He's actually one of my favourite characters, even more than gojo. In shows like Naruto and dbz, if you have more strength than your opponent, it means you are stronger and will win. Also there seems to be an emphasis on the characters fighting fairly and facing the enemy head on which I think is really stupid tbh. However both Jjk and CSM completely turn this idea on its head. Toji who is basically just a human being with heightened physical abilities, can't even see curse energy literally "kills" gojo with just his tactics and strategy. The whole segment of him sneaking up and ambushing gojo is just genius. It just shows that having more strength doesn't necessarily mean being stronger. It's probably the only shounen since H×H to do so. Even in real life when we face a stronger enemy, we don't face then head on. We strategise and find the best plan to beat them.
@UnifiedEntity
@UnifiedEntity 2 жыл бұрын
@@swastikbarua110 DBZ literally has many instances where raw strength doesn't always mean victory. Same thing for Naruto. Tojis physical stats was high enough to where a weakened Gojo would be easier to deal with. But once Gojo recovered and had even new abilities, the gap was back to it's original form AND THEN some. Nothing Toji was doing or planning on doing was going to change the result. Hxh is like this too. You can have all the strategy in the world, but instances like Gon and Killua before knowing nen, didn't have a chance in HELL against Hisoka. The only "strategy" at that point is get stronger.

@@UnifiedEntity dbz has its moments but when it turned into a numbers thing it kinda got more difficult to stick with that, same with Naruto. I would argue too that the only threshold for Hxh (you mentioned Gon and Killua having to get stronger) but that was simply learning about Nen, After which winning and losing is determined by how you craft your ability and your strategy
@UnifiedEntity

@@nsikanndoh7680 Thats still false. Even when they learn nen, they werent taking on anyone in league of the spiders. Biggest example? Meruem against Netero. A man beyond his years and combat experience that you could make into a class out of was utterly helpless against Meruem. No power whats so ever to do any real damage. The only real contest was speed. You can put Meruem against Chrollo or Hisoka. Blitzed. Kurapika? Blitzed. The list goes on. Hell when it came to the royal guards in general....everyones strategy was just run away. The numbers thing in DBZ people took way to literally and people need to realize, the MINUTE Raditz came down with that shit, it was a tool to reveal that despite the power advantage he had, he let his guard down because Goku and Piccolo could manipulate their ki freely. Vegeta joined that wagon and used it to his advantage to surprise his enemies in and out of battle on Namek.

omg... as a writer this comment is so true. i always thought originality was the way to make a story good but now i learnt it's about execution even with the most common tropes and overused cliches, which is probably why jjk is a very good show because of how well those typical shonen tropes were executed in the story. im honestly tired of how some anime fans like to complain about jjk because it's too "generic, typical and mid" and using every trope in existance to vomit it out in the story. If these guys are expecting some sort of NGE or psycho-pass esque type of concepts from JJK then 1. That's why seinen anime exists and 2. Original does not equal good and these guys are probably seinen elitists who hate on the shonen genre. And these types of fans who complain ignore how well jjk was able to execute these generic shounen tropes, mold them into something better and add originality in them and there's nothing wrong with that. Now i often get very tired of shonen tropes and plots. I lean towards seinen anime these days because i know all of them by heart and i feel exhausted by it but jjk was able to pull it off while not making me feel dreaded and drawn to the show. now i know that even the most original, unique and interesting of ideas and concepts can turn out bad if there's no proper execution to it. This is mind blowing and i just learnt something new about storytelling and executing the concepts is something im so shit at in my writing.

The story of JJK currently is amazing. Multiple characters drive the narrative in an equal way. Its not the type of SJ manga that only has the MC driving the narrative in an overwhelming way. Yuji is the MC but at the same time he isnt, if that makes sense. The narrative isnt solely focused on him or needs him to move it forward. There is this group of certain characters that push it at an equal level. Maki, Yuuta, Yuji, Megumi and Gojo. Its like HxH. Its a refreshing way of writing your narrative imo.

I wouldn't say that the storytelling becomes good after season 1. It seems like this simply because at first we got the BUILDUP, all the basic needed stuff like introducing the world, the power system, both protagonists and villains and their main goals etc. Without this, the second season wouldn't even happen. The storytelling was great from the very beginning, we just needed to fill the shounen tropes checklist first. The fast pacing proves that the author wanted to go through predictable stuff like training arc, tournament arc etc as fast as possible, to reach the true goodies. And all of this is done in extremely professional and entertaining way and still manages to hit emotionally.

Jjk has so much to offer if you read deeply. On the surface it may appear as a normal shonen but I believe it's more than that. Like relationship with Gojo and Geto or Yuji's mindset and how it changes through time. Every character has a motive, a purpose. All of them have a story to tell. The storytelling is amazing and it just keeps getting better and better

