Well, that would explain it. I've looked all over trying to find the source of my oil leak. I think you found it for me.

Interesting video and probably the only one of its kind that involves the first generation Azera. My question is that you said this is the first time you ever seen an oil cooler leak. So i imagine it's not very common. However, i know with the Hyundai Santa Fes, the Kia Sorentos, and the Hyundai Sonatas with the V6 and a couple cases for the second generation Azeras, but most commonly with the Santa Fes with the V6, there is a problem with failing oil pressure switches, which also end up flooding the "valley" with oil and probably causing leaks in a similar location. Is there any easy way to tell if a leak is from the oil pressure switch or the oil cooler?

I doing this on a Santa Fes now.. I was hoping it would slide out!

Any way you can show, or explain how you got the oil cooler out? I have all the bolts out of it, but something is still holding it

Good afternoon, thanks for your video !!! This is a very serious job. I still do not understand where the oil comes from. I changed new gaskets 2 times, but the master put a sealant on them and there was still an oil leak. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the sealant interfered with the seal of the joint, I do not know. In total, I bought a new case complete with new gaskets and wait for it to be installed. Perhaps you will advise me something before installing it. Thanks in advance Serg

The hyundai dealer told me one of the green filter housing O ring gaskets is only available with the housing itself which costs about $600.

Also applies to 2012 Hyundai Veracruz. $70 knock sensor = $1K job... thanks Hyundai! Seriously, thank you for the video. Did you drain anything? Oil or coolant or just manage the minor spills? Maybe you can append "Veracruz" to it as well for easier find?

Where did you find and buy the 2 green O ring gaskets underneath the oil filter housing ?

Excellent video, James. Same car, similar problem: smell of "hot" engine, burnt oil odor in cabin, and oil spots on floor. Hard-to-locate oil leak. I have a couple questions for you. 1) I'm curious how you determined the oil cooler was the source of the leak without first confirming your suspicion with a UV test after you cleaned the engine. Can you explain? I'm genuinely interested what convinced you the oil was coming from the oil cooler rather than, say, the cylinder (valve) covers. 2) How did you get the oil out of the valley under the lower intake? 3) In addition to the knock sensor, did you also replace all the intake manifold gaskets?
@AppalachianDIY6 жыл бұрын
Ive been doing this for along time, for a living. While UV dye might be helpful on occasion, it's typically not necessary. Once the suspected area has been cleaned, the leak will be easier to spot. In the case of this Hyundai, where the oil was coming from, there was only 2 possibilities: oil cooler or head gaskets. Valve covers are higher, and the leak started much lower. It is pretty unlikely to see an oil leak, especially one so massive, at the head gasket. So that just leaves the cooler. As far as cleaning goes, I always use brake cleaner and compressed air. In the valley you can use a fluid extractor to get the oil puddle. Then brake cleaner. Then compressed air to blow everything out. This was a long time ago, but I believe the intake gaskets were replaced.

2 weeks ago my friend serviced the AC on my car. Two days later, I now have a terrible oil leak. Is it possible that he messed up the sensor or the oil cooler?

Hi, so 1. there are two of knock sensors? 2. two oil cooler housing? at the video showing at a oil cooler housing needs one round gasket & a square gasket !? and can you up load a video how to replace oil control valve, showing location of left & right ones thank you an advance
@AppalachianDIY7 жыл бұрын
Yes there are 2 knock sensors. There is one long metal piece for the oil cooler housing, but it has several gaskets. They come in a set I'm sure.

I'm trying to do the same thing now the oil cooler wont come off with all the top bolts removed. Do you have to remove all the cooling parts going into the engine too? The oil cooler does not just lift straight up?

Good morning, I'm from Brazil and I have a problem with my 2010/2011 Hyundai Azera 3.3 V6. The obd2 shows the code P0330 (knock sensor). Could you tell me if this sensor location is at the same place as the 3.8?

hi, i have d same problem on my car .i already replaced the oil cooler assy.and still there is oil coming out on that side. it can be possible that my head gasket is leaking?
@AppalachianDIY8 жыл бұрын
Yes it is possible, but it is more likely that the oil cooler seal slipped off during installation. The seal should be glued with weather strip adhesive. And even then, you have to be very careful so it doesn't slip out
