I can feel your excitement swatching oil painting pigments and am so happy that you stay true to your ‘color preferences’ like your watercolor palette. Also, your treasured oil pastels have a nice place here! Thank you for sharing and widening our community this way!

I use both the R&F and the Sennelier sticks. These are the best in my opinion, and I think both have their uses, pros and cons. The R&Fs are beautiful, but take forever to dry. They can be gone through pretty rapidly though because they are so soft, especially if you do a whole painting with them. The Senneliers are a lot harder, dry faster, and for me tend to last a bit longer because of their hardness. Yes you do lose a bit more with them with the skin peeling thing, but if you use an x-acto blade, it’s not so bad. Also if you’re into the multiple transparent layers thing, you might want to look into cold wax painting. It might be something you’d like. I’m interested in trying those resin paints and have been meaning to get to them for some time. What do you think of them so far? I have quite a few of the Charvin acrylics (not the oils) because I loved the colors- and I like them, but do feel they are over priced because very few of them are single pigment. I suspect the same is true for the oils. Anyway- love your channel!

I absolutely love this palette you curated! Arches makes a special paper just for oils, and it’s just as beautiful as watercolor paper- I’ll never use canvas again after discovering it. Also you won’t ever need turpentine for your brushes, it will ruin them- use walnut oil to remove the paint and then use “The Masters Brush Cleaner and Preserver” it’s just a nice brush soap and conditioner. Hopefully those tips will make the oil painting process more enjoyable 💖

Thankyou for these tips! I will absolutely try to find this Arches oil paper, it sounds wonderful! & I’ll definitely try the Walnut Oil! I’ve been thinking about getting these out recently & those things should definitely help! Thanks again!

What fun! I love the Charvin tube aesthetic! Excellent marketing! ☺️ I’m so sensitive to chemicals that my experience with oils is limited to loving the rainbow of soft colors in the large Sennelier oil sticks, choosing a few, once home sketching and blending them until my head was spinning. They’ve been in a box for years now awaiting another go... I’ll enjoy watching you play with yours! I’m looking forward to this! Enjoy! PS I will say, I’m taking a JO class, Flower Parade, with watercolor and acrylics. I love watching her paint with acrylics! The thick creamy paint that layers and layers with lighter colors on top is so different than watercolor but so delicious to watch a rose appear! (I may have to invest...) Your oils will be a delight! PSS 😉 love Isaro Eternal Summit!

I know what you mean! I’ve steered clear for the same reason! I will have to look up the class I haven’t heard of it.. . it’s such a different way to paint isn’t it! Eep I’m so glad you have & like Eternal Summit! 🤗✨🌸🎨🌷 {by the way can we expect some videos soon 😉💌}

I admire your wanting to explore so many different arts and hobbies! You have such an aesthetic taste in every thing you do! Watercolor and oil painting are really two different worlds! For me all I learned in oil painting was from a fine arts school, method based on the Great Masters. We mostly use synthetic brushes (like W. & N. Artisan) and hog bristles brushes for more thickness. And always near us is a stainless steel airtight (available everywhere) brush cleaner with odorless Taltine in it. Never let the paint dry on your brushes. Feel free to ask if you have any questions! Love as always💕

It sounds beautiful! I will definitely check out those brushes & brush cleaner! Thankyou So! Hugs 🤗✨🌸🎨🌷💕
@carolem91123 жыл бұрын
I must also mention that when you’ve finished painting and cleaning with Taltine, we also clean them with Palmolive dishsoap to remove the staining paint. Since the container has a lid you let the Taltine in it (about half inch above the grill) and you can refill when necessary. My first language is’nt english so I hope I’m clear enough!!!🎨💕

I have the Escoda Versatil brushes and only use them with my watercolours. They are way too soft (and too expensive) for oils. I would recommend Jackson's Akoya brushes for oils. They are very affordable.
@RamoArt3 жыл бұрын
Would Versatil brushes even hold up to solvents since it's a synthetic Sable imitation? I do use some flat ones with watermixable oils and absolutely love them for that purpose.
@eaupoetique3 жыл бұрын
I think for those very thinned down layers they would, but I’ll definitely be looking for some larger sturdier brushes.. . & these water mixable oils are very curious!

