This video includes opinions about composition, design and how I approached creating this oil painting. The subject is a river in Smoky Mountains in North Carolina. During the process I offer dialogue about my thoughts on composition and how I'm progressing. Time lapse captures most of the brushwork and palette knife strokes on this 18x24" canvas. Oil painting uses paints that include pigment and a binder, mostly linseed oil. Oil paints can be applied using a variety of brushes and palette knives. Drying time for oil paints can vary from 1 day to 1 week depending on the use of mediums and thickness of paint. Developing the composition of a painting is critical to success no matter what the medium; acrylics, watercolor, pastel or just drawing. When using photo references it becomes easy to just paint what is in the composed photo. Artists have the liberty to improve the composition through a variety of art techniques.
