Nicky was always a people person, from her Mother's day card, to verbally slamming her parents at the Bat Mitzvah, to wanting to bail her friends out of jail. Her parents were the opposite: viewed her as an object they didn't want or conversely, an object to throw money at when real support was needed. I think her addiction to drugs & those failed theft attempts were her last chances to relate to them: chasing after objects like her parents did all their lives. But she wasn't materialistic like them. She had emotional needs that weren't taken care of and in her most desperate times, her mom couldn't even comfort her without being self-centered. Glad she got in jail and finally received that affection from Red/Morello. Changed her life for the better.

@iakdrawllim4127
@iakdrawllim4127 5 жыл бұрын
She didn’t wanna bail her friends out, she just wanted drug money, also notice in the second part when she’s talking with those men in the apartment, he says “maybe if we get enough money, we can bail ___ and ____ out of jail” and nicki says “let’s play it by ear” as in, wait until we get the money, and we’ll probably buy drugs with it. And also she doesn’t steal because she desires objects, she steals because she wants the money for drugs.
@Faith-zt6cf
@Faith-zt6cf 4 жыл бұрын
@@iakdrawllim4127 That makes sense. I thought she cared more about her friends at that point, but turns out her plan was to simply feed her drug addiction. I mentioned her stealing objects b/c the big money would give her drugs, which I think she was using to fill the emotional void left by her indifferent parents. There's a theory that drug users rely on substances as a sad replacement for human connection. That way they can experience instant pleasure (that is similar to the happiness another person can give you) without putting up with the messiness & disappointments of actual human relationships. Nicky got a lot of emotional neglect in her early life, so her adult dependency on drugs is understandable.

i mean u could say that about serial killers or rapists or anyone who makes bad choices, but it’s not the parents fault. many people have horrible childhoods and don’t become drug addicts, rapists, murderers, etc. ya her parents were cold and distant but they really weren’t that bad. i knew a girl in my eating disorder treatment center who her own dad used to rape her. like there’s people with it so much worse. plus once your an adult, your responsible for your own life. ur not a little kid like. go to therapy, meditate, work on yourself, change the pattern if your parents sucked. it’s a cop out to say “my parents sucked so i suck”

All those things didn't make her living situation any better. You can have all the riches in the world but none of that makes up for detached parents who don't give a damn about you.

that’s not how children work. they need love. they can’t see what you’re doing for them financially if you never give them emotional support. have you ever seen studies about this sort of thing? you put baby monkeys in a room with a “wire mom” who produces food, and a “soft mom” they can cuddle, they choose the soft one even if they technically need the food more.

Shaming her for how she felt about them. This is really interesting bc you dont think they're abusive but they make nikki feel like shit.

burned flowers they are emotionally abusive. They neglected her and made her feel like a byproduct of a bad divorce.

@@remyshotme102 But her mum had obvious emotional limitations. Nikki just wanted more. It's sad overall. Nikki was a force of nature and was never going to let her back in truly. (not blaming her but she WAS part of the problem of not moving forward). Where was Nikki even trying? It was always her mum who came to her.

burned flowers it is not the child’s responsibility. Nicky was abused, and you’re blaming someone who was abused.

oh plz lmao sack up. life’s tough get a helmet. a person can’t live ur entire life blaming their parents for everything like her 😂 total cop out. some mistakes are fine, but at a certain point it just becomes that your a shitty person with shitty life choices who never takes responsibility. i knew a girl who her dad used to rape her. and even she sacked up, took responsibility for her own life, got help, and is a wonderful girl

Interesting how other women around Nicki - Paloma, Pamela, and Red - were more motherly to Nicki than her own damn mother.
