This plays in a scene where all the characters you've met in the game are praying that Amaterasu will succeed in defeating the evil taking over Japan. You've slowly made the people believe in the gods again along your journey by saving them, helping them in their daily lives, and bringing nature back. Now the people save Amaterasu and the other gods in turn with their prayers and give them the strength to defeat Yami.

It's a really beautiful and powerful scene, at least my sister and I think because we freaking cry every time we see it. Just seeing the name of this song got me teary. The credits version definitely get the feelings going too, because it's coupled with Ammy walking with Issun through the journey again.

Okami's name is actually a japanese pun! Okami could refer to 'great god', but also has the same pronunciation as 'wolf'! That's the whole reason the game has a wolf for a main character 😹
@tamashii6670
@tamashii6670 2 жыл бұрын
Not exactly like you said. That main character is shinto Sun goddess Amaterasu, she can has wolf form. That's why title is "Ōkami", because it's one of most important shindo gods.

Okami just has such beautiful music, a beautiful artstyle and an interesting spin on Japanese mythology. Even the game mechanic is fairly unique, so I'm very happy to see you finally getting to know a bit about the game ♥ Fun fact because you mentioned it: There is a song called "Giving Kushinada a ride" where a NPC rides on Amaterasu's (the wolf's) back which might or might not be one of my favorite tracks on this OST - so, it might come your way at some point :D

*It feels like I'm riding on this character's back... just running. It just feels like a big journey. There really is someone riding on her back for most of the journey. MvC3 has him speak for her quotes.

funny you mention nature. Big theme of the game is Amaterasu's strong connection to nature. Flowers, grass, leaves, ect. literally spawn as she walks, and one of her powers lets you just turn dead patches of land into flower fields

Thank you for reaction. The best way to describe Okami without spoilers is that it's a ps2 platforming adventure that plays somewhat similarly to Ocarina of Time. Except the entire aesthetic of the game is designed to make you feel like you're running around in a traditional Japanese painting. It literally feels like the 3d world that exists within a 2d painting. And its jaw droppingly gorgeous! (especially the HD remaster) There's no other game that looks or feels anything like it. It's kinda hard to describe. The painting aspect isn't just an aesthetic but a major game mechanic as well. For you also have to paint your way through the game. You have to paint the sun in the sky to make it rise, paint bombs to blow up obstacles and enemies, and the stroke of your brush acts like a stroke of the sword. The flaming wolf that you play as does have its own combat abilities beyond all that also. So you can fight enemies using simple combos too. If you feel comfortable with it I'd highly suggest maybe checking out some screenshots or short game play videos of the HD remaster just to get a feel of it. It'll blow your mind.

So okami really leans into the traditional japanese aesthetic, so you get a lot of traditional jpn stuff along with some western brass. Japanese flute and koto (string in the zither family) are two of the most used, though woodblock is also part of it. There was western harp in too. Soken did some wagakki (rock with integrated japanese instruments) for the stormblood bosses, so looking up Suzaku or Byakko would give you another example. Best effect is the full fight of three songs, so answer on high into either amatsu kaze for male singer rock, or sunrise for female singer pop-punk

Gosh, it's been a while since I played Okami and forgot how beautiful this song is. The main character is the wolf, Amaterasu, who is the japanese goddess of he sun, who after a hundred years of rest has to purge darkness from a land that has stopped believing in gods and her helping all the people she meets makes them believe again. This song plays why everyone prays for her success and powers her up during the final battle. There's also a version with lyrics called just "Reset", that plays during the credits. My favorite songs from this OST are The Sun Rises and Twin Demons Lechku and Nechku. Unfortunately, the original studio went under (Clover Studios), but it was reborn as Platinum Games, which makes games such as Nier Automata and Bayonetta.

What a great pick. Okami being arguably one of the best critically reviewed and also player received games .... ever. Top 10 of all time and beaten only by San Andreas and RE4. The whole soundtrack backs it up. This takes me back to the mid-00's.

Good to know Im not the only one who cries to this. This was the first video game to genuinely make me cry mid game. Ive had some where ive teared up a little but I hadnt played a lot of jrpgs (yknow how they always get you) and this was the first game to hit me in the GUT with the scene this is used for. Then it started all over again with the end credits. Aaaaah... 😭

Okami is one of my favorite games but funnily enough I haven't really thought much about the music on its own. To me, the music just immerses me in the game so much that it just becomes a part of the game and setting. This really makes me want a new Okami game that keeps its unique artstyle but taking advantage of the power of modern hardware.

Okami's soundtrack is what introduced me to the Yoshida Brothers and their amazing shamisen playing, as well as the Wadaiko Yamato ensemble of drummers. This game holds an interesting, albeit unfortunate merit: It's considered to be one of the most critically acclaimed games of its year that also sold extremely poorly, to the point where the studio behind it closed its doors sometime later after its release.

Okami is my 2nd favorite game of all time behind Kingdom Hearts 2. I'm so glad my favorite piece of music from it resonated with you even never having heard of the game before. It's basically Japanese wolf Zelda and it was made by the precursor of Platinum Games which was Clover Studio. And so, it makes sense that it's a pretty sick action game too!

My personal favourite tracks are, theme of the celestials, kushi's ride, shinshu field, north ryoshima coast, oki's theme, brave warrior oki, Okami shiranui and Wep'keer. You have to react to Okami shiranui, it has to be the most beautiful track in any game ever. All the boss tracks are great too.

oh yeah, okami will be a rapid request from now on then for sure, this is not the last you'll hear of ol' Ammy's fantastic soundtrack. you likely saw the wolf god Ammeterasu in Marvel vs Capcom. she did have a place there i believe arguably one of the best games of the Ps2 era. more for it's atmosphere and feel, than the music itself. there are dozens of super memorable atmospheric woodwind songs (the famous cherry blossom storm), many of them not pleasant to listen to when it comes to boss music, most are very erratic and noisy drums (Ushiwaka's Dance), but they leave an impression for sure.