So beautiful and exciting! I got some of your watercolors Blicks was slso having a sale, I bought Pearlescent white and Fuschite primatek by Daniel smith, Interference Copper, and Holbein's shell pink and lots more. I need a coral peachy pink like the one you have that is hand made. Any Daniel Smith suggestions? I am just creating my own palette I have aboug 60 tube paints, Half are by M. Graham and half are Daniel Smith. I have tins to create season dpecigic palettes or other types i may want, but the big kne will be wholepans to fit my bigger brushes & for my good Kolinsky brushes so I dont need to use the point of the brush to get the paint onto them. What Masters palette were you talking about? Id love to know what pigments were used.

I started out in oils and have a large collection that I have been using now in my mixed media. You want to clean your brushes with Turpitude as it is less smelly than turpentine.

Beautiful palette!!💖 The Escoda versatil you've got there is said to be for watercolor, acrylics, and for oils. I've the size 10 rigger and it's nice + soft, although I'm not sure how it would do with pushing a viscous oil and paint around. Although I've only ever used mine with wc, so who knows! Oh and it is synthetic yes, said too mimick a kolinsky sable! Ps. Do you use a fixative on the Aqua Bronze once it's dried?
@eaupoetique3 жыл бұрын
yes I feel like maybe for very thin layers but I also need some larger brushes! I really liked the look of the Catalyst ones at Jerry’s if I remember correctly, they weren’t too expensive but I don’t know if they’re that good.. . it’s such a different experience to learning about watercolor! no I never use fixative, it seems to be fine! 🤗✨🌸🎨🌷💌

@@eaupoetique It really is a whole new world hey?! I did the same sorta thing. I'd been painting with acrylics mostly, and the odd time painting with oils, for the last decade or so. So yeah nothing about watercolor painting was familiar.. but I absolutely love it! Good on you for trying something completely new and unfamiliar!👏🏼✨ Yeah I always liked the look of the catalyst brushes and wedges, although I've yet to actually try them, but they look like they'd be really great at creating texture in both oils and acrylics. Sorta of the way you'd use a palette knife to do it, plus it'd be so much easier to clean!😅

😤😮💨 Your color choices are so beautiful and I love them and you’ve sold me on oil, but I’d probably get water mixable because I’m sensitive.
@eaupoetique Жыл бұрын
hehe I agree! I’m having a hard time using them for the smell, I am also quite sensitive but my sister sold me on them she loves oils.. . I will probably only ever do a few paintings with them, this is a long ongoing project, I don’t want to do it till I can set up a space outside because of the smell! have a gorgeous week!!! ⛲️💌

I'm curious what you plan on creating with this color palette because you got all kinds of color mixes. How do you plan on mixing dark values? Hell, I didn't even see a white!
@eaupoetique3 жыл бұрын
it’s a work in progress! I have my eye on two whites, actually 3, a transparent mussini one which is expensive, a charvin extra fine artists one, & a charvin cheaper range one I think it’s just fine, since I know I’ll go through a lot of it mixing.. . I’m still working through it! as for dark values, I’ll use the dark blues and browns a lot but probably a mussini Black? I haven’t gotten that far, it’s taking a while to collect everything.. . I’ll still paint similar things, Roses, flowers, but I would like to try some landscapes & portraits we’ll see how it goes! 🎨✨

@@eaupoetique Oh that makes sense! I must have misunderstood what you said because I thought this was everything you got to get into oils. Every artist has a different opinion, but I personally think black looks quite dead. Especially if you want to create lots of transparent layers with "glowing" colors, I think you'd be better off mixing "black" from transparent colors like phthalo blue, phthalo green, dioxazine purple, perylene green (which is considered a black pigment!) etc. I am also a watercolor artist that picked up oil painting. Do not underestimate the power of white!
@eaupoetique3 жыл бұрын
yes I didn’t have a black in my watercolor palette for years until I recently found I really love the velvety texture of Daniel Smith Black Tourmaline, {more about the texture than the “color”}.. . I usually use other darks to mix for watercolor like hematite or hematite violet etc so thanks for the suggestions! & I’ll remember that about white!

Try R&F blending medium with a dryer in it to help the oil sticks dry faster. Oil pastels on the other hand never fully dry.
