I also have a 21 crosstrek limited. Bought it used back in September. Had it for 5 months and 1 week. I only drive it like twice per week when I don’t have work. Should I do an oil change every 6 months or once a year?

Hello!! That’s awesome. I’m glad you got the Crosstrek.. they are great vehicles! I love the new Outbacks too 🤘 I would base it mainly off of your mileage first. I generally do my oil changes at every 5,000 miles but I tend to hit that around every 6 months or less either way. It also depends on what kind of driving/ idling/ towing and weather conditions the car is going through. If you don’t drive much with less than 5-6k within those 6 months, it’s definitely a peace of mind to change the oil to avoid the possibility of moisture build up at that point. 🤘

@@Guadsquad1 The previous owner got the mileage to 6,100. I think it’s likely a lease vehicle that’s returned to the Subaru dealership. After I bought it, from September to now, I got the mileage up to 7,086. I’m from NYC and when I do drive I idle at red lights briefly. Sometimes I go on the highway following the GPS on google maps which goes anywhere from 40 mph to 60 mph while driving in the city. I don’t do any towing, I mostly just drive it to Costco or HMart to pick up groceries and drive to gym on my day off from work. This is my first car and I’m still learning how to take care of of the car.

Gotcha! That gives me a better understanding. If you’re idling and getting your vehicle warmed up well on those drives often enough then you should be good to just go based off of that 5,000-6,000 mile oil change interval with Synthetic oil. I love that! Congrats on your first car. It’s good to see folks wanting to keep their cars going and maintained well 🙌 Are you planning to take your car in or DIY for maintenance?

@@Guadsquad1 I would love to DIY but because I live in a apartment in the city, I don't have storage space for any large equipment(such as a pair of car ramps) so I plan to take it in for maintenance. I can do simple maintenance such as inflating/deflating air on tires, change wipers, and buy a funnel to top off fluids. But anything that requires me to lift up the car to do like tire rotation, change brakes calipers, oil change and etc. I won't be able to do.

@@JackieJea Ahh ok understandable and not a bad thing either! 🤘 Your engine air filter and cabin air filter are pretty easy to knock out from home too. Btw thank you for checking out my video and commenting!
