I was watching the youtube classic "how to make thin hamster" and seeing this is last video is incredibly depressing for me. I'm not surprised since i know the typical lifespan of rodents, but i lost my dog this year so i'm still pretty bummed our little buddies can't live forever..

with my pets, i own a rabbit and used to have a hamster, but the previous owner of the rabbits was killing them, so i extended my rabbit's life and my hamster died of a tumor or something on his back but he had a long, and very active life. it hurts, but you can deal with it
The cage is too small, explains the gnawing and trying to escape. You should try to give it a bigger tank. 籠は狭いな…

But I mean have you ever seen a hamster not frolic around? You may not have the money for a big spacious cage, but that doesn't mean you can't take the hamster out and play with it all the time and let it run around in a hamster ball. Kind of like having your dog in a cage. You can train hamsters to use a litter box and you can let them roam about until either it or you are tired. But if possible a cage like Jenna Marbles had would be totally ideal. RIP lil hammies.

@@theflowerhead You can take hamsters out to play, but you still need a good sized cage. If you can't afford to have the right size cage, you can't afford to have the hamster. That doesn't mean you couldn't be a good, caring owner, but hamsters still need space. As a previous comment said, hamster balls aren't very safe either. Also, you need to keep a good eye on your hamster whenever it's out. You turn around for 1 second, it's gone.

@@theflowerhead if you dont have the money to care for an animal then dont get an animal. You can go to a petting zoo or volunteer in an animal shelter if you love animals and dont have the resources to give them a good life.
I dunno if you'll ever see this, but squirrels are a lil bit similar to hamsters and they live a really long time! Like as long as a healthy doggo. I'm pretty sure every type of squirrel lives pretty long. =) If somebody wants to have a hamster or rat for a pet I always think it's a good idea to have a little squirrel too, because it'll be with you for awhile and soften the blow, they're very loyal and snuggly. Only they are like hyper little hamsters and they like to wrestle your hands and groom the hair atop yo head. XD I've seen them get along with other rodents so it's quite possible. Thank you for your lovely hamster thinning videos.

If you ever get a new hamster, first, I'm not sure about your cage measurements, but they need at least 450 square inches (2 feet by 1 feet) as the bare minimum. They need 6 inches of bedding to burrow. You need a wheel of 8 inches or more, and a sand bath is good (Never use dust baths!). More hideouts and toys stimulate your hamster. Never use wood shavings. It's dangerous for your hamster and can cause respiratory problems. Paper bedding recommended. I can't see any water or food source, so just be aware hamsters need a water source, as they can't get water from food they eat. Make sure you give them safe and nutritional food like vegetables and timothy hay. Otherwise, I've seen your videos and you're a pretty good owner for the most part. I don't see any serious red flags, and your hamster seems happy!

The plastic toys and the plastic hamster wheel are dangerous and not healthy for your hamster and furthermore the cage is too small, he/she needs more space. If you want your hamster to have a nice and healthy life, you should buy a different cage (it should be big enough and it shouldn‘t be made out of plastic) and toys and a wheel which are made out of materials which aren‘t dangerous for your lovely hamster, for example specific wood.
