Do you ever change the little washer under the bolt when changing the oil filter? I've had trouble with them in the past leaking and sucking air.

i think Beckett is the most oil burner in common and is preferred. the older style Beckett burner not sure on parts interchangability with Carlin and Beckett burners. but they keep a lick and keep on ticking with upkeep maintence. as this one its a well cared for water heater. as oil fired appliances are common on islands, and in very rural areas.
@erikj.20665 жыл бұрын
Some of the common parts are interchangeable, like the motor, pump, nozzles, cad cell, and relay. The rest is usually specific to make and model.

Steven I have been watching your Videos for a number of years and been entertained by them and learned from you , I do not work on Oil burners for a Living But i was trained to fix them by a guy who had many years experience and his approach at fixing burners was much like yours You are certainly not a Hack, I can tell you are genuine and are looking out for the safety and comfort of your customers , and giving them the best deal , I bought my parents old house several years back and I have an older Bock 32e with a Wayne Burner , the unit was manufactured February 1992 , and its still making hot water today , the most awesome part other than nozzles and filters , the only thing thats been replaced on it was about 2 years ago the old Ignition Transformer finally Crapped out , other than that its all original , sadly though it suffered damage a number of years ago from an old leaky pipe above the unit which saturated the Insulation the bottom pan is pretty much rotting out on mine and i recently removed the top cover and looked at the tank also and although it does not leak yet its gonna fail sooner than later , i think i will contact my local dealer and purchase the tank only and keep my burner and controls as they seem to still work good Keep up the good work !

People seem to use a lot more hot water than 50 years ago. 40 gallons was a big heater then. We had a 30 for a family of 6.

Clean oil=clean tank=clean filter. Also ultra low sulfur diesel helps. Service people said they could tell my customers because we were one of the first to use ultra low sulfur for ALL off road applications and it's much cleaner. I also like the Beckett's. Old AF and AFGs could not be beat. Also some good Wayne's still out there too.
@Fireship15 жыл бұрын
Old filter really did look like new. The oil now is much cleaner than years ago. The nozzle is the most critical part. I’d change that every year and just check oil flow to confirm the filter and strainer are good.

Is it possible to do some modifications/upgrades/enhancements for not changing the nozzle "all the time" ? what is causing the nozzle to fail in the first time? Maybe put on some kind of a finer filter after the oil tank filter? Maybe some sort of coating on the nozzle from the manufactuer?

Not really a fan of those oil fired water heaters, worked for a summer place that used one of them. Of course winter would come and they would shut it down and it would sit in a damp basement all winter drained. They got about 3-5 years out of them before they rotted out. Like you said, you are pretty much hosed of they get packed up with soot. Junk. Tried to talk them in to a cast iron boiler with an indirect water heater but they didn't like the price but were OK buying a new water heater every couple years. Can't fix stupid.

Do you live in the country? In the city where I live I've never seen oil fired anything. Especially hot water tank.

You’re looking at living in New England, where natural gas isn’t available everywhere, and propane and electric are your most expensive options.

Some of your methods may appear 'cringeworthy' to some but, as in everything, results are what count. If you're fixing the issues, not experiencing too many 'call-backs' and most importantly: getting paid? Hack shmack, who gives a shit, eh?? lol
