own dream world You and me, forever We’ll forget what we have been told We’ll take on the whole world Without you here I am boring Something inside you is triggering It makes me myself It makes me funny You're a beautiful thing We're a beautiful thing together Even when the weather is low That's a beautiful thing

If you know anyone who thinks Grace's voice is just raspy and croaky -- and nothing more -- have them listen to this cut. Her voice goes from delicate softness - almost a whisper - to a beautiful vibrato, a natural falsetto, to just belting it out with tremendous emotion and power, and of course and some raspiness, too. There's very few veteran singers who can do all this. It's like her voice is an additional instrument... I mean in besides carrying the melody, she has a whole range of different textures and styles she can sing. And of course she's performing songs that SHE wrote, composed, did the lyrics, etc.

This song in particular and the piano ballad that was wonderfully put together brings the strongest emotions because of the universal lyrics, despite the song being written for her sister. Nadir Ahmed I think they described her as Taylor swift because she has written many many songs that are assumed to be "original" and it impacts many many young girls and caused a fandom. Grace has the potential to do that HOWEVER.. I don't agree with Taylor swift. She can't dance, she lip syncs at concerts, and she's only famous because her daddy and grandaddy and so forth were rich bankers. Also she blames men for all her problems when clearly she's the common denominator. Grace has the potential to create a fandom based off real skill she built up herself. She will affect so many young girls in a positive way. She is WAY better than Taylor swift already and I hope she continues to do wonders.

The original version that Grace performed on AGT was very upbeat, it was the song that confirmed her place as the most talented contestant for 2016. This version is so astonishingly beautiful, but I sense a tinge of melancholy in its presentation, as if she had lost that special person she was singing about. It's just my opinion, and I do believe that this song will gain a lot of attention; one day it will be a standard for up and coming singers who compete on nationally televised talent shows.

this song....my older sister passed away in January and we played this for her viewing and funeral and I just want to express how beautiful this song is and how much I cry even when I just hear the beginning.. It really reminds me of me and my sisters relationship.. and how it Is without her I can't explain how much emotion I feel when I hear this song your a true blessing and im so happy that you can have such a big effect in peoples lives my sister loved music..and we saw this song in one of her playlists...

wow, i´m so sorry... I literally cried reading your commentary. Your sister had a very good musical taste...I think music can explain things that words can´t, and it´s a clear example... Be strong. I send you strength wherever you are, you and your sister... (sorry for my bad english)

This song truly hits home for me. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and it used to be really strong in my life. But last September, something changed. I transferred to a new school, and I am so glad I did. Just on my first day, I met one of the few girls who would later make a huge difference in my life. It started out by simply needing somewhere to sit in the Cafeteria, and blossomed into a beautiful friendship that will probably last a lifetime. And that, my friends, is a beautiful thing.

As I have said many times, take her voice out of the equation, and it loses 75% of what makes it so beautiful, and yet, it is still the most beautiful song ever written.

My best friend sent me this two years ago. She even gave me a heart-shaped rock with a few of this song's lyrics. She recently transferred, and she isn't allowed to have social media so our means of communication are small and I've been watching and listening every thing she's ever recommended me these past few years.

Grace is one of the most beautiful things ever. It even feels wrong to describe her with the word "beautiful" because she is so much more and she really shows that in her music, making it so easy for anyone to just sink into her words and enjoy them. I only discovered Grace a couple of months ago and she has already inspired me more that any other singer I have known in my lifetime. Learning & listening to her music is helping get through these tough times. There are only a few words I can use to really describe her properly those words would be: completely herself. She isn't Taylor Swift or Sia, she is the perfectly imperfect Grace VanderWaal. And that alone is one of the most beautiful things, this leads me to only three more words I have left to say. I. Love. Grace.

Seriously, how does a 12-year-old write the most beautiful song ever written? This is crazy, this shouldn't be possible, but the proof is right before our ears. She is so amazing, and to think, all of her songs are so incredible, it's unreal. There's so many amazing singers out there, and song writers, but this girl, this amazing young girl, trumps them all, how? I don't really care, she is amazing, and I'm all for it, and I'm not alone here when I say, she is the best, period.

All too often unfortunately young people are not taking seriously. Of course they still have growing and maturing to do but that doesn't mean their thought, talents, ideas, etc should be discarded. I'm glad some people gave her a chance. Honestly this is the first time I've heard her and didn't know she was so young either!

Grace, you are a gift and those judges were right when they said everyone would know your name because your name out of all the hundreds of auditions I've watched has truly been the most memorable and the only one I've continued to follow up on. Stay true to you and please don't ever lose yourself in the nature, structure and 'bizarre'ness' of the entertainment business. You're beautiful, that's what you are!
