Lake Ohrid or Охридско Езеро (4K Drone Aerial 2024) is a mountainous lake in North Macedonia and Albania. The lake has more than 200 species and a few towns at its shores like Strega and Ohrid in North Macedonia and Pogradec in Albania. There is also a reconstruction of an ancient settlement at the lake, museum ''The Bay of Bones". The lake is since 1972 a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Ohrid is the most important town of the lake with a population of 40,000.
The city of Ohrid was founded by the Greeks who originally called their city Λυχνίς (Lychnis or Lychnida). There are still many remains of the the ancient city in the centre of the city known as Plaoshnik with the foundation of the temple and the Greek Amphitheatre. During the Byzantine Empire in the Middle Ages, the city was known as Achrida (Ἄχριδα) or Ochrida (Οχρίδα). In the city and around the lake of Ohrid there are multiple medieval Byzantine Churches and Monasteries like Saint Naum Monastery, the Archbishopric, the Church of Holy Mary Peryvleptos, the Church of Demetrius, the Church of Saints Clement and Panteleimon and the Church of Saint Sophia.
