Hey, Andrew, my mother used to watch your videos a lot, but she died from covid a year ago. She was working very hard trying to get better at drawing and painting. I have a lot of good memories of her watching your videos, thanks for inspiring her and keeping her company with your videos.

Another great video. Andrew, I don't know how you are able to do so much with your limited time: KZbin video demonstrations, Patreon demonstrations, your own paintings and commissions, podcasts, being a husband and dad. Are you able to ever have time to sleep? You are one amazing artist, teacher, and person. Thank you so much for all that you do.

Andy back in 1984 I won first prize ($1,200) for a painting of a bowl of eggs and a bottle of milk. I blocked in the eggs with a warm cream mix and then using an German (EFBE) airbrush I was able to set it to stipple the paint altering the stipple sizes by changing the air pressure (Pinching the feed hose) I then made a very then glaze for the shadows using Acrylic binder (No retarder, instead using Isopropyl alcohol to accelerate the drying, so the drops held their shapes.

Andrew, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I have done a couple of still life paintings and can completely concur with how challenging they can be. One of them included sliced oranges, limes, and a clear glass vase with a flower and distorted reflections of stems in the water. When I'd put the paint down, I thought it looked ridiculous but I had to keep telling myself to just paint what I see in the reference no matter how ridiculous it seemed and, to my extreme joy - and self-doubt - it turn out beautifully. I mistakenly thought it would be an easy painting but to my surprise, it challenged me well beyond any other piece I'd created. But, I m so very glad I pushed through it because it was a huge learning process and I grew immensely in my creative journey. I'm so happy to see you back! Family always comes first and I'm so happy that you are taking the time to be a dad to your son. Thank you for being the amazing teacher you are.

Hi Andrew, thank you very much. Great job, and the commissioned painting you showed is excellent! I love landscape paintings ! - You are not only an outstanding painter, but also one of the best teachers. What I also find pleasing is that you are exceedingly welcoming to your viewers and it is obvious that you mean it. I know I'm not the only one who has missed you here, but there are things that go on, and one has to understand that. - Thanks again, and have a pleasant weekend with your family. 👋🧡

This is crazy - I tell my own students the exact same things you are here Andrew. I teach drawing to people ages 7 and 8, all the way up adult. I don't use eggs, but I do use styrofoam spheres and various sizes of fruit (pears and grapes, lemons), and try to stick to photos for virtual lessons. Anyway, I agree 100%, it's all about value/tonal control. In observing how the light and shadows are created, and searching out the dark and light masses, the reflected light, etc., my goal is to get the students to "turn the form", in other words, turn the two-dimensional flat working surface into a three-dimensional space. It sounds like a simple idea, but it is one of the most challenging of exercises. And yes, you are correct, it can be applied to still life, landscape, life drawing, portraiture, anything you can think of. Great video!!!
