Deep-Fried Butter | 버터 튀김
Did you know that deep-fried butter is a thing?
I thought it was a joke but apparently it's often served at fairs in the US.
America... Why...?
Probably the unhealthiest guilty food there is...
Tastes like a very buttery doughnut but there's just way too much 'guilt' for it to be enjoyable IMO.
Ingredients:
Butter: 1 Block (250g)
Egg: 1
Milk: 16 Tbsp
Oil: ?
Flour: 18 Tbsp
Baking Powder: 2 tsp
Sugar: 3 Tbsp
Cinnamon Powder: 2tsp
Honey: ?

My friends and I went to a county fair that was serving deep fried sticks of butter. We decided to buy one for all six of us to share, just for the joke of it. I am telling you, the overall mood of our group went down SO fast. We were laughing and joking when we first got it, and by the time we finished we were just... sad. None of us had more than three bites but somehow it just depressed all of us instantly. I can't imagine anyone eating a whole stick by themselves, even once.

As an American I feel I should clarify that deep fried butter is a "joke food." We know how we're perceived, we know that there's a KERNEL of truth to the stereotype (we do like butter, and we do deep fry things sometimes), so "deep fried butter" is kind of a way to embrace that stereotype and then satirize it even further. It's us making fun of ourselves, basically. I need to point out, though... this is not something you see at every fair. In fact, I've been to many fairs over the years and I've only ever seen it once. Did I try it? Yes. I ate it for the express purpose of being able to tell people that I'd had it - that I was "in on the joke." It was disgusting and I would never eat more than one. And that's generally the experience I've heard most people have with it. The idea of trying to eat SIXTEEN is horrifying. I mean, Jesus, are you okay? You're supposed to eat one and spit it out and then have a good laugh about it!

Story Time So I did this fried butter thing accidentally when I made a stuffed onion rings. I mix the butter with mascarpone and cream cheese. I stuffed the onions and put it in the freezer so it can solidify. After that I coated the onions with classic flour - egg - breadcrumbs and then fry it. It only took like 30 seconds before I realized that the butter will melt during frying. While the mascarpone and the cream cheese were safe, the butter melted and made the oil so dirty because of it. Worse, it caused this unpleasant heavy taste to these stuffed onion rings and made me unable to finish it. I usually finish all of my cooked dish no matter how bad it is, so the fact that I couldn't eat these onion rings shows how bad it actually taste. Moral of the story: Think long and carefully before you cook. Don't be an idiot like me

I have never, unironically, seen someone here in my own country, at any state fair or even out in public eat Butter on a Stick. There was an entire stand dedicated to it, The line was shorter than than a suicidal person’s will to live. Literally the person at the stand was sitting back, in a chair, on his laptop, watching some show on Netflix or Hulu or something Next day, they changed the menu so it wouldn’t only be that gluttonous, fatty, carb loaded monstrosity they called “food” on the menu.

Every Summer, the local fair comes to my hometown and brings along Carnival rides, play areas where you can win plushies and food stands. Without a doubt, every year there's a bright neon yellow food stand called "Fred's Fries", where you can get literally anything fried. There's French fries (obviously), fried fruit, fried Oreos, fried Cheesecake, triple fried whole potato and of course...fried butter. People in my hometown go CRAZY over Fred's Fries every year. I've seen people even bring their own bananas or apples for him to fry. I've lived in America my whole life, and I still don't get it. I tried Fred's fried cheesecake once and it was terrible, so I can't wrap my head around people willingly ordering fried food (besides French fries).