3 points you made the panelling, cast being under developed, story not being anything to write about. I could give you a deep analysis on each one but I am going to answer plainly. 1: Panelling: Its a fast page turner , if you read the chapter again those paneling issues disappear. 2: cast being underdeveloped: JJK uses show not tell kind of story telling Gege is a genius writer when it comes to introducing character and their lore. I say he is a genius because multiple times he repeated the formula in the series and multiple times it keeps working. A character who is introduced has importance and relevance to plot then and there. Naoya introduction closer to the end of Shibuya was the last embodiment of everything maki needed to destroy. Higuruma in recent chapter helped Yuiji reafirm his will while at the same time learning about what was important to him. There are multiple instances where characters are very relevant to the story. The main cast of characters since they have been with us from the start will start growing as more and more characters are introduced. Not to mention Take a look at Yuiji growth from the start of the manga up until recent chapters his growth is brilliant and he isn't done yet because we still need answers. Essentially what I am trying to say is gege doesn't reveal information/ introduce for nothing. He does it to tell a short term story and create long term stakes. 3:story not being anything to write about: JJK story is not immediately in your face. Its in the fights, in the dialog, in the characters , how they carry themselves and go about their view points. JJK is a story about characters and their place in a world of sorcery. Not a world of Sorcery with cool characters. that's why I say Gege sensei is a genius. He created a world to play in but the beauty of it all lies in how the characters are at odds with how the world ought to be and that is brilliant writing.
@NitsuaVids
@NitsuaVids 2 жыл бұрын
This is my point of view. I'm not trying to argue against you, I just think it's an interesting discussion to have. 1: I would say that the paneling is the one that I still think needs improvement. It's fine and perfectly readable, but it doesn't have the same flow as manga like Dragon Ball and Chainsaw Man do. 2: I wouldn't necessarily still say underdeveloped, rather I would say not super deep. But they don't need to be. Each character serves their purpose in the story exactly how they need to and gets the proper development to be able to do that. Yeah they aren't as deeply layered as like Guts and Griffith from Berserk, but they don't need to be in order to make them good characters. I would still say that pretty much all of the characters are amazing and super fun to watch. It's just that I didn't want people to set their expectations too high for the characters. 3: I agree on how the story is immediately in your face. JJK tells it's story through it's fights and it's about people living in a world with sorcery. The story is fantastic, but to me it doesn't go above and beyond what it needs to. Most of JJK's story is, like you said, told through the characters and their conflicting viewpoints on society. This means that the story can just consist of the good guys going to stop the bad guys, or a tournament arc like the culling games because it's the characters that make these conflicts interesting. (yes I know there is much more to the story than just this) JJK's story does everything it needs to, but to me the actual plot isn't anything we haven't seen before. It's a typical battle Shonen plot, executed to near- perfection. Sorry this comment wasn't well written, I'm tired rn. Thanks for watching the vid, and have a great day! :)

I was really locked in with Toji at first. I have watched battle shonen for so many years and have always been frustrated by things like, "Why would the person just walk in with no preparation, when they know the person is so powerful?" or "You hit him once, why didn't you just keep hitting him, instead of giving him time to get back up?" Toji's brutal attack on Gojo, only giving him enough time to get freaked out that nothing he could do was stopping him really was fantastic. When he stabbed Gojo finally and then just kept hitting him, it felt like a real battle, instead of people taking turns to talk a little and then exchange blows. It did not stop there.

why do shonen "fans" hate shonen tropes so much? what is the REAL point of trying to reinvent the wheel?
@fukunaga-kane
@fukunaga-kane 10 ай бұрын
Because Shounen watchers are adults now. Shounen tropes such as explaining your abilities in the middle of a battle are too apparent/noticeable now that you're older. People don't want the authors to "reinvent the wheel," but they do want something mature to emerge out of shounen. Chainsaw Man for example; with the introduction of the four horsemen, it has become a battle of concepts. Power scaling is more vague (since it isn't a battle shounen) and easy to follow, and you can focus more on the characters' motivation rather than wasting your time and energy trying to figure out the power scaling. This sort of narrative is far more enjoyable to read for an adult. And Gun Devil, a devil that brings apocalyptic / Neon Genesis Evangelion-level threat, is so bloody fun to read as an adult because you understand the sheer impact of catastrophe can bring in the real world.
@Petrslav
@Petrslav 7 ай бұрын
I feel like you're not as aware of the Shonen tropes when you're a kid, but now, as an adult, it's predictable and tired. I didn't watch my hero when it came out, but a bunch of my friends did. Last year I tried to get into it, but it's annoying. It's tropey, and tropes can get annoying and distracting when you're aware of them. I love the lord of the rings, but seeing those ideas recycled into different fantasy media constantly gets boring, even when the ideas were great when Tolkien introduced them.
@tmakster7748
@tmakster7748 Ай бұрын
@@PetrslavHaving troupes doesn't automatically mean it's bad. It's the execution. EVERY fictional series has the same troupes but they do it differently. Like with MHA. It doesn't have the traditional shonen troupes like dumb MC who's oblivious, greedy and battle hungry but Instead have a mc whos nerdy, smart, and aware of what's going on. They also didn't have the rival going evil for power

There’s still so much we haven’t seen yet so why would that be a bad thing. If the story was at its end sure but it’s not. A story also doesn’t have to be intricate for it to be good. It has a simple plot and that’s fine. It doesn’t have to be lotr level for it to be a good story

JJk is very basic plot but it’s execution is what keeps me in. I like that although Yuji is the main character we still focus on other main characters like Gojo and Yuta. It’s also Engaging to see Yujis inner demon isn’t going to help him like other shounen MCs. I like that curses are curses and not seen as misunderstood. Sukana being the king of curses should of course be the most evil and vile. Which plays into making Yujis life worst. Seeing him go from this ball of sunshine dealing with the devil is an interesting plot.

I thought Inumaki's curse speech is inherited but how can Yuuta copy it? Oh and dont get me started on the lack of details for Gojo's six eyes. @@lildoeflamingo984 So let's assume the other six eyes user also has a sure hit domain like Satoru. In a domain face-off the more "polished" one wins. The domain that's crafted better with more understanding of cursed energy will outright win and take over the space they're fighting in. Let's say Satoru's domain is the more polished one, that means that his technique would hit ( aka the opponent would get stunned like Jogo) and vice versa. That's scenario number 1. If their domains were to be equal that would either result in them completely canceling out and the fight would continue normally or both domains will be created but their sure hit techniques wouldn't work. This would then also result in a normal fight. Just forget about their infinity not working now that i think about it it doesn't make sense.
