How do you find the whole built in battery vs non built in trend, seems like a deal breaker to many.
@christianfox740411 ай бұрын
Mixed feelings about the trend but it is not a deal breaker. On the one hand, generally we are accustomed to changing out batteries. On the other hand, lithium batteries (depending on its chemistry) last quite a long time and honestly for the price point of this EDC and the options it provides, not a bad deal. You will always have the die-hards that will want to change out the battery and we'll stay away from this EDC. I understand the rationale. However, also understand having the battery built in, not accessible. It'll have better connectivity and probably better water resistance. Nothing lasts forever so I don't mind the concept of a built-in battery, recycle it when it is defunct. The fact of the matter is, if one wants a built-in battery, then purchase a flashlight that has one, no problem. If one wants to try out something new, give this a shot. Just my two cents.
@grinsefalle11 ай бұрын
@@NitecoreSG The built in battery something to consider. The flashlight itself seem quite decent regarding UI and output, the battery is mixed bag. If the battery fails or if the charging port malfunctions, there is no way to use it in this particular situation, you need a backup light. And you can't use the flashlight with a second battery, while the first on is charging.. So it depends on your usage of this flashlight - and i can understand both sides of the deal-breaker-question..

We all know built in batteries will not last forever, if I drop the light or break it myself that’s one thing, but buying somthing you know you will have to buy again after the battery stops holding a decent charge is kind of a deal breaker. The issue with lithium ion batteries is similar to how they say your supposed to run your ohone battery down and not just keep it at 100% all the time bc that is worse for the battery. With edc gear you need these things at 100 percent that’s the whole point is to be prepared. Removable batteries you can swap in and out. For me, im okay with owning many flashlights but I need to know the power source will work when I need it to. Im fine with buying batteries, 18650’s, 18350’s, 21700’s whatever. Think of it this way, if 500 of us purchased the same light with a built in non removable battery, 5 years from now we can all throw em away together, regardless of price point.

@@danielc.1169 I think that those colors are nice to choose from and have, but for most situations a somewhat (boring looking) black flashlight, with the right specs and UI, will be all you need. Pretty crazy numbers for such a small light. Its not like you can buy a cell that can do that right now anyway. I havent tried the tailswitch yet but the olight warrior models had a similar implementation and ive been a huge fan of the concept. Makes a tactical light still super easy to use. You do not have both beam, its kinda gimmick, I have the 33. You can only use flood in 1300 or higher lumens, that is when you dont want it and you cannot have flood only, with no hotspot. Like inside a house, or reading, or inside a car, you want a low lumens flood, but NO, nitecore locked the flood in just high and turbo. So all situations you benefit from a spread low light, you cannot benefit. Low - no flood, ultra low - no flood, mid - no flood, high - flood but it gets really hot and dims, turbo too. So nitecore puts flood only where the light cannot handle it properly. Kinda gimmick, its a spot flashlight with some auxiliary flood leds, YOU CANNOT HAVE ONLY FLOOD, OR LOW FLOOD

I love how short this EDC 33 only at 4.5 inches long and 100+ grams which can easily be strapped to my bike to act as bike light (The flooding is great as well as the ribbings on its body for the rubber straps to secure them). I can then remove the flashlight and use it as EDC flashlight to explore the wilderness as well as protection with the Lumin Shield if there are robbers who might want to mug me. I hope this model becomes available soon here in the Philippines.

Hey guys, I own the EDC33 and have used it for about 1 month, lots to like, but I have some big concerns. 1. HEAT: The EDC33 gets very hot, like untouchable hot after using the "special modes" for a few seconds. In the manual nitecore warns the user: "DO NOT expose the product to temperatures above 60°C (140°F) for prolonged time, as this poses risk of battery explosion or combustion*".* So the fact that this light gets so hot on its own worries me. The lumin-shield 4K mode really gets the light very hot fast, and the light steps down to the lowest output after around 20 seconds, not very tactical? In my own opinion it is a disaster waiting to happen, only short accidental periods of "spot-light" (which is only a half-press!) will burn a hole in your pocket quickly and burn your skin too. To combat this issue nitecore made the physical lock-out switch, which is my next point... 2. LOCK-OUT SWITCH: In my opinion this was absolutely necessary, the light gets so hot it would be completely irresponsible to not have a lock-out option on this light. My problem with it is just that - it is completely necessary - I am afraid of that one time, which I know will come, when I forget to lock the light out before I put it in my pocket. Also - I find the half-lock out mode ridiculous - as it only locks out the daily modes and not the special modes, but it is the special modes that I am afraid will accidentally turn on. That said - it is a very nicely made lock, fidgety too. 3. SENSOR: The sensor only works on high mode, not searchlight or lumin-shield, only high. Why add a sensor for only 1 of 6 modes? Also the sensor is extremely sensitive for smudges or dirt on the glass. The first time used my EDC33 I though it was something wrong with the UI, but then I cleaned the glass and the problem was solved. After that I have noticed that if I just barely tough the glass with my finger it will be enough to dim the high-mode when I turn the light on. It seems to me that the sensor is a safety-feature that looks good on paper, but in reality doesn't do much for the users protection. For my final thoughts I would like to mention that I think what nitecore does is incredible, my favourite lights comes from this company and I think nitecore alone is really pushing the development of flashlights into the future, the NiteLab UHi 20 MAX LED is an incredible concept that deserves more appreciation. I view this flashlight like a show-off piece from nitecore, a light to showcase their new technology which will hopefully soon be perfected and more practical. I cannot wait for what nitecore does next. Making their own LEDs is so huge!

