Preds fan here. Still hasn't really hit me just how much better the team is. The team got so much better in a matter of a couple hours. The next two or three years are going to be a lot of fun.

​@@JD200_ Biggest loss is probably McDonagh but Skjei more than makes up for that. Other than him, numbers 2 thru 5 are probably Jason Zucker (deadline acquisition who was okay in the regular season and pretty good in the playoffs), Kiefer Sherwood (super underrated bottom six guy), Kevin Lankinen (backup goalie who was very good for the Preds), and either Anthony Beauvillier or Tyson Barrie (both shells of what they once were). So, uh, yeah, Stamkos and Marchessault are upgrades over what was lost.

Honestly, the best deal of the day might be the Juraj Slafkovsky extension for 8 year at 7,6 millions...which mean he will be signed until he's 29 to that core ! The first line of Montréal is signed long term under 25 millions...It's fantastic ! Imagine that core of Suzuki, Caufield and Slafkovsky with Demidov, healthy Dach, Newhook, Hutson and Reinbacher in the future...It's a good day in Montréal !

The Chychrun trade is just such a good deal for the Caps. I like Nick Jensen, he’s been a good player for us and he will be missed, but overall it was a small price to pay for a lot of potential upside. There isn’t really even much downside, if the Caps are out of it and he seems unlikely to re-sign, they can flip him at the deadline. Great trade, the Caps blue line seems so much more solid than it was to start the offseason

I was shocked to see the return im a caps fan too and was hoping to see us not give up too much for chych but to see it cost Jensen and a 3rd I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Jensen has been good for the caps but I think this season it started to become very evident that the decline was starting. Saw a tweet this morning that a lot of nhl gms are baffled by the move, I don’t think the senators played this one correctly at all.

As a Seattle fan I am so excited right now, the Dunn and Mountour pairing is super exciting and I can’t wait to watch it, however, in base of terms for both Stephenson and Mountour can easily blow up in our faces and I am begging it doesn’t happen soon, and if we’re being realistic that Stephenson contract is just not good sure you can argue it has fair value (for maybe 1-3 years if that was offered) but for 7 years! This is waiting to blow up in our faces sooner than later

Kraken are taking risks signing those big contracts, but they want to keep building their fanbase with playoff wins and not rebuild immediately after entering the league. Sharks' contracts are a bit large for the value but bodies are bodies. Nashville and Boston are both committing to "Now or Never" teambuilding, trying to see if they can win a cup before they have to go full rebuild. Oilers look like a Presidents' Trophy squad with what may be the best top six in the LEAGUE.

I also like to complain about the playoff salary cap nonsense. Which would be an easy fix, each team can only dress players to match the cap. If you have to healthy scratch a $4m player, that's on the team for abusing the cap.

Imo, if they can dump ceci, and possibly move Evander kane, they'll be getting a good amount of cap space, but if they cab get another defensive player like ekholm, and another well rounded it'll be a wrap for the rest of the league imo.

12:45 due to his age at time of signing he can retire with no penalty towards the cap. Likely why they stretched out the length. My guess is that tanev will play 2-3 yrs then retire, if he hasn’t made it to LTIR of course

Panthers paid the Cup Tax as everyone does. Sad to see many of them go, glad it was just a couple guys going to the Leafs that were one-year guys on the Cats, while all my favorites went out West so I'm glad I don't have to hate them (actually really like Seattle). REALLY sad to see Stenlund go, and of course Lomberg as well. That said, with the signings they've made since outside of Reinhart, I feel they might be trying to keep Tarasenko, one of the few "big" names to not sign yet. He apparently also just bought a Miami condo.

Im so glad the Sens have finally started to prioritze depth instead the flashy scoring players they used to target under PD. The dcore looks more solid defensively with Jensen being a bwtter fit than Chychrun. The bottom also looks much improved with the Perron, Amadio, and Gregor contract providing way better depth than the Sens have had in years

100% agree. PD used to grab flashy players on occasiion (Duchene, DeBrincat, Chychrun) and just hope everyone would fit in. In ADB's case, I believe it would have been fine / workable. However, Staios is now making depth moves while ensuring the Sens don't eat cap, draft picks and term unnecessarily at obscene levels. The player most happiest is likely Ullmark and it is possible he re-signs should the season look promising by mid-January. We will see of course.

Im not happy with the return for Chychrun but it just wasnt going to work here and Jensen fits better even though Chychrun has more value for obvious reasons. At this point Staios is just trying to clean up Dorions eager mives that havent worked and aged well and given the Sens had minimal leverage I think he did ok on the return its still an L for the organization. The DeBrincat trade funnily enough gave the Sens the main piece for the Ullmark trade so in the end the ADB trade actually looks solid for the Sens

Yzerman seems to be hiring greybeards now, which if we look back at the 90's Stanley cup era red Wing successes, There is definitely a pattern to what he is doing right now. Of all the ridiculous transactions so far, I am happy that at least one of my predictions came true. Campbell signed with Detroit. Unfortunately they ALSO signed Cam Talbot so immediately there is a goaltender situation going on. Im losing faith in the Yzerplan now. I think I expected too much and now am being let down.

The Stanley Cup Champs Florida Panthers have done a solid job replenishing their bottom 6 depth and addressing their 3 string goaltending. A Top 4 D would be the finishing piece

Bruins fan and loved the 3 moves, max jones could have a resurgence with Boston, we have been known to do that, Boston usually gets the most out players, he’ll also be on a youth line, that’ll be good for him, got one of the best centres and one of the best dman that was FA, we have them a little longer term but overall our team is a lot better and imo Tampa and Florida got worse than last year

Honestly thought the Marchessault term was a bit long, he’ll be 34 by the end of the Calendar year, meaning he’ll be 38 by the time it’s up. And not many forwards are super productive at age 38, and it’s not like he has much of an injury history to suggest LTIR cop out

One thing I'll note is not being quite so sure about the Brodie signing for Chicago. Brodie fell off pretty hard this year. It's only a 2 year deal so it's not going to really burn them. But he's probably going to be more of a bottom pairing guy going forward in his career.

Lotta familiar faces gone in Carolina. Gonna miss Guentzel and the former core but I can’t be too disappointed with today considering the bargains we signed Walker/Gostisbehere to and the absurd hometown discount Slavin got. We’re probably in for a down-ish retool year but there’s a lot of young talent in the pipeline (Morrow, Nadeau, Blake, Unger-Sorum, with Nikishin coming next summer) and for once there’s actually gonna be space for them in the lineup
