Just wanted to say thank you. It's 930pm here and cold as heck. Furnace has been running like crap and finally stopped working altogether. Your video helped me get my igniter set and cleaned the nozzle and it's back running good.

Back in the 70’s I was in the Air Force in northern Maine and worked in the heat shop. Everything was oil fired back then, boilers and warm air. We spent most of the summers cleaning and PM’ ing. The heating system for the base grade school and a few other bigger buildings used a big rotary type main burner, with a .75 gph gun type burner as a pilot. I think it was about 1990 before the Bunker C smell left my body.😄 Your oil burner videos bring back good memories.

Can u believe that you made this video 8yrs ago & you just helped me out BIG TIME! 1/8", 1/8", &1/2" now I'll never forget it Thank you...now if I can just figure out y my Beckett oil pump keeps stopping or flowing? Oil pump is only 1yr old & furnace shut off so I figured I'd just make sure it's getting oil & it does come out of the bleeder valve for a few seconds then nothing? I'll let it sit for a few minutes & again it acts like it's going to give me a good flow but then flow completely just fades away? But hay I'll figure it out.

@@Gunma_garage I had the original style felt filter with the metal mesh center cylinder and when I replaced it, I also noticed it had rust particles and chunks due to contact with stray water in the heating oil which was bound to happen in a 40+ yr tank. So I switched to the newer style white fiber filter which fit perfectly and has no metal parts that will rust.

Good video. I wish people would pay more attention to servicing the electrodes. We replaced them on every annual service, as I have seen a lot of bad delayed ignitions from electrodes that looked good but had hair line crack or pits in the porcelain that shorted the spark to ground intermittently.

You were helpful. I saw that your new electrodes have points ground on the ends. Mine were burnt off. I ground new points with a conical mounted stone in the drill press. A block of wood with a 3/32 hole drilled horizontally guided the electrode as the stone ground the point. The electrodes had to be bent because they were now too short. It all worked out fine. Thanks for the video.

Great Video, Well Done. Been on the nozzle - electrode rodeo ride many times in 40+ yrs. Often finding undersized nozzles via homeowner penny pitching. In many areas homeowners seek budget fuel from bulk carriers lacking service contacts, sometimes they receive cocktailed oil #4 - #2 mix. #4 oil still around, #6 totally gone. "Todd" rotary cup burners almost extinct. Myself as LMP having oil, pay my provider for service contact as insurance when I'm out of town. Wife calls - they run, service guy always gets a $50 tip, no matter what. Once my oil guy [good friend] came to set a few mouse traps, wife was standing on a chair freaking out when I was out of town. Thereafter got a cat from the shelter.

Curious about something. is the 1/8th" gap separation written in stone? I just did my furnace and the gap is a bit wider. The furnace starts up smooth and the flame looks good inside. Seems to run really well, but if the gap is an issue I'll pull it out and change it. Otherwise I'll just run it.
@KeithSpecialtyStore

The 1/8" gap is only a rule of thumb. Each heating system can vary and you should use the instructions for it. Since it is running good, leave it the way you have it.

When my Igniter Failed, I had fuel leaking out the bottom of the Housing on my Heated Pressure washer. The Burner works well now, but when it fires up, I get a steady drip drip drip of fuel out the bottom. The drip stops as soon as I shut off the pressure washer wand and the flame goes out. I cannot find the source of the leak. I have read that some techs replace the internal insulation in the Heater body -- Is that a possible source of this Dripping? What else should I look for or replace? This is a 3 year old burner that has probably only been used for a hour or two TOTAL.

Not necessarily, could cost you more money, you want the proper size nozzle for your house/furnace, a smaller nozzle will just make the furnace run longer and if not set up or rated for your furnace will just soot it up and make a mess and possibly ice up and destroy your chimney. Best way to save on fuel is to have your furnace cleaned and maintained annually by a qualified technician with proper analyzing tools.
@mrdanforth3744
@mrdanforth3744 6 жыл бұрын
If you use a smaller nozzle you must adjust the air for proper combustion. The result will be that the furnace must run longer to produce the same amount of heat. And if you get really cold weather it may not be able to keep up. The whole furnace system must be sized and adjusted to suit your needs. A smaller nozzle won't necessarily save anything if you have to burn the same amount of oil for the same amount of heat. It will just take longer to warm the house.

You can try to adjust them to spec and you might be able to get them close enough, or you can get new electrodes for ~$15

The electrodes should be squared off just like they come from the factory....Measuring gap is edge to edge and height above the center of nozzle is to edge of electrodes

You didn’t use the electrode gauge correctly when you set the 1/2 inch above the nozzle at 4:24. The center mark on the gauge lines up with the center of the nozzle. You used one of the outer lines on the center of the nozzle. The gauge also shows the distance ahead when you use the gauge, so you don’t need a separate ruler. If you look at your video at 4:24 you can read the gauge. The electrodes always line up on the + marks which show the proper position of the electrodes.