Instead of a mixed beam in normal operation mode, I'm actually hoping for dual beam patterns in normals operation modes with different power settings, like low, med and high for spot and flood beam patterns respectively. I think that would be a perfect edc light, something like a switch like the lock out switch to flip from spot to beam. Sometimes l'd like a pure flood / spot depending on the situation, not necessarily at 4000 lumens.

I worked in maintenance and I always carry 2 things 2 types of multitool or small tools and a flashlight. Now I carry nitecore SRT7i because of its versatility. But some of my peers find the UI clumbersome and the size of the torch is so big. Multitools can be handy for a quick fix. But to pair that wiith a much better flashlight its like again a swiss knife. If closeup I dont need the spotlight. The big problem with spotlight is that even with the SRT7i ring the hotspot is so bright your eyes gets tired and painful because of the hotspot. I also own the P20iX and P10iX. Tried to experiment but sometimes you need both spot and flood for certain applications. With this small and compact plus one button operation its not clumbersome. No more carrying headlamp + Floodlight + standalone flashlight like the SRT7i. Its pocket friendly and easy to carry. Paired with a multitool small jobs cannot be as easier done. Floodlight is for closeup and spot is for far away lighting. It can increase my productivity because easy fixes dont need large bulky tools.

Urban exploring - we always need a high quality flashlight to see clearly, and a good bright one can be used to illuminate scenes for photography in abandonded buildings or underground tunnels.

Great light, some awesome unique features just wish the modes were flipped. The main brightness levels should be with the floodlight and the spotlight only comes on the brightest level as a spotlight or with the floodlight for that Lumin Shield

Thank you for the great and in-depth review. I have a couple of questions, is the battery replacable/removable or in-built? also how long can you blast on full power before it overheats? Thanks
@Gohjunyi8811 ай бұрын
MH12 Pro seems better imo, having a replacable batteries. The flood mode not quite pratical given it overheats and burns the battery quickly
@mikeenslin300911 ай бұрын
i dont know... its a lot brighter than the mh12 pro and its also a different usecase... Depends what youre looking for i suppose. Edc33 is a lot more tactical and innovative id say. I understand the replaceable battery is important, thats a valid point for sure. I wouldnt really have a use for a mh12 or mh25 but the edc33 i could actually see myself using given the user interface and size and beam shape
@nitenichiryu569611 ай бұрын
I agree. The built-in battery is quite a deal breaker in my book. Plus, having strong output in such a mini body means this light will be prone to overheating at its highest. With that said, I still might buy it.

How long does turbo last?
@ynotjf11 ай бұрын
YES! HOW LONG DOES TURBO LAST?? I’ve got an Olight Warrior 3S that only holds 2300 turbo for a mere 2.5min? Then if you need turbo a second time it will only last 1 minute then the battery has to be topped-off before it will enter turbo again.. absolute BS!
@NitecoreSG11 ай бұрын
7-9 seconds or so before it gets too hot and steps down.
@ynotjf11 ай бұрын
@@NitecoreSG - So if Nitecore was honest, they’d say it’s a 1200lm light with temporary burst to 4000lm, not market it as 4000lm! 1200lm is not bad for that small of a light but “Perfect” really? I’ve been carrying a Eagtac D25LC2 Tactical for 10 years that has 1374 lumens then steps down to 1100 for 1.5hours that’s just as small as the EDC 33. How about the new Olight Warrior Mini 3 at 1750lm turbo for 2min but with multiple turbo cycles. Maybe Perfect is just a marketing word..

I just got mine..to be honest I think Nightcore needs to rethink its goals. Is it one of the brightest flashlights in its size? Absolutely. But it reaches OBSCENE temperatures in less than 20 seconds. This light is an accident waiting to happen.

This give the Olight Baton 3 Pro Max and Acebeam E70 Mini a run for their money though they do have some things unique to them as well, the Baton 3 Pro Max has the magnetic tail and the E70 Mini has a choice for high CRI LEDs.
@rayoflight6210 ай бұрын
I just got an EDC33. It is a dream of a light, the three-stage tailcap is very well thought, thank you. I want to tell you two problems I'm having with the EDC33. When I'm at level 3 and I want to go to a lower brightness to avoid being noticed, I have to cycle and go to the highest brightness before getting to a lower brightness. This give away my position. The same happens with my MH25 Pro. I bought a SRT7i so I can use the ring to go low without going high first, but it would be nice if the MH25 would have a side rocker switch; so I can increase OR decrease the brightness, without the one-way up-only system you have now. Second problem: the lanyard of the EDC33 is not made of true paracord, but of some cheap stiff nylon - the knot undo by itself. Thank you Nitecore! Greetings from the UK, Anthony
