You didn’t rub oil around the O ring of the new filter :( Also ALWAYS very the old o ring comes off with the old filter or you will be left with a mess and no oil in the car :D

Doesn't really need to if you don't over torque the filter or leave it on for too long. Ther filter housing has left over oil on the filter mating surface

ONLY hand tighten the filter and fill the filter at least half way up and rub oil around o'ring.

You forgot to say to take off your oil fill cap before you drain the oil so it can go fast and you didn’t pre fill your oil filter

Thanks for the oil cap trick. After some reading, including on the forums of Camaro5, pre-filling isn't a necessity. The observable difference of pre-filling or not isn't noticeable on these Camaros.

@@dirtyaznstyle4156 it’s a necessity on almost every oil change. If you can do it, then you should. If you do not pre fill the oil filter you will run the engine dry until the filter fills up. It’s not a huge difference but why deprive the engine of oil at all if you can help it. Some engines the oil filters are sideways or even upright, those are the exceptions. - Genuine ASE certified mechanic.

Everyone talking about prefilling the oil filter.... here's some fun information. When manufacturers are doing lifecycle testing during R&D they do NOT prefill the oil filters while testing those engines that run for 300k+ miles in the lab.

Good video bro. If you don’t mind I would like to add a few tips and tricks. I always go with what GM recommends which is 8.03 Quarts every 7500 miles/12 months. I lube the seal on the new filter (Napa Gold, WIX, AC Delco). I use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic 5w-30 with 2 Dexos which is also what GM recommends. Tighten the drain plug to 18 FT LBS which is recommended by GM. I always fill my oil filter up with oil, and screw it on and hand tighten. You should never use a tool to tighten your oil filter as those filter tools are only used to loosen, only. You should always tighten the filter with your hands as tight as you can by hand. Due to GM recommending 8.03 quarts = 8 quarts in the engine and .03 in the new filter. We have the advantage of having a vertical positioned oil filter which means it only takes an extra 10 seconds to fill the filter up with oil and not taking any risks of having a dry filter for a few seconds which could put undue wear on the crank bearings not having sufficient oil for a very short period. I look at it this way. Would I want my engine not having oil for 1,000 seconds? What about 1 second? The answer is never. Love the car bro. And the videos.

How long does it take if the filter isn’t primed to get oil to the filter? Doesn’t really matter because there is an oil film that coats internal parts. You think all the old oil drains out of the crank bearings and rod journals etc? So oil goes from the pan straight to the filter and the filter is dry for a second, do you check if your anti drainback valve is functioning before you start the car? That’s what keeps oil in the engine after you shut it down. Just fyi 1/4-1/2 of a turn past making contact with the flange might be as tight as you can get it by hand but that’s what it says on the oil filter box. I also doubt you fill your filter with .03 quarts of oil, .3 might be believable but in reality it’s prolly more like .5 quarts or more.

Mobil 1 5w30 regular synthetic is a mediocre oil at best. Mobil 1 0w40 European formula in LS and LT engines is a fantastic fit though. Actual viscosity is closer to the viscosity of the top of the line 5w30 oils.

Prime filter, oil the filter o ring. And always always most importantly check your oil level after starting the motor. Oil should be a bit below top of safe mark. To compensate for the oil in the top of the motor that will drain down.

Pre-filling the oil filter is not necessary and has been mythbusted countless times. Only need to coat it to get a better seal. He definitely shouldn't have tightened that filter more than by hand, though.

@Scythecleff You're wrong. Prefilling the filter absolutely reduces wear by reducing the time it takes to get oil to the bearings. When your oiling system has air in it (empty filter) you aren't building any oil pressure until it fills up, which takes time, which means during that time your bearings are completely starved during the most crucial time - engine startup. In the case of engines that have horizontal or upside-down filters that can't be easily pre-filled, disconnecting the injector harness is a good way to fill the filter on the engine without it firing (since merely cranking the engine over only exerts compression forces on the bearings, not combustion forces of a firing cylinder, which are orders of magnitude higher). Let me direct your attention to someone who actually knows his shit (he's a tribologist) and actually tested it on a real engine, with real oil analysis samples and guages: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2SciIebpNd1pLM

Always pour some oil in the filter since it's already vertical and won't spill out. It helps prime oil for less of a dry start.

Generally you should open the oil cap when doing oil changes so when the oil is draining the negative space is filled with air from the oil cap instead of air through the drain plug.

U should take off oil cap, lossen the plug take off plug, take off oil filter in the process of draining out the pan wipe up off the oil residue on the pain put new oil filter on than tighten drain plug than add oil in the car start the car let it run, raise RPMs check for any leaks. Than turn off car lower car and that’s how u do a oil change

No, it's not a Hyundai 😛 8 quarts of oil in the pan vs 2 oz in the filter. The lifters are covered in oil. The half second added delay in squirting oil at the lifters is not going to damage anything.

I have seen numerous engineering videos explaining why one SHOULD prefill it, the main reason because it REDUCES WEAR experienced until the filter does fill. What would be the DISADVANTAGE to filling it? There is none, except the fact that a clumsy person may spill a little oil if they're not careful.
